  • She looked so happy too, until he whipped out the toaster! Hopefully he & many other husbands learned something from Howie!

  • oh my goodness, a toaster huh? hmmm maybe as a Christmas present but as an Anniversary present, not so sure about that one!

  • A toaster can be helpful but does that mean she has to make him toasts every morning? hummm

  • My Charlie once got me a toaster for our anniversary. Then he slept in the barn for two months.

  • @MrsRoseNylund If only I had a barn for my husband to sleep in... No, I'm kidding. He'd NEVER buy me a toaster for our anniversary.

A sound mixer maybe, but he knows I want one,so it's different.

  • No kidding Song - my husband could use some serious Howie lessons in time for Christmas - he already gave me a new set of pots and pans - so I could cook him dinner....

  • Someone needed lessons, thank goodness for Howie coming to the rescue....lol. I know my Hubby needs lessons, I too wonder if Howie could come teach him a thing or to??

  • Howie, can you come to my house and give my husband gift buying lessons?

  • Don't churches make couples take a class before they get married? Have them watch this video ;)

  • I would of been happy for a toaster. When my husband and I were dating my Christmas gift was a boy with arrows. FYI.. that doesn't spell romantic either.

  • Just 3 months till my anniversary. I should probably start working on my buydotcom wishlist now. Maybe if I email it to him once a week he'll get the picture....

  • I bought myself a toaster for no reason other than I needed one. DO NOT get me one for a gift!

  • You know, what really gets me about the holidays is that people expect too much of one another. I give the guy an A for effort and if she'd given him a little more pre-gift-guying guidance before he hit buydotcom, he wouldn't have needed a "do over."

  • At this point in life - he should KNOW better, Doris! If she would have made him watch more romantic comedies, I think he would have known that appliances and cleaning items are a big no-no.

  • if my husband gave me a toaster for a gift I'd flip a script on him! LoL

  • Nice retro toaster.. but not a good anniversary gift. Egads.

  • It is quite surprising how many men think that this would be an acceptable anniversary gift. lol Thank goodness Howie isn't like that.

  • Maybe someday guys will get a clue...from Howie!

  • What a dolt! Who would give something like that and expect a nice "reward"?

  • My husband once thought a giant, family size box of my favorite laundry detergent would make a good gift. Good thing for him my daughter headed him off!

  • Wow, I think we might have found a gift that's WORSE than a toaster!! Laundry detergent? LOL!

  • Oh my gosh - was that guy serious? My wife would have a fit!

  • That lady got a surprise alright - for her anniversary she learned that her husband has no common sense...

  • One year there was this lamp my wife really really wanted a lot. I got it for her on her birthday. That's when I learned that when buying "practical" gifts, make effing sure it's NOT on an "important" day!!!

  • Oh dude. It's one thing if she asked you for a toaster, but from the look on her face, she didn't. Never buy a small appliance for a romantic occasion. LOL

  • I'm glad that my wife never expects much from me... maybe this year I should surprise her with something extra special.

  • in my experience, surprise is definitely part of the winning package

  • Only Howie can get away with talking about "give a little, get a little know what I mean". Too bad that Husband wasn't going to away with anything if it weren't for Howie...lol

  • I've watched alot of videos but have never seen one where the woman looks so upset, the Husband cracks me up when he looks away for split second and resumes his happy face. And of course the earrings save the day!

  • No doubt not a minute too soon! Can you imagine being that lady?

  • She really looks mad.... the earrings were a much better choice. Thanks Howie for saving the day (and the marriage)

  • Howie saved the day sure, but the dude is still in for a talkin to from the looks of wifey

  • Oh my... it seems the husband it's playing with her. Well, not funny. A few nights sleeping in the sofa for sure :)

  • I'm wondering if she had to cook dinner AND then got a toaster too! LOL! Way to save the evening Howie.

  • Howie, I believe you saved the marriage LOL

  • Howie ALWAYS saves the day...but hey, at least the husband remembered the anniversary. Mine never does.

  • This husband had better thank his lucky stars that Howie was around to save the day!

