MISS OREGON!! That's my girl!! She is the sweetest, kindest, classest lady I know! <3 I'm so greatfull I got a chance to meet her, and joke with her before interview. She's my hero! :)
Guerrero-02-Murphy: Some of them seem too skinny. They seem to have the same height and in general look way too similar; to the point where it's scary. What will our children think? Is this why were are so many anorexia and low self-esteem problems? I must also point out that the swimming suits are strange.
Badon-02-Murphy.: All the contestants look alike. They share the same fake smile, swimsuit and abs. It's sad to say that if all the most beautiful women of the united states look alike and try to share the same image, then that single image will become the face of beauty.
Wyzzard-Jones-02-Murphy: The fact that each one of these woman had the same color swimsuit on and basically the same designed already sends a subliminal message that this is what beauty is. The color also struck me, because the color black represents a sort of sexy but classy look which the Miss American Pageant demonstrates throughout
I wonder how children will feel while watching this. All women are skinny and have confidence of their bodies. Also, people are cheering up on how women have a good body shape. If I were a kid like 8 years-old, I would think I have to be skinny and have a nice body to be pretty, and with a fat no one likes me.
I don't see how parading around half naked to be judged by other people's standards shows confidence and I really object to them saying this is a display of health and confidence to girls when they all look the same stereotype of beauty/sexy. Also I really despise this portion because I can at least slightly buy it when they try and justify the talent parts of these competitions, but this is literally prancing around in almost identical skimpy clothes, how do you judge that in a nonshallow way?
Theisen-02-MurphyThis must all be scripted. Im pretty sure that they create some fake excitement as if something might be wrong to try and make a plot to keep the viewers attention. I really couldn't tell them apart.
Martinson-02-Muprhy: Every single one of these women look alike because they are all following the same guidelines as to what beauty is. Thin wastes, wide hips and toned legs have become the standard of beauty along with fitting into the smallest swimsuit possible as well as following the guidelines.
Dube-02-Murphy: My response to this and to the top rated comment is that there is a reason every contestant looks alike. The prefered beauty is to have a heart shaped face, high cheek bones, thcks eyelashes or makeup that enhances this, a muscular stomach and somewhat thick and muscular thighs, almost no breasts, height, a tan, and a very pronouced white smile. This is because the body type signifies health, and the face shape enhances their bubbly smile and personality.
It must have been very difficult for the judges to choose who goes on because they all look so alike. I watched this two times and could only tell them apart by the color of their skin and size of their hair. This competition's view on beauty is skewed. Clearly, the only reason I can not tell them apart is because they think they have achieved the ideal image of beauty.
Very unrealistic of what a girl really looks like... Some of the bathing suit look like lingerie. They have absolutely no personality in their performance because of the choreography in this section, which makes in extremely boring. It seriously irritates me to watch women do this to themselves, and for what? what is the real prize?
Donoso-Reddick- 04- Murphy: This was not as enjoyable as i thought it would be. They are beautiful women, no doubt, but when they all look the same and everything is choreographed it takes the beauty out of each and every one of them.
Zhang-02-Murphy: What do the judges really judge these contestants on? They all have a nice, slim body and they all know how to walk the runway. They all are pretty confident to be willing to walk in a swimsuit.
Glade-03-Murphy This part of the competition is a perfect example of the objectification of women in contemporary media. Like many people have said before all the contests have conformed to the same appearance and attitude. This once again is an example of how the media pushes certain ideal to the public.

Lima-03-Murphy I don't get how the judges pick who wins this competition when they all look very similar. They all have one set idea on what they think the perfect body should be.
@HRWR22 Willis-04-Murphy My explanation is that this is all scripted. In real life, most people wouldn't be smiling and giddy if they were told "these 12 girls are prettier than you" in front of millions of people.
Mool-04-Murphy: I agree...wht they are wearing does not look like a swimsuit at all! And the fact that they are wearin the same thing as well as doing exactly the same things on stage, it is so trained!
Mirabile-04-Murphy: I found it interesting that all the women stood together, held hands, smiled, and were extrememly happy for the other women who's names got called. This whole segment made all of the women appear extremely fake because in a competition like this I don't believe that they are actually happy for each other. it's an act to make themselves look nice for the judges.
Valliere-04-Murphy: Swimsuit? The only thing that has ever separated a bikini from women's underwear is function, these girls were not swimming and thus were essentially walking around in their skivvies. This competition has more to do with pole dancing than swimming.
Rich-04- Murphy: I think that they all look the same. And also I think it is rather uneffective because they all look the same with the same bathing suit and the same heels with the same big hair and individuality is lost due to it.
Callahan-04-Murphy: Not going to lie but the swimsuit competition is my favorite part of the whole thing. Some of the women look really good but others dont. They should have them wear different swimsuits though. They need more colors and flare than just plain black.
Shrestha-03-Murphy: I agree with Trinh-4-Murphy, the swimsuit competition promotes this conception of an ideal woman's body: tall, toned, curvy, and flawless skinned. It's all about aesthetic appeal. In order to feel confident, a woman has to fit these characteristics. It's become part of society to feel insecure and constantly change our bodies to fit the ideal woman's body. The show manipulates our societies values to focus on how good we look: "looking amazing in a ...tiny swimsuit".

