me too ... started at 15 , the palace hotel rhyl ... and travelled far and wide to any club that we heard played soul ... lucky , i had friends with cars .. it was in those early days i first heard this track , not sure where i heard this first but who cares , its brilliant ...its now more than 40 years on and time to enjoy and look back on very fond memories of a very friendly and enjoyable time ... thanks for posting ... This is the last comment I will be making on this page and indeed on Youtube due to aggresive negative comments. I am well into my fifties and started going to soul clubs at the age of 15. I don't brag (like some on hear) about where I went or how long ago - I am just glad that I was part of such a wonderfull scene.
To all it may concern. I am well aware that many records played at Wigan had indeed been played before at other clubs. When and where someone attended allnighters I don't think is important. How sad that some people who listen to Northern Soul on Youtube think they are better than others because they went to allnighters (or so they think) before anyone else did!
@child1959 Until fairly recently, the history of the Northern Soul scene was spread largely by word of mouth, so I happen to think it's important to correct the endless stream of false information I read on Youtube and elsewhere. If it "doesn't matter" where it was first played (and by and large it doesn't much), why get so annoyed when I point out that it wasn't ACTUALLY Wigan Casino, huh?
Just try and get your damned facts right, and all will be well. :-)
Glad you got the message - that I (and many others) are equally "bored" with Wigan Casino latecomers claiming earlier clubs' records on internet forums... Just so you know we're here...
Ironically, this monster classic was actually the B-side. The A-side was A Time To Love, A Time To Cry, his late 1965 vocal cover of Chris Barber's instrumental, Petite Fleur. But this flip side - wow - it simply does not get any better than this. One of the most perfect records ever made in any genre, period.
@MrJanesaddiction One of the first tunes I memorised on my first visits to the Casino - just had to get it - took along time as they were just breaking it. Still one of my favourites and listen to it regulary!
They weren't "just breaking it" at the Casino 'child1959', since it had already been a massive spin in mid-1973, several months before Wigan Casino opened. "Unsatisfied" was played extensively at the Catacombs on UK London, and I don't recall it still being played by September, even at Wigan. The playing of 'old spins' (even of a few months earlier) was most unusual at that time.
@child1959 Shouldn't have used the word breaking as I knew it had been played at Clubs before. Definatly on the regular Saturday night play list in the main hall in early 76 and played for some time. Thanks for the information anyway.
Love this song ,my mates Wilky and rug had a version with their own lyrics, they will know what I mean but it was brilliant.
