where i will buy the video of Aikido Power and The Basic by Sensei Yoshimitsu Yamada . Is there a part 2. Thanks email at rey_cataga@yahoo.ca God bless.
I think Aikido is fantastic, I've heard so many people talk badly about it I can't say for sure how effective it is. Which is sad, because I think it's a magic art.
I do a style of Ju Jitsu which is totally about practical self defence and we use a number of Aikido techniques, such as the throw Iriminage. My experience is that the Aikido techniques (at least some of them) are very practical. However, a martial art isn't defined only by the techniques but also by the way they train.
In ju jitsu we might train with Aikido techniques but we always put them into a practical context. I believe the main difference between Ju Jitsu and Aikido is that Aikido practice is not centered around practicality- It is a "Do" as opposed to a "Jitsu" (or "jutsu").
Aikido is the exploration and expression of certain principles, with the aim of cultivating "Aiki spirit". People who critisise it's practicallity miss the point. (usually BJJ guys who fail to realise that "shooting in for the double leg take down" isn't always apropriate or effective... I mean it wouldn't be much good on an insane Knife-weilding pensioner would you?
It's important to remeber that there are different styles and some sensei focus more on "art" than "martial". Aikido can be very practical and/or artistic.
I practice Ki-aikido for almost 2 years now, i got 2nd kyu, and I think its great. At the begining, its not that "powerful" since there are alot of things you should look for, like your nagge's ki and never to conflict it. Later on, it gets alot more usefull =)

Mmm, those mats in the video sound very hard, lol! I wonder if they are traditional tatami. Either way, the uke is pro.
