Manned exploration is inspiring however money would be better spent in furthering the development of nano-tubes for the much desired space-elevator and/or reviving the HARP/Martlet project with a new 'barbados-gun' situated in europe.
@trixapete Because to give up is worse than to be ignored. Good people have to keep trying, even if the prospects appear hopeless because you never know what is over the next hill.
@trixapete November is the next hill of us here in the States, both congressional and the white house. I hope I can take my country back, and you yours, because the alternatives are scary as hell.
The EU just approved a plan to have the European flag to be flown at every major sporting event across Europe. Players will be required to wear the flag on their outfit as well.
The exploration of our universe should be for all the human species, not for some pro eu idiot to use as propaganda, first thing we should do is send tony blair to mercury.

My goodness, I am getting a bit tired of this man. Please, stop with the pathos and come up with alternative strategies that are connected to 'here and now'. I.e. show some pragmatism and flexibility. Hannan seems to be more interested in showing of his literary skills to a limited internet audience as opposed to engaging with real world solutions. Politics must be one of the few 'professions' where one can get by on mere rhetoric. He is exactly what he purports to despise.
@Krifko I completely disagree! He has such a way of showing the logical fallacies of the rest of the EP. Great logical minds like Hannan are just as necessary as those engineers, philosophers, thinkers that come up with "on the ground" solutions!
@Krifko His solution is simple yet brilliantly effective. Break up the Euro, scrap the CAP, end the CFP, remove all of the subsidies to failing industries, end the undemocratic nightmare of the commission, give us a constitution we can read, scale back the invasive EU legislation and rebuild an EU based on a common, free, market. The EU should be preventing protectionism rather than conducting it, encouraging competition rather than stifling it, supporting democracy rather than replacing it.
Although I support Daniel Hannan in most of the things he says. Even to a small extent his unpopular opinions on the NHS. I have to voice my complete contempt for what he says here, and his anger towards space exploration and curiosity driven science. Sure make them cut their spending on bailouts and the eurocracy in general. But not the spending on the desire to push forward the entire boundaries of mankind, just because it's an inconvenient time.
@GuitarCarbon He's not criticising space exploration: he's criticising the EU for USING it "as a virility symbol". In other words, he thinks they are politicizing what should be a purely scientific endeavour, and at the expense of what politicians SHOULD be doing, namely increasing liberty, and thereby all kinds of free enterprise, leading to prosperity.
It's also a good way to hide money. I don't object to exploring space but I can't get the idea of how easy a program it is for all involved that it is also a good avenue to hide where the money goes. Like you said the Ballot box floating up there in space. How would the ordinary person down here looking up confirm any proper funds usage. I have lost all trust in those who have so much power. I didn't hold to much to begin with but over the past decade it's all gone.

@SamusVSMC
You are of course correct.
Reminds me of the quote - "all that has to happen for evil to prevail is for good men to do nothing".
More applicable to the islamification of Britain than in this context however.

Maybe we could just launch all the EU apparatchiks into space, that way we don't have to deal with them anymore...
