  • 8 people don't know as much Cavaliers stuff as this guy...

  • I think ...

Everytime, your taps after accents are too big.

  • rock on all you tenor player out there Im tenor player my self

  • hahahahahaha.. "I'm better I promise".. ? Are you serious? Make a new video SHOWING that you improved.. Anyone can say "i am better because it's been a year"

  • @heunny then look at my NEWER videos.

  • LOL

  • u messed up on 8s -_- its 8 8 16 8 8 16 smart one!

  • @Koshimae217 There are different Variations on 8s. Your version is 8 8 16. mines 8 8 8 8.

  • @JBtenors08 agreed, like BD's version of eights isnt even 8's its triplets which makes it 12 in common 4/4 time. 8,8,8,8 is the most basic-rooted, even -sounding of them all. 8,8,16 is one that makes you think in stick control. this Koshimae217 kid, obviously knows not one goddamn thing about tenor playing. Id tear his shit up and make him wish he'd never played a drum in his life. I am "The Hammer" i play for Pro-mark, and Dynasty. hit me up if ya wanna get embarassed hoodrat.

  • @Koshimae217 ur retarted. our versoin is 8 8 6 6 8 8 6 6 4 4 3 3 4 16

  • @notar3alacc0unt just cuz the version is different doesnt make me retarded stupid,

    cuz mines 8 8 16 8 8 16, shut ur mouth foo and get ur facts right,tenors in general DO NOT have to be 8 8 6 6 8 8 6 6 4 4 3 3 4 16, our way is different,shut up

  • @Koshimae217 i was calling you retarted because your the one that yelled at him for not playing it your way... retard.

  • @notar3alacc0unt how did i yell at him? ur SO stupid, all i did was say smart one! an exclamation doesn't make it yelling,it means emphases, so shut up,get used to it,and stop whining about stuff next time, kay? kay

  • @Koshimae217 i didnt whine about anything dumbass. you did when you came complaining to me about 8's being different for different lines, which is what i told you, soooo... your just dumb and need to stop talking.

  • @notar3alacc0unt i dont need to stop talking,i am not dumb cuz i deffinetely have a higher I.Q than u,i didnt go complaining to u, u complained to me estupido, baka kozu with no life! go get a life at the dollar store,in the meantime, ima drum,PEACE OUT STUPID

  • @Koshimae217 "i am not dumb cuz i deffinetely have a higher I.Q than u." sorry. i didnt know i was dealing with a genious here, mr. baka kozu.

  • @notar3alacc0unt u dont even know what baka kozu means

  • @Koshimae217 no i dont, because im not a no life japanese anime freak like you. i spend my time with friends, not watching a cartoon in a different language, and trying to use it as an insult. your pathetic.

  • @notar3alacc0unt i spend my time with friends too retard,i havnt watched anime in 5 years, get a life,i learned japanese when my fam had japanese exchange students, why dont u grow a pair, aye?bye fag

  • @Koshimae217 your insults make no sence. why would you tell me to grow a pair when im not chickening out of anything? and are you canadian now? aye?

  • @notar3alacc0unt im not canadian u stupid fag,im tellin u to grow a pair,DEAL WITH IT

  • @Koshimae217 i actually am allready in posession of a pair, but thank you anyway

  • @notar3alacc0unt a fake pair maybe,just shut up,nobody WANTS to talk to u

  • @Koshimae217 i assure you my balls are real. and if you dont WANT to talk to me, dont respond. no ones forcing you to.

  • @Koshimae217 not necessarily, cavaliers are 16 the way through

  • Very.....interesting.

  • I stopped watching after the first minute.

  • that sucked

  • so did you march with anyone for your age out year?

  • @thsma2009

I was a last minute replacement for a quad player for Spirit before move ins for this summer. I ended up injuring my back 4 days in. so...yeah. i started to. but no. i wont be marching.

  • @JBtenors08 yeah i heard about that man. :( I am sorry to hear that. My friend told me about the Spirit spot and I was so stoked I didnt even audition. lol

  • @JBtenors08 yeah man, i'm sorry too. the book looked good i saw them in lot this year. it would have been a cool introduction: "hey i'm this kid on youtube and i think i commented on your vid, and you commented on mine... so we're like bros now right?" anyway, teach a line. look for positions. best thing to do after age out.

  • tighten it up and you'll be alright

  • you suuuuck

  • what corps did u try out for and did u make it?

  • did u make it? and what corps did u try out for?

