@scudderforthewin........oh my god m8......motown made a stack out of being not only a record label but a genre....it dont matter me old fruit....we'll all be in the residential home , argueing about it.....just enjoy the tunes
Stop all the petty bitching and just enjoy the fact that we all chose this music, celebrate being around others of like mind and stop looking for arguments where they've no need to exist :)
@r2thez612 No. It's just the standard You Tube dislike tax. There's one YT employee who's job it is to hit dislike on every video they can find in 4 hours, punch out for a 1/2 hour unpaid lunch, and then punch back in to do it for another 4. Otherwise, there's just no explaining this. :)
@midgetfista there is a double thing there. Two tone the music is known due to the label holding them as you said. The label got the idea as the bands and the fans were black and white. 2 tone. White people jamming with or to black people. To jamacian music. It was the 70s so racism was high and so it was a breath of fresh air for people to just get along and enjoy somthing.
i'm pretty sure that all this "who's music knowledge penis is bigger than whose" crap is antithetical to the tolerance message pervasive in 2nd wave ska. seriously, i like the music and i don't care what you know or don't about it.
Man am I glad; Ska will never be corrupt, anyone with the dissgusting taste in music will quickly judge Ska and leave it alone, But I cant say the same for punk :(
@floppybollox3@79angelstar debatable, although it was one influence of ska, the music that was released off 2 tone had a much more punk rockesque, harder sound too it and was definitely different to that ska that came from the 1949 immigration of west indians and jamaicans. so 2tone in it's own right can definitely be seen as a genre aswell.
@79angelstar Angelstar is right... at least according to the 1983 Committee on Sub-Genre Safety (CSGS) held at Versaille. When the committee did their 1999 retrospective panel there was some opposition to their initial ruling, but it was quickly overturned.
@scudderforthewin 2 Tone is a recognized genre. The second wave of ska with most of the bands being The Selector, Madness, The Specials, The Beat, The Bodysnacthers, etc... who were signed to 2 Tone records. 2 Tone was the revival of ska from the 60s.
@Balabok no it isn't! it's just 2nd wave ska! first of all, it's spelt the selecter. Madness were signed to 2 tone for one single only (the prince), they went to stiff after that. and First wave ska was the 50's not the 60's. i earn most of my money playing Ska songs in a cover band, this being one of the songs. i know my ska!
you gotta go and let wikipedia know they open with the article and I quote
'2 Tone (or Two Tone) is a music genre'
dont take my word for it- type it in
you're the weakest link. goodbye ;D
Why so many dickheads posting? "skinheads can suck it" (who says suck it?) 2tone not a genre ? flagging live dates FOR SELECTER as spam? have US brats and brat-adults just discovered 2tone or something?
@maximisatwat oh wikipedia? because everything off wikipedia is true. what would i know about ska/ two tone? oh the fact i'm in a ska band that plays two tone covers.
@maximisatwat YOu're one of those guys who looks everything up on wikipedia and then walks around acting like your sooooo knowledgable about everything aren't you? Get over yourself and how much you think you know.
2 tone just meant style of ska that went with the black-white fashionsynonymous with that music at the time. the colours were in part linked with scootering, in part reflected the black-white sound, and in part just looked cool. sorry guys, grew up with selecter specials and madness - long before wikipedia
the music was written against the backdrop of a half-racist 100% mixed up england in recession
@flachi32 ~ Well you're going to have to wait seated, because the Industry already raped that nice genre. All we can do is tune in to these legendary songs.
