@venomfan3412 WWE does bring in indy wrestlers from time to time to wrestle on their smaller shows. AJ Styles has wrestled on a few televised house shows with WWE. Look on Youtube for them
I'm from the future and on December 18, 2011 Brian Danielson aka Daniel Bryan has cashed in his Money In The Bank for the World Heavyweight Champion to The Big Show and won.
Good match for how short it was. Dunno bout the pants....suppose at least it's different from the jorts. fuck attitude, I miss the Ruthless Aggression Era
It's interesting to have Danielson say that being on the ROH and independent circuit produced more revenue than being on the undercard in WWE. Does that amount include his merchandise sales during intermissions or just straight paydays?
@AxelCutlass Everything Cena is, is what allows guys like Danielson the ability to make big money. Without guys like Hogan, Rock, Cena, guys like Danielson are performing for 300 people in a high school gym. Now, I mean no disrespect as I LOVE LOVE LOVE what guys like Danielson and AJ Styles and Christopher Daniels do, but with all that said, the Cena's and Hogan's of the wrestling world are the main reason wrestling is as big as it is.
@RevAIDGnarl True enough, guys like Hogan and Cena make wrestling popular, but for the wrong reason. They were good for marketing, but they are the epitome of superstars, not wrestlers. This is exactly why the Cena/Punk feud was so brilliant because it addressed that. Even without Hogan or Cena, guys like Danielson, Styles, Daniels, Samoa Joe, Low Ki would have one day become big enough to sell out huge arenas. More people want to see wrestling, not big guys doing a total of eight moves.
@RevAIDGnarl But it doesn't have to be that way. You're making it sound like good wrestling and good showmanship cannot coexist in the same person. HBK, Flair or Jericho and Austin were much more entertaining than Hogan and Cena. It's all about how WWE promotes people. They didn't promote Punk at first so he didn't draw. He's allowed to promote himself as a last resort and suddenly he's the biggest star WWE had since the Attitude era....
@Wurzelknecht As much as I like Punk, he isn't even close to being "the biggest star WWE had since the Attitude Era". Cena is, and although the spotlight is currently on Punk, guys like Orton, HHH and the Undertaker are bigger stars than him as well. If (and that's a big if) given the chance and if he capitalizes on his opportunities, Punk could be the biggest star since the Attitude Era, but that seems unlikely to me.
@gaatakek Alright that was an exaggeration I admit. But I stand by what I said, that the reason why guys like Cena are the bigger stars is not that they're just more entertaining by default, but it's the marketing of WWE that WANTS to make them more entertaining than other guys. I recently heard that Daniel Bryan was voted off of NXT back then, because Vince feared, that in the Finals (which were not rigged) fans could choose him over Barrett who Vince liked better because he's big
@gaatakek Man, it's not even really up to Punk how he "capitalizes on his opportunities". It's who the company wants to PUSH and make money off of. In something that is scripted you can only do but so much. Punk can work his ass off in the ring, don't botch anything, have great moves, sell his opponent's moves just right, and talk good on the mic, but in the END it boils down to who the company wants.
@docdoom187 I agree that who the higher-ups get behind matters more than anything else, but capitalizing on opportunities and taking matters into your own hands does matter a little in my opinion. Over the years, WWE has pushed a lot of guys who the audience simply didn't get behind, and on the other hand, they've not pushed some guys who were very over.
@RevAIDGnarl ...and if that would happen more often, I mean if more guys on WWE were allowed to show their talent both in the ring and on the mic, wwe wouldn't need guys like Cena as poster-boys. It's not that WWE doesn't have talented guys who also can talk and be entertaining, it's just that they don't WANT them to show their talent so they can continue to push guys who look like Vince wants wrestlers to look and especially to push guys THEY created instead of guys who already have fans.
@TakeMeHomeTonightTV So clothesline, clothesline, double axe hammer, then Protobomb makes a good wrestler? Dude, Cena has ALWAYS sucked. His OVW matches sucked, UPW matches sucked, and he sucks so much more now. Danielson makes wrestling look like a science rather than an art form or the big circus act that Cena embodies.
This was probably a blessing in disguise, D-Bry ended up goinng around the world and honing his skills becoming the best technical wrestler on the planet.
@narutofan4545 I guess that's the way it is sometimes. I mean, looking at The Rock's stupid haircut and wrestling gear during his WWE debut at Survivor Series 1996, how many of us predicted that he'd be one of the three biggest stars in wrestling history along with Austin and Hogan?
You can say about Cena whatever you want but he had no problem doing chain wrestling or slugging it out with Bryan... even 8 years ago. He might not do fancy shit like most guys on the indys but he's still a very good wrestler.
hahahaha no wonder why cena used to be on a C show like Velocity in 2003 because back then promoters like Paul Heyman had sense how much he suck... and Brian Danielson back then was really a 'Rookie' so it's fine from him to be over there but ROFL on Cena he the Chump on Velocity..!!!