  • the sticks in and out are lazy

  • @austineatsbagels

yeah. immature on my part. This is exactly a year old, so dont judge too harshly bro. I'm much better nowadays.

  • @JBtenors08 I've seen vids. You're really not. Ha.

  • I like how this has your mistakes in it too

    good to be honest

  • and is there anyway you could send me double the pleasue or deejay diddles?

  • not to be a jerk but you kinda look over the age for dci...but maybe you arent sending it to them? kinda look aged out bud BUT GREAT PLAYING

  • @slav32th3gr1nd

i dont have music to that on my comp any more...

but i turn 21 in two weeks. so i still have a summer left. and idk why i look so old. when i go to camps, other auditionees think i'm on staff.

  • ok well thanks (: and good luck

  • mid life crisis?

  • Be careful of hitting the rims...also I noticed when you go set sometimes....make sure the sticks are level instead of being slightly angled.its easy to fix, i had the same problem...just keep an eye on that...best of luck to whatever corps you are trying out for this year

  • @gx4ii Pearl in my opinion are pretty decent drums when used with Evans' heads...but the tuning really sux on his drum

  • @luckyboysconfusion69

sorry about that. old heads and a lack of a drum key.

  • @JBtenors08 its all good, heads can get really expensive, especially form Evans

  • suck

  • Also, the Cavaliers' 2006 feature isn't THAT fast.. haha. slow doownnn

  • he probably did that on purpose to emphasize his skills

  • I don't know if it's just the video quality or not, but it seems that a lot of your rolls and some diddles are kind of crushed. Solution- chop out more. This doesn't mean chicken and a roll at 200. It menas C&R at a medium tempo that feeels good.. and keep doing it without any starting over till it burns.. do that for a while. Rest.. then bump the tempo.

Also, maybe a littlllle stick control. SCV Stick Control all day long. :)

    Good stuff,though, man. You're good.

  • hey bro like what your doin now is there any way i can get the machine new age from ya i have been lookin for it since 07 if so send me a message but any ways good luck and hope to see ya on the finals field one day

  • this guy aint even markin time right lmao. when your heel touches the ground its on 1

this guy is makin 1 when he bend his knee. retard lmfao

  • there are many different ways of marking time.

  • @MrGinger18 people mark time differently genius, he has quads on a stand for one and they're pretty low so maybe he can't mark it right on purpose <.< i know i bend my knees and when they're out i count that as one but that's when im being lazy

  • Agreed. Some people mark time differently depending on whoever or whereever they learn from. There isnt really a certain way too mark time.

  • your feet get off in places. especially in the beginning

  • this guy needs to do more things that r interestin not just gettin faster and faster its freekin boring dude

  • to bad thats the required material. everyone plays that.

  • lol. my friend plays the quints/tenors. ur much better than her :o

  • what kind of mallets are those? IP-TJs?

  • nope. IP shorties. the TJs werent out when i made this vid

  • hah, ok, I was wondering how you got them so early xD. did you audition anywhere last year? this year?

  • Crossmen in December of 07

Cavaliers, Revolution, Blue Stars and Carolina Crown in 08.

I'm still loads better than i was in this vid tho

  • should practice with a carrier. your shoulders and upper body move a lot.

  • Yooo JB. I hate those quints with a passion! Those are what I use.... If only, each shell were cut to like half its depth, and the edges that meet the drum head were a little less dull, they'd be nice.

  • i love them. i just wish they were sextets and not quints.

  • But they sound too deep. And you have to crank the heads for a high sound.

  • I agree, I wish the shells were cut like even more than a half, it makes it too hollow sounding. and heavier :P

  • dynastys are deeper

  • Cute

  • if you sending a vid audition, you need to make sure your in contact with the caption your sending it too and you adress everything he wants, blanket vids dont exactly work. also you need to play with a met in the vid.

  • ZONES!

  • where can I find these exercises and excerpts?

  • your grip is wrong on the left hand, nice.

  • i notice sometimes when ur going round the drums u tend to move ur upper body a little.

i have that problem too but an inch can make the difference between hitting rim and head. really good tho.

  • you should just count off everything that way you get the actual tempo that you are playing because if you you just think tempo and go for it, chances are you gonna drag or rush.

but it was a really great attempt though.

  • If you send in a video to a Corps with you counting off for an invisible drumline they will call you a moron.

