Christian response: GAWD DOESN'T HAVE TO SAVE YEW!!! YEW DESERVE TO GO TO HELL!! IT'S AMAZING THAT HE SAVES ANYONE!!! WHO ARE YOU TO QUESTION GOD, YOU FITLY, WRETCHED, PIECE OF SHIT SINNER??!!111111ONEONEONE
Yahweh, the bipolar deity. One minute it loves you, the next it destroys all but 8 people. It then sends people into a land to become slaves, only to show its power to kill newborns. It punishes humans throughout the Bible, only to decide to send its son down to die for our 'sins' that was meant for the redemption of humanity before humanity was created. No wonder the Abrahamic beliefs are so divided, their god can't even make up its mind.
In my early years I had a christian indoctrination by my parents, however they made clear I had a choice. As it turned out I never really belived the Bible was more than just stories, which I think they figured it out pretty. Years have passed and their church attendence have declined to a neglectible level, so I figured it was time for me to finally confront them.
Now I ask myself "why?". Did I expect to convert them? Not really. All I accomplished was to hurt their feelings and feel like shit.
@TheLivirus- Damn, I'm in the same situation I haven't told my folks either! Ive been an atheist for almost a year now, mind you I'm in a black famliy it's ALWAYS ''LAWD THIS, LAWD THAT'' and god did this and that! I tell you it GETS FUCKING annoying! I am almost at a breaking point, I'm not saying it's not fun or easy going around in complete silence, hiding how you truly feel but it does get damned tiring.
@honeyblossom17 Then you're in a worse seat than I am, or was. My parents are very passive about their religious nowadays. This led me to the false belief that they were now receptive to my views. Though I suspect this has more to do with that they feel a strong need to defend the views of their past, than that they still genuinelly belive. My advice is that you stay passive, unless you're prepared for the social consequences an outspoken stance would mean.
@honeyblossom17 - I'm black also and grew up in a very religious family. I was never Christian, but I had developed my own kind of beautiful spirituality. That all came crashing down at the age of 17 upon deep contemplation of the past vast existence of dinosaurs compared to that of man. Prior to the crash, with the spirituality I had created, I could at least say that I believed in God. Immediately upon professing otherwise, I was looked upon as a God-forsaken alien. Never felt happier. :)
@BigMTBrain@Honeyblossom17 Black as well - I had been a good "belief in belief person" for years! Apparently, I said something that wasn't quite "Christian" and the suspicion was presented to my mother - who asked me did I believe...the answer was no...that was more or less the end of it with a special "intervention" that came later by my aunt...who stopped when seemed to realized that she really couldn't press forward and be in sync with her claims of valuing "thinking for yourself".
@honeyblossom17 You aren't the only one. I'm the only atheist (that I know of) in my family (black on my mother's side, the only side I know). I know no one I could discuss religion, science, politics, and etc with without an invocation of 'Goddit' or the world will end, my family are Jehovah's Witnesses. Don't ask how I didn't turn out like them.
@HybridD91- ''I know no one I could discuss religion, science, politics, and etc with without an invocation of 'Goddit' or the world will end''
Glad to hear that, and glad to know that I'm not the only one besides me and my younger cousin. But you want to know something funny, she became an atheist BEFORE me!
Another beautiful video! Your videos are always the first ones I show to people when they ask for atheist material. Looking forward to your future work. =)
Yup, ask a christian why they choose their religion over any other? It's supposed to be the most important choice after all.
Ask them if its possible that there is no god, if its all made up? Turn Pascals wager upside down for them: if there is no god when one dies then then would a christian have missed his/her one and only chance of living life to the fullest ?
All these questions should make them think. I think, as we go deeper into the information age, religion will fade away.
what baffles me. we live in the information age. through the mediums of tv and the interwebs. there is very little information nowadays that is not readily available. so how the hell does the swiss cheese that is religion hold its own. even if ya had it drummed into you as a child. you would eventually say"em hang on a minute. what". what baffles me even more is the bullshit ppl do to promote there piece of swiss cheese and say that there piece is the most solid of blocks.
@TheLeseMaxwell As a former die hard Christian, I can tell you that once you have faith, you unconsciously let yourself gloss over the doubts and questions. Constant reinforcement and social pressure (as in, every sunday) serve to normalize these beliefs and make them seem right. In that setting, many simply become comfortable and will ignore and suppress their own questions and doubts until they don't even consciously know they're there.
Making up gods is easy, just indoctrinate children to believe whatever you want, tell them non believers are trying to decieve you from the one true path, tell them to spred the word and threaten them with devine punishment. Viola! they will teach it to their kids and any other desperate vunerable person. Bam! a religion is born. Over time if it starts to fade, spice it up with a part 2 full of miracles and testamonies, fullfilling promises made in part 1. Oh ya dont forget about the money!
@ozweblogs Indeed. Like any made up lie - the more detailed it is - the faster you will inevitably include contradictory information.
It's not very hard to realize really. Just look at large works of fiction - like the canon of popular comic super heroes. Multiple people adding to a large cannon over time = flaws crop up. In comics they deal with stuff like this with a "retcon". Anyone who thinks this didn't occur in the bible too are just naive to the extreme.
@23Tev Are you kidding me? It is an excellent way to become an Atheist but that book is almost 1300 page long. Watching several videos here on Youtube is MUCH faster, although maybe not quite as effective.
Some brilliant stuff here! Glad Notinmyname2050 liked this video from his twitter account! Hope you get lots of views. I think the music, (great as it is) might be a bit distracting for some viewers. But all in all, a great video. Loved the arguments and questions!