Li-03-Murphy: From the walking presentation to the results announcement, no girls even said a word. Is it because "Miss America" should be a beautiful woman outside rather than her inside beauty?
Fernandez-3-Murphy: To kind of disagree with Sylvester-3-Murphy, I don't think they should have to feel beautiful and special by walking around in a bikini and heels. They should feel beautiful by being themselves, not what people want them to be.
Waites-04-Murphy: The thing I find more degrading than the fact that they all show an ideal body type is that they all appear to lack an individual brain. Each one wears nearly the same outfit, and all do the same walk up the stage. It's like it is subtly telling girls not to think ad just act the person before them.
@wayteelsik Vallas-03-Murphy: I agree with your statement. I also want to bring up the ad. It projected that if you are beautiful you could also wear a crown and go shopping and have a lot of fun. This is not an image we should be showing the next generation. I am happy that all of the women on stage looked healthy and fit. That is a better body image than showing women who are starving themselves, like models in the fashion industry.
sylvester-3-murphy i say good for these girls for having the confidence to walk around practically naked infront of millions of people. if you got it, flaunt it. they just want to feel beautiful and special, and win some money in the process. whats wrong with that?
Wong-02-Murphy: The swimsuit competition mainly serves to display eye candy to viewers. However, it also sends a message that beauty is supposed to be a fit and curvy body. Beauty lies in the eye of the beholder so by telling the mass that a certain image is beautiful, it makes people who don't look like that feel like they are less worth than they are.
Trinh-04-Murphy: The competition seems almost degrading because the girls are all representing the ideal American body that people expect to see. A slim and silky smooth figure with a bright smile. The girls are not genuine. The announcer said that this would be a competition of health, fitness, and self confidence. Viewers can see their fitness, but they can not determine their health and self confidence. The scholarships are given out to the one with the most appealing girl.

Grieco-3-Murphy: I think the Miss America contestants send a positive message to women that health and fitness is important, but I think walking down a stage in matching colored and designed swim suits does nothing to show their individuality. If they were able to wear whatever swim suit they wanted it would show women everywhere that it is okay to be different and have your own style.
DaCunha-4-Murphy: Okay so i say screw health, fitness, and self confidence only because as the announcer said it is what we see, and as far as that goes I dont think that these are the perfect body types. @beautyisacurse1 Why would the be anorexic looking? This is not a beauty pageant. It is a scholarship program, yes part of it is about beauty. But the swimsuit competition is to show that you are fit.....its not to say she is skinnier than her, or she has better abs. That's not what it's about at all.
@nicolemiller1994 They say its about fitness... that's bullshit name one person that won in beauty pageants or scholarship pageants which are both the same thing that aren't skinny. I really want to tell you to go shut the fuck up. Trust me I been in many pageants.
@beautyisacurse1 I've been in pageants too...the Miss America organization, local pageants. It is about fitness. Beauty pageants and scholarship pageants are NOT the same thing. For one, beauty pageants do not have the talent portion. That is one of the biggest thing. Yes beauty is a big thing, but it is also inner beauty. You're going to say its cliche, but its not. I have seen many of the girls who may not be the skinniest of the contestants win, one of them being my best friend. THANK YOU!
@nicolemiller1994 If you're a professional pageant contestant like you say than you should know not all scholarship pageants require talent. Its not about inner beauty, its just about how many charity event you do so they can have proof of you and show it off. Just because a person does charities doesn't mean they have inner beauty, its just something required to win. Yea go back to living in your fantasy land you clearly don't know that much about pageants.
This pageant has a lot less quality bodies and faces than miss usa !
