When I was young, the Phantom movie made then depicted the phantom as a hideous old man whose face was like a gaunt skeleton. Scary. This Andrew Lloyd Webber version has incredible music and lyrics. It is extremely seductive and brilliant. Gerard Butler is such a handsome, virile Phantom. His character is hypnotic. What girl wouldn't fall under his spell. I get goose bumps just listening to this music and watching him and the way he nearly possessed her mind and body...wooh! Good stuff.

What I love most about this version if the song is that the Phantom's voice is mostly straight tone, so it sounds less operatic and a bit more rock. :) I wish someone doing the play would do it like this.

I love Sarah Brightman and Michael Crawford, but there is something about Emmy Rossum and Gerard Butler. It might be the instruments. The heavy organ in the first 15 seconds, the guitar in the last verse. All of it is wonderful.

She is Heaven and he is Divine. A classic film beautiful and emotive. Gerard Butler is a fantastic actor and seems to have an unusual spirituality in his acting and singing. He is wonderfully charismatic and having met him I can say that he is an caring and sweet person. Good luck Gerry you deserve it.

To rip material off a DVD with the Windows Media Player requires more software than I have installed on my computer, and it's not something I've done before, so I wouldn't know where to start. I'm not exactly sure what you're asking.

I used a handheld DV5060 Traveler digital video camera, set up in front of a widescreen computer monitor, because I haven't figured out how to just rip the footage directly off the DVD. But the results have been surprisingly good so far. What specifically do you want help with?

The movie version isn't bad... but it's so overplayed. The music is just "overcrowded". I like this, but still this is kind of "easy listening" version. The original theatre version is so much better, but I guess seeing it live gives it more strength. So the "easy listening" version suits for the film fans.

I agree that a baritone, rather than a tenor, is more fitting, because of the sort of roles that baritones are given in most operas...the darker, more dangerous character that you're not quite sure of...but I don't know that he needs to be an "operatic" baritone. I frankly like the more raw edge in Gerard Butler's singing voice.

*sigh* Yes, she does. She was trained at the Metropolitan Opera as a child. Those are her high notes. Minnie Driver was the only one who got her singing dubbed (as Carlotta) in the whole movie.
