Seriously, you believe the U.S. or any other government would target people who's voice couldn't harm them less? Assassinations are political targets, not for commoners speaking out against governments. Jail maybe. Targets for assassination, extremely, extremely, extremely far fetched.

@javelina100 Unfortunately, history's on my side on this one. The U.S. is much more sophisticated in terms of letting people blow off steam and finding ways to divert their anti-government sentiment in ways that actually help them, but if someone was actually effectively challenging the government, like Julian Assange, death is not unlikely.

Many military dictatorships backed by the CIA waged dirty wars of torture and mass murder of political dissidents, free thinkers, and charity workers.

@javelina100 I know it sounds far-fetched and it sounds like crazy conspiracy theories (and those bug me too) but what frightens me is how much our society is leaning toward fascism, and the fact that so many things that we've imposed on our neocolonies (look up neocolonialism) are now coming home to the U.S. The U.S. has been splitting other nations into a rich oligarchy ruling over a poor slave class for decades, but now it's happening at home. The fascism that makes it possible may as well.