  • An easy way to solve the problem? Make a list of things you'd like to have at the beginning of each year & give it to your spouse. That way, if you don't want a toaster, you probably won't get one.

  • True confessions: I'm way more likely to forget our anniversary than my husband is...but neither of us would ever give a toaster as a gift.

  • I was just thinking earlier that I'd like a handheld vaccuum for christmas...or my anniversary (which is soon after). But only if I ASK for it. In which case Howie doesn't need to intercede on my behalf ;)

  • Thankfully I know I won't bet getting that next year as it will be our 2nd anniversary and the one we got for our wedding still works great. Makes me worry though... what will he get me?

  • This man could have been in serious trouble if Howie hadn't shown up. I really couldn't imagine what the next few days in house would have been like. lol

  • That might have been their very last anniversary if Howie hadn't stepped in with a much better gift!

  • I actually wouldn't mind getting a toaster, of course I wouldn't mind getting any kind of gift. I'm lucky if my husband even remembers. Maybe next year will be my year.

  • I have a hard time believing someone could be so dense as to get a toaster as an anniversary gift. Really? Does that happen? Judging from some of your comments, it apparently does. That boggles the mind!

  • At about 10 seconds, the chick looks like she may kill Howie instead...over the 'get a little' comment, maybe? Hmm....

  • WonderfulInwestland, you're so right...she does look angry about that comment. But only for a second.

  • Okay, first off, doesn't he get any points for remembering the anniversary in the first place? I know women want us to be all romantic and pick the right stuff out of our own foggy little brains, but a little communication is not out of line. Tell me what you want, I go to the site and buy it, get free shipping. You're happy. I'm happy. They're happy.

  • Jack, I totally agree. My wife and I got over this hurdle a long time ago. I just told her I'm not smart enough to figure out the good gifts. Hadn't thought about letting her browse buydotcom though. Great idea and yet another way to save my neck.

  • I need to give you my husband's number. He will give me something that's just a little "off" for a significant occasion and then try to convince me why it's the perfect gift. He gets away with it because his explanations are so darned funny, but I am going to suggest a little joint buydotcom browsing in the future.

  • The sad thing is that there are really guys who are that clueless.

  • "A toaster!?" It could be worse..

  • At least it wasn't some big, expensive 'man-toy' that she wouldn't want.

  • The good news is, she looks surprised to get the toaster...maybe he gave better gifts before (and going forward, since he's gotten some guidance ;) )

  • Wonder what he got her for her birthday? A blender maybe?

  • At least it wasn't a vacuum cleaner.

  • This man reminds me so much of my husband. LOL I can totally relate to this woman's frustrations.

  • Way too funny :D I was this guy for ages, till i smartened up.

  • Did anyone notice how he rolled his eyes? Wow!!! Totally did not see that coming, thank goodness for Howie to the rescue.

  • ...and a sappy card?! LMBO...I happen to like sappy cards!

  • gosh not a toaster! I got one for xmas one year and was not happy! LoL

  • men will be men...gotta love it!

  • I actually think this is my favorite buy(dot)com commercial. Howie just cracks me up in this one.

  • That's why we keep our wishlists up-to-date around here. So much easier than guessing at what they want!

  • At least he remembered to get her a gift. Though, I don't think she saw it the same way.

  • Giving a toaster as an anniversary present is not gonna close the deal!

  • Giving a toaster is gonna have ya sleeping on the sofa. or the shed. Or in another state!

  • Roses, champagne, and some new piece of technology always 'gets me a little' haha

I think a toaster would get me a little punch in the face!

  • Poor guy, he tried... he lit candles and bought roses, he just didn't deliver the right gift ;)

  • LOTS of innuendo's in this short clip, did anyone else catch that?

  • dumb pop up

  • Stupid pop up

  • This was actually a pop up for me, I wasn't even on youtube. Fuck you comerical.

  • Are there really guys out there dumb enough to give a toaster to their wife for an anniversary?

  • ABSOLUTELY, Halie! You'd be surprised how dumb guys can be when it comes to this sort of thing!

  • These commercials crack me up. My favorite one is "Gay's Smoothie" where Howie is all lounged out on the island in the ladies kitchen! Too funny!

