I loved Burlesque because I found that young teens would be influenced in a better manner than I expected and the story def. had a moral or two about life. I thought there were some great performances, and some of the solos were fantastic. I must admit when first hearing of the type of movie it was going to be for CHER & Christina, cuz let's face it they are BEAUTIFUL; I was afraid it would be raunchy.

@selty The difference with this one is that even with the death of a parent, Ali (Aguilera) is not broken or lacking in self-confidence or self-assurance. She comes in with all guns firing, she believes in herself and her talent and abilities, the fact she has no parents takes a backseat to her ambition and drive. We need more inspirational gals like this in movies!! No more insipid dancers who need a love interest to believe in them before they can believe in themselves.

I think the fact still stands that yet another dance/music movie uses the dead mother/father concept. Now, I am judging this from all the clips and trailers, but from a glance it seems this way, and I personally don't like it. Tbh this movie in general seems quite weak... again, though, that's just my opinion.

@selty It's a dance movie. Can you really expect great plot? I know I didn't go in with high expectations for award-winning drama, I expected to have fun. And it was a LOT of fun, with some witty script which was pleasantly surprising. Sure, the cheese is there, and yeah the whole "dead parents" thing is a little bit overdone; but as I said, it wasn't a focal point of the film. I HAVE seen it, not just trailers, too.
