My mom recorded this me on BETA, if anyone even knows what that is. lol Totally love this special. Was pissed when my 4 year old brother played around with the BETA max (old VCR kinda) and erased it. Haven't seen it for over 15 years. Thank you!!!
@SpiderAdvocate Know that pain.I got 101 Dalmations VHS for Christmas one year(might have been '92)and my nephew, who was only about a year old at the time, spilled juice on it on it and wrecked it!I have the DVD now,of course, but still....:(
Actually these characters are readily available for kids these days in "Mickey Mouse Clubhouse." It's on every weekday at least twice. Weird that your kid hasn't seen these characters anywhere by the time she's four. Get cable!
ty so much for posting this.. i loved this when i was little i waited for it every christmas and now my 2 year old daughter is a hudge mickey mouse fan.... somethings you just cant give up..... do they ever play it on tv any more and if i wanted to buy this were can i go?
disney is a piece of crap now because of all the stupid shows they air now. i really wish they put the old disney up like micky mouse christmas carol and all the oldies
Thanks for keeping the original intro and not editing it out ... it's half the fun of home taped Christmas specials ... it makes me all warm and fuzzy inside:)
It's so sad, my 4 year old daughter is watching this over my shoulder and she sees Goofy and Donald and asked me, "Mommy who are they?" :( Walt Disney would weep at what has become of his beloved company....
@ruadhrose It's up to you to expose your children to the shorts and feature films that made Disney famous. These characters aren't front-and-center on TV anymore, and when they are it's in an extremely whitewashed, corporate-friendly fashion. Look into acquiring the Disney Treasures DVD sets.
@DTVzone What you said to Ruadhouse is 100% correct. My kids see old school Care Bears movies, Live action Ninja Turtles Movies, Chimpmunks Christmas Carol and stuff like this too.
@ruadhrose That's why if/when I ever decide to reproduce, my kids will only be exposed to old Nickelodeon and Disney shows. And old Sesame Street. Before they started shoving Spanish lessons down our throats.
@ruadhrose I literally almost shed a tear reading this, I hope you followed what DTVzone said, because it's virtually the only way you'd get to see disney's full, uncut shorts these days, the way Walt Disney himself intended. Though I'm honestly still surprised that your daughter doesn't recognize the characters in the least bit, unless you don't get Disney Channel, because I'd imagine at her age she'd be watching the preschool block where Mickey Mouse Clubhouse always comes on.
@ruadhrose I think our generation was really lucky to be exposed to the cartoons/shows like this. Some of the shows on TV now I can't see people coming back and watching as adults... the quality has really gone down.
WOW this reallt took me back, I used to look forward to these when I was little and we only had like 3 channels. Makes me sound old but I'm only 29,we lived in the country. LOL!!
THANK YOU! I once had a tape of this special, but I ran that tape to the ground and I thought I never thought I'd see this special again thank you for uploading a bit of my childhood.
Dude, I REMEMBER That opening! And what's weird is that in 1989, I was only 1 year old! I DO remember the cartoons, though, probably because I saw them multiple times, and also I remember Michael Eisner opening the Magical World of Disney every time. I remember when I DIDN'T use to cringe at the thought of Michael Eisner and Disney...
I had this recorded on VHS when the final segment aired was about Oliver and Company, which was the Disney animated film released right before The Little Mermaid.
I used to watch this show although I did not know enough English at that time. I was at Elementary in Juarez, Mex. The good thing is that I went to Disneyland on summer of 1991
this wasn't where they had the sneak peek of Nightmare Before Christmas after it, was it? Or am I thinking of something different? Because I have that one on tape. Just unearthed it a few weeks ago.
My dad would get us together to watch this every year when I was a kid. I just turned 30 and watched it tonight with my son for the 1st time. Timeless, I love it.
THANK YOU SO MUCH for posting this! I used to have this broadcast in my collection, but I watched it so often that the tape turned to dust before 1992. It's pretty scary how I still have the introductions burned verbatim into my mind.
Nobody does it like Disney! This was and is still my favorite every year!!!! It wouldn't be christmas if i didn't watch this and now i watch it with my kids!!! Love it.
I gotta say, this is probably the best thing I've found on youtube ever, with no hyperbole on my part.
My family is huge on watching these specials every year and one of our favorite was this line up, with these three cartoons. For the longest time, they stopped playing these three in a row so this is great to see.
Who says you can't like all of the above? I'm a big fan of anime, video games, and old Disney cartoons! And I know I'm not the only one or else Kingdom Hearts wouldn't be so popular!
Dude, I saw this... the very same 3 cartoons, the same Eisner intro (albeit edited), and everything else.... except it had that "Wonderful World of Disney/A Disney Special" intro from '92! It was on CBS!
They aired this special several times, the only difference being some of the cartoons before "Mickey's Christmas Carol" and the movie they were promoting in the final segment. In '92, they would've been promoting Aladdin.