  • Howies' lessons for newlyweds - no toasters for year one... Maybe you can get away with that after being married for 20 and you can't stand your spouse anymore...

  • Places like this that are offering free shipping are really getting out there ahead of the "real world" competition with lower prices that stick. I'd like to buy local, but when the price is lower online and there's no shipping, I can't justify not going with the more economical choice.

  • Free shipping is da bomb! Maybe that man would have fared better if he stuck some jewelry inside that toaster?!

  • Holy cow really? A toaster for an anniversary present? Are there really any guys out there who would do that?

  • Haha! "Get alittle" - that was classic! A toaster aint gonna get no dude a little of nuthin! Show me the diamonds baby!

  • The get a little makes me giggle every time. Like, seriously, every time.

  • Howie saves the day again! Hopefully, the hubby will do better in the future!

  • My mom always said that, don't give me what I need, give me what I want & I've used that for gift-giving occasions ever since, unless the person specifically asks for something, anyway.

  • I think your Mom is a pretty smart lady and I also thinking a little guidance on the gift giving for we clueless husbands is not out of line.

  • what is it with guys anyway? why would a husband think a toaster is a great anniversary gift? I guess Howie set him straight, tho...LOL

  • OMG! Just look at that face when the toaster is on the table! Looks like me the time I got a super size box of laundry soap for my birthday. Not the best choice, kwim?

  • Ohh man. You really got a box of laundry soap for your birthday? I have so been in the place where I actually needed stuff like that -so I was happy about getting it, but one year my husbands gramma gave me slimfast for Christmas. THAT was the worst gift EVER! LOL!

  • This appeals to my luxury ego as well as to my practical ego. Best of both worlds from Howie and buydotcom!

  • Oh to have an anniversary gift again. My day is a-comin though! I just know it. Howie?

  • Everybody needs a sappy card and some sappy, romantic gifts. Thanks, buydotcom!

  • Even the most hippie of us would love the surprise gift in the very utilitarian toaster.

  • Get a little? LOL! Great response, too - Know what I mean?

  • Yep. Put a lovely personal gift inside the toaster! Yay for the giver and yay for the receiver!

  • I always have a rule - don't get me something I "need"...get me something I want. Still, this was a neat surprise!

  • Clever campaign and it's certainly stimulated a lot of discussion here about the way men and women shop. I come down on the side of the thought counts, get ideas from each other, add a splash of romance and you can get away with even the most practical gift.

  • Great idea, Great concept and perfect for the husbands out there who don't have a clue on what to get their wives, its about time someone is on the same page as us women...and great for the men too!! I've found something to buy for my hubby already and its not even our anniversary!

  • I still giggling with laughter over the look on her face of disappointment...lol.

The great Howie just saves the day as usual!!!

  • Too sweet for words!! Like most of the previous comments, Howie can make anything happen!! Just wish he would pop in and have some pretty nice earrings just suddenly appear on my table!!!

  • First time to buydotcom and I thought that man looked familiar, then I realized it was Howie...WOW...what a total brain freeze. I didn't know he made this videos, then when I searched he's got a lot...plus I didn't know they had free shipping. I am off to find some more videos of Howie....I need a good laugh right now.

  • My Niece questioned Howie's comment on "You know what I mean?"...she goes...No I don't know what he means...it was really cute. She might be only 7, but she was so cute about it. And only Howie can get away with saying...Know what I mean?

  • I love this ad. It's just so much like real life. Although, my anniversaries never involved surprise visits from Howie.

  • I wish I had thought to check out buydotcom before my anniversary last month, I could have really surprised the wife.

  • My husband gave me a swanky coffee pot last year, the kind that takes the little cups with all the different flavors. Technically it was an "appliance" and technically he was getting something out of it too, but I love it. Of course he didn't know he could get it online for less with free shipping, but live and learn.

  • An awesome coffee pot would definitely get points from me too! Morning happiness for years to come and it's a thoughtful and useful gift!

  • I agree. There's a level of "appliance" gift that can be thoughtful and enjoyable for years to come -- like a big screen TV -- honey, if you're reading -- I'm just saying -- free shipping. Just an idea.

