140mph with 3.73 gears without an overdrive tranny is only around 6,500 - 6,600rpms.

Back in my younger days I would push past the 8,000rpm mark in my built 71 SS454 Monte Carlo with 3.73 gears hitting the 170mph mark. Talk about some white knuckled driving !
