Yes it does include making fun of others. It is FREE SPEECH! You can say what you want as long as you do not threaten the person you are talking to with harm.
The whole problem is people that come from a place of no free speech have a hard time with this concept. They even don't want free speech because they lose control over others when those people are exposed to other ways of looking at things, like your religion.

the true translation is more like "Take not the Jews and the Christians as masters". Many people twist the translation of the Quran to make it say whatever they want. Other aya's in the Quran make it clear that it is ok to have good relationships with peaceful Christians and Jews.

As a native speaker of Arabic I can tell you that wali in Arabic could mean different things (including a protecter guardian, a master, or even a very religios person) depending on context. My understanding and the understanding of most of the Muslims that I know is that this aya does not forbid having Christian or Jewish friends.

The tragic death and the terrible killing of this young woman and her unborn child are truly appallling, and I as a UK non-Muslim woman send heartfelt sympathies to her family. I especially pray for her young, traumatised son.
However: her killer was clearly a mad, deranged person; in my city in UK a pregnant woman was stabbed to death in a street by an unknown mad man too. Very sadly these things happen; let us not make them the cause of hatred between us; that way evil wins. Peace, love

ssnharr, I appreciate your feelings, and yes love should prevail. However, this crime is not dome by a "mad" man, it is done by a racist. What shocks me is that many commenters on youtube or somewhere else condone the crime and even promise to do more, and many politicians are even promoting the atmosphere of hatred that led to the crime. Violence is not a solution; love and peace should and will prevail; but racism should be stopped not promoted.

I agree with ssnharr. When I look at this, I am appalled, but as a woman, I suspect this had as much to do with a man who had difficulties with women as it does with racism. Both were factors I suspect. There's tons of Islamophobia, no doubt about it, but Marwa wasn't deliberately sacrificed by the court or society, they were trying to protect her..
She was in court on an appeal because her assailant had already *been convicted* of insulting her religion...terrible irony.