  • Dexter Morgan would beg to differ after this past weeks episode when he tried to give Rita a bread maker ;) Fella's, If you're going to give an appliance ALWAYS give a separate romantic gift as well!

  • I try to get my wife what she wants and most of the time she asks for specific things, we both love Howie and buydotcom, especially with the free shipping.

  • Are you serious? I love it!!! Another potential meltdown avoided....gotta love Howie for saving the day!!!!

    Pssst. Hey Howie...Thanks!

  • The look on her face reminds me of my Mom every time my Dad would upset her, she would have that look...and we all knew it was time to run for cover. But like Howie, my Dad would always try to make things right. I remember when he bought her a new diamond ring...it was nice after that!!! For about 10 minutes, when my brother and sisters made a huge mess.

  • If you know what I mean, Howie is one person that I would definitely buy from because he's a great spokesman. And I love buydotcom and love the idea of their free shipping on their orders. Anyone else find Howie kinda cute???

  • HA...I would of loved a toaster this year...this year I got a can opener. I don't know what my hubby was thinking!!! I keep thinking to myself that maybe I need to learn how to cook better. My hubby is funny about stuff like this. Gotta love him!!

Hey Howie, can you give us some good ideas so maybe I can pass them on to my hubby?

  • I noticed she only had a ring on her finger, he should of gotten her a bracelet as well...but yeah he sure looked like a deer in headlights there for a minute.

  • Oh my good loggy! Yeah if I had done that for my wife she probably would have cried and then I would have felt like a big ol you know what!

  • So honestly, has this ever happened to any of our guys here? Has anyone gotten their wife an appliance for their anniversary? If so...did she give you the look that kills? Not sure how I'd react if my wife got me a appliance, I might freak on how to use it.

  • I'm really loving the conversation & thoughts that everyone is sharing over a video, this is great, so Howie can even prove that conversation isn't dead!

  • I know what you mean. Who knew an ad could generate such chatter? How very cool.

  • Ha Ha this is too funny, loved the look on her face and I have to agree...if looks could kill. I think this one would of had his head on the chopping block...lol.

  • Well, I'll say one thing for this commercial, it's really gotten men and women thinking about what is and isn't a good anniversary gift and what they do and don't want. I'd say a pitch that does that is pretty much on target.

  • I agree! This is one thought provoking commercial - even if it was meant only to be funny and stuff. Howie saves the day and sparks conversation all in the same few seconds! :)

  • Thankfully Howie stepped in & saved the day for this poor guy, she looked pretty irate!

  • I'm not sure that it matters what the gift is, as long it's something thoughtful. I think it all depends on the couple. In this case? dude screwed da pooch.

  • Well, they wouldn't have had much of a commercial if he'd gotten it right. Still, it's clever and funny, but also on target. My grandmother would have thought a toaster was a wonderful gift. My mother was a diamond gal all the way. Me? Honey, bring on the electronics.

  • Exactly! If she'd WANTED a toaster, that's one thing, but clearly she didn't. And Howie knew best.

  • I actually like the looks of that toaster.. but not as an anniversary gift.

  • I agree, innocentlydecayed. As toasters go, it's not bad at all. But as a gift? Not so much.

  • Yeah, he should have stopped before the toaster and saved himself.

  • Poor clueless guy. I think she'd have been happy with a nice dinner and a card, and yeah. maybe a gift certificate.

  • Toaster vs Diamonds.. I'd take the toaster, honestly.

  • The back and forth between the men and women in these comments is fascinating. I have to say that I think we men have been over-complicating the whole anniversary business. This particular vendor does gift certificates. Attach one of those puppies to the roses and champagne and it looks like win/win to me.

  • He should have stopped with the roses, champagne & card, honestly! Maybe he'll get smart and use buydotcom in the future though!

  • You know, if Howie would not of snapped his fingers...it may have gotten a bit ugly. I've seen this before, its not a pretty site...and quite scary. Nice save Howie, the guy gets to live another year!!!