@navieedful Cena was on a show like velocity because it was a satellite smackdown show. plus he was just starting in WWE himself. i think 2003 was his wwe rookie year
@PSPlaytime i laughed my ass off when they brought him on NXT calling him a rookie lol the same goes with sheamus and all the other NXT rookies i was watching them in FCW for years lol
Why didn't WWE offer him a full-time career around THAT time?? He obviously had talent, and only a moron couldn't see that! Yet the had to go BACK to ROH for years on end and then do this NXT bullshit just to get fired and THEN, after like 3 or 4 months, FINALLY get an official WWE career and a push only after his fans went nuts.
They did. He chose the indies as it would pay him more than if he had signed with WWE. Remember, Danielson was still a new guy with talent then but not the best in the world as he would become in ROH.
@whoo689 well danielson requested to be on NXT & FCW to work off ring rust i don't think it was the fans that brought him back he was never really fired i mean each indie show he did he put over how great the wwe was now finally he's getting some respect he the mitb winniner hopefully will main event mania
@bethwwe1 john cena has always been a good wrestler! if he was not good, he wouldn't be a 10-Time WWE Champion...but we all hate his Superman gimmick...that is what sux
@STAMATIOSmcmgfan mr kennedy is a pompous arrogant douchebag whos ego will get in the way of him being overly sucessful every time the opportunity is presented to him
@M3T4LL1C4XxXRK0 Fuckin Kenny himself was a total dick to me on twitter. :O He jumped in on something that he didnt even know the full story on. :\ I used to think he was kinda kool. He truly is..... an asshole. -__-
wrestling stink. they exposed too much of the industry and the internet hurt it with all the spoilers. after the finally admitted wrestling was fake and let everyone in on the terms like babyface, heel, kayfabe and blading. a magician is no longer appealing if he shows you how he does all his tricks.
It wasn't long after I started watching wrestling when I was younger that I realised myself that it was scripted. Please don't call wrestling fake, it's scripted. It's just ignorant calling it that. If you had to call it fake then it would be a percentage of roughly, 20% fake - 80% scripted. It's about storylines (not present wwe's strong point) and athleticism. In my opinion a lot of people fall short by watching it for competitive fights, which is not what wrestling is about.
@TheShootTruth10 Penn and Teller reveal everything and are some of the best magicians in the world. You have to look at it from the right point of view. Yes the outcomes are scripted. It doesn't take away from the athleticism. We all know the Harlem Globetrotters are going to beat the Washington Generals every game. It doesn't make it any less entertaining to watch.
@TheShootTruth10 that is true Some Adults just need to accept that this isnt their Wrestling anymore this is for a brand new generation of Kids who will Tell their kids about Guys like Cena Daniel Bryan Randy Orton those r the Guys looking up to how Kids of the 90's looked up to the Rock And Austin theres TNA and YouTube for thsoe who can't move on and accept the Wrestling the way it is now
He should do that spinning spinebuster instead of the stupid sit-out powerbomb he does now. That move actually looks convincing... he just does the F-U for the crowd pop.
Show this to anyone who says Cena's "never had a good match" or "can't wrestle." Though it was short, I think it proves the point. Just an awfully booked finish. SMH @WWE
Ah, yes, John Cena's identity crisis period in 2002-2003. How I wish he never got overpushed in 2005. Then again, there weren't any main event superstars back then except for him, Batista, DX, Edge (as a heel), RVD (before he got suspended for crack) and a younger CM Punk in ECW.
@JohnUCantSeeMeCena They have gotten incredibly over in the promotions willing to give them a push, also known as the entire independent wrestling circuit. John Cena is over because he has Vince McMahon's fat wallet pushing him constantly on national television, and he uses that opportunity to constantly pander to the fans, instead of cut decent promos. Nothing about John Cena is better than Bryan Danielson or Tyler Black, he's just got Vince McMahon's new age Hulk Hogan push.
Cena use to be so great on the mic and in the ring. The guy has lost all his passion for wrestling and don't give me that bullshit about how he participates in charities and do all these appearances because most wrestling fans can give a flying fuck about the media, we care about what the guy does in the ring and for the past few yrs majority of Cena ppv main event matches have been the worst matches ever witnessed on a ppv card except for the opponents who could carry him in a match.
I don't hate Cena, and I accept that he's a decent person who is only doing his job, but to call him a wrestler is an insult to all the others who actually could wrestle.
I've seen Danielson's matches with Samoa Joe, Homicide, Jushin Thunder Liger, KENTA, Takeshi Morishima(Match of the Year 2007), Naomichi Marufuji, Go Shiozaki, Katsuhiko Nakajima, Nigel McGuinness, Austin Aries, etc. He is an incredible wrestler, and Cena cannot be compared to him in that field.
@CMY187 How is it an insult? If you can call Triple H, Mark Henry, Rikishi, The Rock, SCSA, Randy Orton, Christian, Sheamus, and damn near any other superstar.. all "wrestlers" then you can call Cena one too. Fair enough he's not as talented as a select few, but doesn't stop him being great at what he does, and his heart & determenation isn't matched by anyone in the wrestling business today.
