Im just getting into the MSX games, Nice looking boxed collection. I've just won a game called Sparkie, not a shmup but it looks okay, msx games seem to be hard to come by. The Boxed R Type especially. Would love toget some more msx shmups.
That's great with regards to getting into the msx games - Sparkie is a great little maze game developed by Konami & released by Sony - I still need to pick that up :) I've won some more msx games on ebay, 4 unboxed Carts & about 20 boxed tape games. Thanks again mate :)
@1msx2go Looking forward to seeing what your carts are. I recently bought Avenger (Way of the Tiger) but it seems like a lazy Spectrum port, I like the Speccy, but I want games that show the MSX and what it can do.
@atombat The MSX is certainly able to do a lot more than the speccy & I do also like the speccy, but sadly most taped based games were just lazy speccy ports. Actually, Avenger wasn't a bad game quite enjoyed to be honest :)
Is it worth collecting for the MSX? How much are the systems and games? Difficult to get? What about the games can most be played without japanese reading ability?
@Lorfarius Difficult Question :D It's a great machine for me, because I grew up with it - loads of good memories. It got me into japanese gaming long before sega nintendo...Xmas 83 - to be exact. It's worth looking into & stick with konami games (£10-£15) & there's some really good cassette games. (£2-£8) However games like Contra, Parodius, Metal Gear & Space Mambow can sell between £60-£150. most games have english text. As for the MSX - Which one? MSX, MSX2, MSX2+ or MSX Turbo. £30- £300
@UKRetroGames Thanks very much for the nice comment :D Yeah, I know - I did cheat a little by using the PSP... basically easier setting up when doing the odd gameplay vid & also - being my old time favourite computer, it's nice to know I can play msx games anywhere... bus, work, inlaws place :D Will start doing gameplay vids on the MSX soon. Thanks again mate :D BTW which games did you get?
@JustCause2Club Many thanks mate, MSX tape games are very cheap to get hold off betwwen £2 to £9. Cartridges can go from £8 to 30 - but some japanese titles like Space Mambow, Metal Gear 1 & 2, Contra & Vampire Killer (Castlevania) all konami titles can go for £100 to £170
do you own the FM PAC?