  • Hey sometimes a sappy card and flowers is all we can afford sometimes, but its a great idea to go to buydotcom and find some great ideas. I just can't get over the look on her face.

  • I remember my Dad doing this to my Mom...he wished he'd gotten a gym membership...it would have been better torture for him...lol.

  • I have to say I would be thrilled with an appliance for my anniversary! (As long as it was one of those groovy new washer/dryer sets, or a side by side fridge, or a huge new stove..... :)

  • I like gifts, if my husband knew we needed a toaster & got a nice one, I would be happy with it, jewelry would be nice though, too!

  • Wow. As a man, I have to say that the idea of an appliance never crossed my mind. But then again, I'd never thought about shopping online either. I figured all places had really high shipping charges and now I find some don't even have shipping charges!

What next? A chinese dragon in a monty python song?

  • A gift is a gift.. Maybe I'm an odd duck, but I believe in the thought that goes into something, not the cost of it.

  • It is the thought that counts, but one could argue that an impersonal gift isn't one that involved thought. The price doesn't matter. Roses and champagne would have been enough for me.

  • Sure the thought counts, but let's face it, some thoughts are better than others. I'm with the guy who said roses, champagne, and a gift card. Hit all the bases.

  • Gym membership?? That would be one dead husband.

  • Oh, a gym membership is on the same line as a weekend at fat camp lol

  • I'm assuming I'm the bad husband since my wife emailed me this video.

Howie, can you snap your fingers for me!

  • You and me both, canman! My wife sent it to me and told me I could take a few lessons from Howie.

  • canman1168 Did she really? I mean, mocking the husband in the vid is one thing, but I'd never send it to my husband just to make a point.

  • Things could of been worse. He could of done what my buddy did and gave hiw wife a gym membership. She wasn't to happy.

  • Ooooh! A gym membership?! Oh man, I bet that guy slept on the couch for a week...LOL

  • Wishlists are made of complete win. Buy(.)com is made of win. But really, diamond earrings along with roses and champagne, not win for *my* budget.

  • Go to the website in the video and make a wishlist, give it to your spouse and you'll never be disappointed!

  • I had never thought about making a wishlist somewhere. That's a win-win for everyone!

  • I think bigdoglvr1 has he right idea, forget the gifts, do something together that's inexpensive. You have the memories years later, rather than the empty wallet.

  • I don't think it's so much that a toaster is a bad gift, it's just a bad anniversary gift. Christmas you could probably get away with it. Anniversary gifts are supposed to be more romantic and it's nice to have some place to shop where you can go both ways and get what's appropriate.

  • Um, yeah.. she looked just a tad upset. Good thing Howie was there to save him!

  • I love when Howie snaps and freezes time. And the look on the wife's face...can we say LIVID?

  • Aren't people staying happily married already getting a better anniversary gift than just a toaster? ;) (and a visit from Howie?!?)

  • MrWil, we do the same thing at Christmas, that way we make sure that each of us gets exactly what we want & there's no disappointment. I think we'll be checking out the website this year for sure!

  • I actually dragged my wife in, made her watch the commercial and read the comments and said, "See, you don't have to set me up to fail." She actually liked the idea of shopping together online. Score one for the boys!

  • So what did she get him? Isn't a toaster better than nothing? Hope he 'gets a little' for the flowers and champagne ;)

  • We never exchange gifts.. we would rather the money go towards paying the house off. We do though go out to dinner just the two of us though.

  • You know, not all men shop like that....I got a coffee pot for our anniversary, but then inside was a nice surprise. So I see where my hubby got the idea from....Nice!!

  • I get my wife flowers for our anniversary every year - but if I came home giving her a toaster with them she would not make my life a very happy one! I think Howie has the right idea....

  • I can say I've never gotten an appliance before, of course the only thing I get is a card, but my theroy is at least he remembers.

  • Odd that there is no meal? maybe he is getting it delivered?

I think Howie's expression at 0:13 is priceless!

  • I wonder how many men give appliances for an anniversary gift? Mine don't.. of course he doesn't get me anything. We just go out to eat.

  • I was just gonna say, I don't think this guys was gonna get a little of anything....nice come back with the earrings Howie!!!
