  • I have just built a grand mother clock out of oak. What is a good finish to get the luster from oak. I want to stain it wth dark walnut. Is rub on poly any good?

  • @tkcenterline poly will do fine , a lot of folks use it,

  • @InTheWorkshop so let me understand i would use: 1. prestain 2. oil base walnut stain 3. coat of shellac 1/2# cut. 4. high gloss clear poly.

  • @tkcenterline sounds like a good plan, and should work well, light scuff sand the shellac a little with some 400 or 600 grit paper, to give a little tooth for the poly to bit into

  • Finishing pine can be a real nightmare. Thanks for providing some solutions and sharing your finishing ideas.

  • great information THANK YOU !

  • thanks charles good stuff

  • as usual,super job!!
