Tghe lyrics is, of course, different, without any mention of Communism etc., but it was written by the same person - Sergey Mihalkov (1913-2009).
I love both countries' anthems. This is the national anthem to the North American Soviet Union we call "Russada". Come there if you like long winters, hockey, and Sidney Ovechkin.

Well, they really only sound the same. If you try to sing the lyrics of O'Canada with that part of the Russian anthem, you loose track of the tune at 1:01.
This is just a coincidence if anything. The writer of O'Canada, Calixa Lavallée, never actually ventured to Russia to hear the anthem. Also, knowing Francophone Canadians, they would object to the playing of this anthem. Partly because of France's loss in the Napoleonic Wars against Russia.

@61741467 No worries, mate. I'm Canadian, and the stereotypes only hold true to a select minority of our populace. Most of us live like a lot of Americans do, just in a particularly colder climate. But we do rival eachother in many ways. In the end, we both have strengths and weaknesses as separate nations, but together we make a good alliance.

Well, they really only sound the same. If you try to sing the lyrics of O'Canada with that part of the Russian anthem, you loose track of the tune at 1:01.
This is just a coincidence if anything. The writer of O'Canada, Calixa Lavallée, never actually ventured to Russia to hear the anthem. Also, knowing Francophone Canadians, they would object to the playing of this anthem. Partly because of France's loss in the Napoleonic Wars against Russia.
It may seem hard to comprehend, but it can happen.