@ImIncapable About those other guys you named, yes, I don't call them wrestlers either. They're sports entertainers; perfect for assholes like Vince Russo.
I no longer follow WWE or TNA. ROH is the only US wrestling company that actually focuses on the wrestling. Sports entertainment is drowning out the actual wrestling action inside the ring, and Cena is a prime example of that.
Imagine going to a football game and seeing 5 minutes of football in a 3 hour game. This is why I only watch ROH.
@CMY187 Cena's not a prime example of that, WWE is. You can't blame the face of the company because of what the company are making him out to be, that's just being narrow minded and ignorant.
ROH would do the same thing that TNA did, get a decent fan following, then start pushing merchandise and implicating storylines, they all get too greedy for there own good, which says more about Americans then the Sports Entertainment industry. It's the same with everything over that side of the pond.
@ImIncapable I understand what you said, and I'll say this about Cena: he tries really hard, he goes on overseas tours, etc, to help his company but in the name of the lord, he Just. Can't. Wrestle. This is why the Hammerstein Ballroom (location of Samoa Joe vs Kenta Kobashi, 2005) crowd hated him so much; they do not respect him as a wrestler. Still, at least Cena's not an asshole like HHH.
Also, I hope that Ring Of Honor does not sell out like TNA did. May that never happen.
What in the world was up with those bright assed yellow pants, Cena? Was that your own idea or WWE's. Perhaps you should've taken it a bit further by getting a big yellow hat and a pet monkey named George.
Heat and Velocity was really good back in the day!

wrestling stink. they exposed too much of the industry and the internet hurt it with all the spoilers. after the finally admitted wrestling was fake and let everyone in on the terms like babyface, heel, kayfabe and blading. a magician is no longer appealing if he shows you how he does all his tricks.
TheShootTruth10 6 months ago
@TheShootTruth10
Lolp821 6 months ago
@TheShootTruth10 Penn and Teller reveal everything and are some of the best magicians in the world. You have to look at it from the right point of view. Yes the outcomes are scripted. It doesn't take away from the athleticism. We all know the Harlem Globetrotters are going to beat the Washington Generals every game. It doesn't make it any less entertaining to watch.

WWE attendance is dropping, their ratings are gradually declining, and their stock is plummeting. NO ONE in this company is drawing money.
Greysockmadman 6 months ago
@Fredster2114 they are mad because wrestling is not like it was when they were kids.
TheShootTruth10 6 months ago
@TheShootTruth10 that is true Some Adults just need to accept that this isnt their Wrestling anymore this is for a brand new generation of Kids who will Tell their kids about Guys like Cena Daniel Bryan Randy Orton those r the Guys looking up to how Kids of the 90's looked up to the Rock And Austin theres TNA and YouTube for thsoe who can't move on and accept the Wrestling the way it is now
jamille5150 6 months ago

Cena's yellow pants are a cryptic way of foreshadowing his future "fruity pebbles" gimmick
gilnnlig 7 months ago

DemonKingMMA 7 months ago
I don't hate Cena, and I accept that he's a decent person who is only doing his job, but to call him a wrestler is an insult to all the others who actually could wrestle.
I've seen Danielson's matches with Samoa Joe, Homicide, Jushin Thunder Liger, KENTA, Takeshi Morishima(Match of the Year 2007), Naomichi Marufuji, Go Shiozaki, Katsuhiko Nakajima, Nigel McGuinness, Austin Aries, etc. He is an incredible wrestler, and Cena cannot be compared to him in that field.
CMY187 8 months ago
@CMY187 How is it an insult? If you can call Triple H, Mark Henry, Rikishi, The Rock, SCSA, Randy Orton, Christian, Sheamus, and damn near any other superstar.. all "wrestlers" then you can call Cena one too. Fair enough he's not as talented as a select few, but doesn't stop him being great at what he does, and his heart & determenation isn't matched by anyone in the wrestling business today.
ImIncapable 8 months ago
@ImIncapable About those other guys you named, yes, I don't call them wrestlers either. They're sports entertainers; perfect for assholes like Vince Russo.
I no longer follow WWE or TNA. ROH is the only US wrestling company that actually focuses on the wrestling. Sports entertainment is drowning out the actual wrestling action inside the ring, and Cena is a prime example of that.
Imagine going to a football game and seeing 5 minutes of football in a 3 hour game. This is why I only watch ROH.
CMY187 8 months ago
@CMY187 Cena's not a prime example of that, WWE is. You can't blame the face of the company because of what the company are making him out to be, that's just being narrow minded and ignorant.
ROH would do the same thing that TNA did, get a decent fan following, then start pushing merchandise and implicating storylines, they all get too greedy for there own good, which says more about Americans then the Sports Entertainment industry. It's the same with everything over that side of the pond.
ImIncapable 8 months ago
