Once you see evolution as creation happening there is no conflict. Now as for intelligence and design, this is perception. If one sees nature as incapable of intelligence or design then design and intelligence can not exist. Complexity of synaptic activity means neither intelligence or design. It is the causal effect of natural forces through the ongoing process of evolution.
How one looks at something determines what one sees.
Wait! How does he do a good job hiding his chrisitianity saying God is proven by the very science he condemns for not accepting that God exists? I've sat through his lectures in person and on video. I've not heard him say God is proven. I have heard him say science doesn't prove anything. It observes evidence and postulates possible conclusions. I know for a fact he does not believe in ID. And he never states what he belives per se, only what scientists have observed and theorized.
I think we DO need a radical shift in the way we look at science, the way we look at nature, and the Universe around us. I wish so many of us weren't so afraid to seek truth--reality--and didn't feel so threatened by guys like this who help us apply all of what we've learned so far about the universe, and not just what we feel most comfortable with. This is stuff that is, unfortunately, too far outside-the-box for many people to accept.
he does a good job hiding his Christianity...I went to his lecture and he starts off saying god is proven by the laws of physics...he then condemns science for not accepting that God might exist...his whole lecture is religiously based...he quote mines bad science all over the place and then suggests that the universe is human centered for us...he is a smart guy that believes weird things...he is an ID guy...he says that god exists right at the beginning, that evolution does not the needed data
Interesting Video, I watched the whole vid but I'm still not sure what exactly Andy Fletcher believes in. Is he a creationist or a evolutionist? I get the impression that he is anti-science but I could be wrong. Would like to see more, does anybody know if there are similar videos that go a little more in depth about the subject? Anyway Nice Post, Thanks......
Sure he does (I'm him) - Steve Gould, Rocks of Ages, science and religion should stay away from each other. The biologists seem to think so, but the physicists don't all agree. Too much in physics and cosmology point to something going on out there. Religion is irritating mostly, but the God question is still open. Take a good look at Hoyles opinion about Big Bang - he despised it because it sounded like Genesis. Maybe so, but it's the only explanation we have with evidence.
@raponte1955 You're showing a bit of ignorance here. Religion and science are incompatible because they use different methodologies. Science employs methodological naturalism, which can't measure the super-natural. And religion employs faith, which corrupts sciecne.

Andy Fletcher certainly understands what he's talking about...and I'm fairly certain he knows how to spell "Magisteria" to boot ;)

@Scrapheap71 There's no such thing in the world. Science and religion will always be comingled.Religion>Science:Science>Religion.
