some people do need the surgery, it's just not everyone can afford it. Excavatum is closely linked to other bone and heart problems like mitros valve and marfan syndrome, some more severe than others. Everyone's different and needing surgery really depends on how you feel it's affecting you. I would have liked to have the surgery to fix mine, but my parents didn't support that because of money. Funnel chest spikes my metabolism too so I can't gain weight, until my shoulder's broaden (maybe)
I too have Pectus Excavatum. Not just as deep in, tho. It have caused no problems physically, although i have felt awkward about it.
Until one day.. I got a compliment on how muscular my pecs was, and how often i excercise. I answered that i don`t really excercise much, maybe once a week, and well, it made me get over it. Sometimes it actually makes you look more buff. And i watched your last video, take 1, and didn`t actually notice before you went side-view. ;)
Before anyone freaks out about this and wants to get the surgery, i have the exact same thing as him same exact position, depth, and shape as far as i can tell and i have absolutely no problems with it. I swim, jog, and bike too. So just because you have it doesnt mean that its a big deal and it needs to be fixed
Is your name really Ass Vac? Anyways, I have PE and it sucks. I get tired so easily and chest pains and murmurs at times. I can't do sports anymore. The surgery is like 35,000 to 40,000. A lot of insurance companies don't want to cover it either. They say it.s cosmetic. They have no idea how bad this thing feels.
You're the imaginative, creative and articulate person I always knew. I notice that your videos are a very good form of ventilation and expression for yourself. Keep going - they're also quite entertaining.
You have much to be proud of and you've accomplished quite a lot. An indent in your chest discredits none of that.
If I were you, I wouldn't even waste money on surgery.
If you really wanted to, you could hypertrophy your chest muscles :P. Your funnel chest will make your pecs seem larger - also taking attention off of your indent.
In all honesty, from cousin to cousin..Obviously, it's noticeable. I look at your chest, I see an indent. Remember we are all our own worst critique. No one is going to point and laugh. Considerate your mark of uniqueness. Because you ARE.
I had the surgery for it . my chest looked just like yours and they sent me to doctor to doctor , its been a year now ui got the nuss procedure where the put bars in . any questions man send me messages i went threw the same thing ide love to help .
My doctor says the same thing everything I go for a check-up.. some people say that the insurance DON'T WANT TO PEOPLE with these disorders to KNOW it's actual repercussions...
If you live in Canada, talk to your family doctor and tell him or her that you want to see a chest specialest, they will refer you to one, the nuss procedure is common, its free and you can be on the table within 2 months.
But yeah, I'm not exactly sure if this is pectus excavatum, but if you took your hand and placed it on my chest, and slid down, you can feel the gap. So... I don't know if it's pectus excavatum b/c as I've said, my lower ribs stick out, but at the same time, after working out, I feel like I need to yawn and then rest.
I'm 15 and I don't think I really have the same symptoms. My lower ribs stick out and it makes me look like I have a pot belly. But you can still see my 4 pack, XD. I'm pretty active like you are, been involved in martial arts for 2 years (close to 3) and every time I practice, I would feel like I need to yawn because I feel like I can't breathe after a rigorous workout. But, I've never fainted or knocked out before. Also, you can actually see my heart beat, but it doesn't look that severe.
I got the same problem as you man going to the hospital in a week or so to check out my lungs, heart ect... they said in the doctors though that i should try and workout upper body workouts and it might just slowly come out.
Im active a lot but i believe that it causes me to not be able to run long distances and then i have migranes...Im 15 and all my friends think its the coolest thing.
@funelboy uhh well mine isnt that bad but i do get short of breath faster than normal and when i stand up fast i get really lightheaded other than that not much else :)
its pronounced pectus ex-cu-vaw-dumb but thats not how its spelled, its spelled pectus excavatum, and i have it as well i have a severe case of it
