@SuperSbeastify. did you use a compatible browser to download firmware? it needs to download as an ispw file or iTunes wont recognize firmware. this method may not work anymore as well. this video is old. I don't have iphone3g anymore. use Firefox to download firmware. then try again. let me know if it works.

@ImplantedAgenda this vid is old. the newest ios versions are jailbreakable. if you are trying to preserve an unlock im sure you can find a vid to help you with that to. did you make sure it downloaded as a ispw file? if you downloaded this with internet explorer it wont work

@ibzs10 if you hurry and update to 4.1 you can use "greenpoison" or "limera1n" to rejailbreak and i believe you 3g can even be jailbroken on the 4.2 as well. this video is old and i cant gauruntee it will work. apple may have stopped signing this software.

@spoman818 hey man i did this a while ago. lost my iphone. now have an itouch though and an hd2. unless apple has blocked it by now it should work on iphone 3g 8gig. thats the only one i did. and it did work. my comments for this vid are mixed. too many versions. but iphone 3g 8gig did work.

@spoman818 yes it worked perfectly. all i did was download the 3.1.2 firmware and then hold shift+restore on itunes. i then selected the 3.1.2 firmware i just downloaded and it restored to 3.1.2. i had a ton of jailbroken apps and what not but after i restored i jail broke it first and then restored to my last saved one. all of my apps were still there but everything was reset.

Hi, i bought a used iphone 3g jailbroken and unlocked so it isnt sync with my itunes. Im having problems with it (running on 3.1.2 and 5.11.07) i have full signal and it wont make or receive calls. And almost all the time, it gives me call failed or no service message after a while. Should i reset it? and how do i back it up if it isnt synced wit my itunes? Help would be greatly appreciated

the blackra1n image appears on my phone, however, thats as far as it will go.. until the whole process is repeated...

*****UPDATE********i have not updated to iTunes 9.0.3 , and was never on 3.1.3 on my iphone 3g. so if you are on a 3gs, or on 3.1.3, or itunes 9.0.3 it may not work. on my 3g running 3.1.2 with the version of itunes befor 9.0.3 it restored me to 3.1.2 with out upgrading to 3.1.3, allowing me re-jailbreak. hope this helps.

You have to go through the apple update server, and it denies the restore

This may not work for 3gs. Will work for 3g. Use this to restore without updating to 3.1.3. If you already updated to 3.1.3 then you may be stuck. If you did and are on a 3g then give it a shot.
