Well, you need all them 4 turbo's to get all 1001 PS and keep up with a good engine lifespan. Yes, you can squeeze out 800 from a NA 3.5L engine, but it will take you some 400Km at most to ruin it. The great engineering behind the veyron is not it's raw power, but getting it into a usable, lasting, car. The gearbox has to cope with a non-professional driver on one side and a 1001 PS devil on the other, that's no triviaL thing.

Sad the saleen isn't viewed as the fastest car built. The veyron's top speed is 420km/h and it reaches that in 16 seconds. The other great thing about this car is you dont have to put a kit on it on it to make it compete with other cars. The Saleen can keep trying but it doesn't come close.

handles like an elise... that's why on the 'ring it recorded its best lap in 7.40, 10 secs more than the carrera gt and the zonda F. One of the principal veyron's issues is the acceleration at low rpm (as i've read in 2 magazines), which is slower compared to a Ferrari Enzo or a Mclaren F1.

ive actually seen a Saleen S7 get its ass handed to it by a Ford GT because of the turbo lag in the S7, and the GT has a supercharger, so the power is instant

You don't know what you're talking about. The engine is only the size of a Viper V10 8.0 liters which is only like a 500 cid. Europeans never make their engines very big cause they like to use turbo and superchargers to make power. So yes it can have 16 cylinders by straping 2 8 cylinder engines together.