  • i only see one flaw which i struggle with also......when u move around the drums your x plane jumps every where and it seems to cause you to slice......hard to tell exactly with the sticks being white and all

  • yeah. sorry =/

i didnt even think about the whole white shirt, white sticks thing. :(

  • do you think you could send me machine?

that would make me happy :]

  • main thing i noticed was foot timing gets a little off in some of the exercises

  • Your playing some cool stuff man, just keep working and the chops will develop. Where did you find sheet music for the 2004 and 2008 cavaliers excerpts?

  • my roomate who marched Cavaliers pit (2006-2008) had the 2005 audition book. and he let me borrow it :D

and i bought the 2008 excerpts with the audition packet. but im working on alot of stuff to post.

  • yea man, I've got the 2007 and 2008 book. Waiting for 2009....

  • work on your double strokes and try and get a nice consistent sound

  • YOur eigths are uneven!

  • yeah. three of my friends at the college i got to marched Cavaliers, (my roomie being one of them) but yeah. im definately losing weight this summer to be more prepared for college drumline and drum corps tryouts.

  • yeah! my college makes us lift our feel slightly when marking time.

  • Few tips of advice.

    1. When marking time, only lift your heels and keep the feet together.

    2. Try to work on the stick height, it can almost seem like your flailing at certain points.

    3. Lose the gut, gotta be in tip-top shape to be in corp.

    4. Keep a calm face, don't look all stressed out and worried.

    5. Keep on playing you got talent, just work out the rough edges.

  • That was preet good advice except for the first one. I'm guessing you don't watch many videos? My high school has us lift our feet slightly off the ground. And Broken Arrow has a pretty darn good marching band.

  • Our Drum instructor, tom knapp, who is the lead drum instructor for the cavies, santa claira vanguard, and blue devils has taught us to raise everything up but our toes.

  • What? Scott Johnson is head of Blue Devils, Murray Gusseck is head of the Santa Clara, and the Caviliers battery caption head is Jim Ancona

  • I meant former, he has worked with all of them.

  • Oh ok

  • No one named Tom Knapp has ever been "lead drum instructor" with the Cavaliers.

  • It depends on the corp/ the teacher. Some people think you get a better feel of timing with toes off the ground by about an inch. As long as it works in keeping time its pretty much all the same

  • who is this?

  • are you in pride? message me in a personal message.

  • Do you know of Chris Gonzalez?

  • no? lol

  • dude...take your time when filming videos like this. take a breather or something. and yeah you did great but there is A LOT you can fix just by practice. so yeah...those were also the words of my old drum instructor.

  • stop hitting rims.

  • hahaha agreed!

  • i saw you at a revolution camp.. lol

  • dude i auditioned for revo with you.... dont know how i stumbled on this vid but i did

  • PROTIP: Not to tear you down or anything, but instructors don't give 2 shits about what you can and can't play. Technique (marching and playing), skill, reading music, endurance...that's all that matters.

Don't do what others have already done to further yourself.

  • lol oh i know

i've been to a few camps from different corps. They do expect alot from us, but thats all in the fun of it. I just put this video up incase an instructor at a corps wanted to see this...

but i have got invites to camps, like im about to go to one in march.

but about the "protip", lol i take no offense to what you said, just incase anyone starts bashing you. i understand that your comment is from one musician to another!

  • lol very much so it was. I was either at the cavie camp or the blue coats camp when I seen an instructor yell at a few rookies for bragging about and showing off historical and past solos.

  • geez. lol.

i know what you mean tho. i used to be like that till i went to college. but some of my friends i marched with at college marched Cavaliers. so yeah. playing with them (no homo) helped me get better.

so yeah...know whatcha mean man. lol

  • you say skill is important, and that involves being able to play stuff. but you said instructors dont care about what you are able to play.

  • There's a huge difference between what you can play and how you play.

Anybody can play any song...slow, fast, medium etc. But if you don't have the chops, the proper technique (i've been told to always follow the technique the corps tells you to use), and the endurance to play something like Ditty 10 times in 20 minutes without messing up @ 170, then why bother to show it off? That's the main reason why most drum corps don't audition people with past solos and songs we've already heard.

  • i see what you mean. thanks. :)

have you heard ditty the remix by the way? i dont particularly like it.

  • hmm, that's similar to what i use to warm up when i play.

  • ahhh dawg wats up i played tenors with you at the last revo camp

  • badazz i played drum corps but snare pt

and im playing tenors also check em out if you want...............10/10
