THANK GOD, THANK JESUS, THANK VANDEN PLAS,,,for letting me find this! finally something I can listen too, over and over and over!! and thanks to TTM Guitars for making it happen for me! Peace,,,JDL ex-rockstar@san.rr.com
@Geshien please forgive my manners! my mother raised me better than this! OF COURSE!!! a special THANKS to whom I would have never been able to see this band UP CLOSE and INPERSON like I was at this concert, goes out to "GESHIEN!!!" your vids have just blown me away,,and I want to THANK YOU so very much for this. God Bless Geshien, you my man,,ROCK!!! best regards, peace, Johnny D, from the band TSUNAMI.
Look people, I personally know many bands, they all would like to make money, but making music is more important. Its their calling....its their art form. Its also in their souls. Being around them, its almost scary. As far as compare with this and DT: there is no compare. Both ARE different, both are good. You guys need to check out my music channel, and on sample list: hear: Seventh Wonder, Edenbridge, and Leaves Eyes.We need to support these bands, and not be divisive. They work hard for us.
One of the reasons I would prefer Vanden Plas over DT is the fact that due the massive exposure the media lends these band forth can easily lead them to greed adn eventualy loose their touch.I'm especially talking about those groups signed on major labels.I think VP is still free from any kind of influence.
I know I missed a whole DT conversation and I dare not intude. I love DT but the two bands are quite differnt. Progressive yes, but very differnt sound overall. No comparisson needs to be made.
Exactly. Dream Theater influenced these guys hugely. They're both amazing - Dream Theater for being the leading lights, and these guys for maintaining the high standard of progressive metal that we can all enjoy.
DT influences everyone and the comparisons are always going to follow. Personally I'm sick of hearing it. Due greatly because I've never cared too much for DT. Respect them for sure. Their EP, "The Change of Seasons" was great but, they generally bore me and I'm a bit tired of hearing about how great DT is on other band discussions. It's annoying.
I guess it must be, but don't take that out too much on the band. I like DT mainly for their ability to go in any musical direction, and maintain a formidable and distinct sound. Good talking to you!
I don't have any vice towards DT. No one can take away what they've done for prog. My issue falls with every fellow that decides to take time out of their day to pay dues to DT when talking about another prog metal band and unintentionally undermine said prog metal band. I'd just prefer that comparisons to DT were left out of conversations as these, no matter the person's stance on DT. If nothing else because it occurs all too often.
No, I can perfectly understand how annoying that must be. If I'm honest, I think the majority of DT fans are idiots, and have no clue what they're talking about. A shame, really.
With prog metal I've always felt that there's a fashionable trend that makes people praise DT without hesitation and as such I feel they are being dishonest to others and themselves. Technicality does not solely make a band "the best".
Imo, DT are one of if not, the most talented group of musicians that have graced the stage. However, they force too much into their music. Trying to incorporate every bit of music they create into a song, thus, losing flow and ultimately feeling.
That's an interesting perspective. It makes sense. For me, it's the vivid imagery that their music provides that I enjoy. The constant change of colour, tone and emotion. And the elaboracy weaves simplicity in amongst complexity, I feel. That's the beauty of it for me.
I hate it as well. Even a band like Porcupine Tree gets compared to DT, and they're nothing alike. It's just because they've been tagged progressive metal.
It's not like every metal band gets compared to Black Sabbath, so I don't see why the prog genre has to be any different
Dream Theater is by far my favorite band, but by no means the only prog band I like.
They're so different from most Prog bands, I think the reason they come up so often is their relatively large fanbase (in the world of prog) and the high quality/standards that their technical talent sets.
Vanden Plas is amazing, and no mention of DT needs to be made in relation to them.
he best prog metal band ever.on my opinion they are much better than dream theater.less tecnic more metal, more power melody.their best album is the god thing \m/ [2]
I from brasil!!!! i love this band!!!! ela impata com Symphony x..

finally bought christo the other day and boy was i extremely happy. these guys just ooze quality progressive metal in ever aspect. after each listen to the album this song has stood out for me, the keyboard solo at the end is godly. love it
i have their entire discography and it's all very good. their last four albums in particular; "The God Thing," "Far Off Grace," "Beyond Daylight," and "Christ 0" are excellent.
you should check out their website. just google search "Vanden Plas."
they even have a myspace.
they kick ass but, they don't get the recognition they so rightly deserve but, that's just how it is, sometimes. at least finding great music can be very gratifying.
I stumbled upon this band after buying a cd from InsideOut music (they put catalogs with the cds) and made a note about a band called 'Vanden Plas', then came across them in a store. I had a listen and found a new favorite band. Bought Christ 0 and The God Thing (remastered 2004 release) and love them! Silently is one of my favorite songs.
Guys lemme tel you... my Music teacher was a manager of them (:

I love this damn song!

Oh, it'll happen in pretty much every comment section that's related to prog. Even Porcupine Tree get compared to them, and they're NOTHING alike

Funny how I went from Melodic Death Metal to Power Metal, and now to Progressive Metal.
The lyrics are just so much better in Progressive stuff, why?
Animelovahr 3 years ago 3
Haha. Well if you're coming from power metal, that's probably why (not that I have any problem with power metal, of course)
XD

you´re right, that´s as well interesting as true.
