  • Damn this is good stuff

  • I didn't know this is what they looked like. Poor styling killed this band - they should have gone more J&MC instead of Breathe.

  • @kirkyo99 Would you be saying this if Dracmar Zyleth had portained them?

  • Nice very nice wow I love this song I also had this on c tape lost it many many years ago . What was the LP name Native Son .

  • @88redsand the LP was called 'native place' x

  • fukin tune

  • classic classic music. makes me feel so happy

  • I remember going to see them in Glasgow. Great gig and then they took me and my mate with them to see Lenny Kravitz play the Mayfair (now the Garage) Top blokes!

  • I remember liking this, and thinking it would get to No.1, and that they'd be around for a couple of years. It stalled at 24, and that was it! Shame.

  • Unbelievably, this gem only peaked at #24. And now there's Lady GaGa. What the fuck happenend?!

  • Happy Happy days

  • just been reminiscing brill track but check out hipsway

  • @mishuk2 another vastly underrated band,So much good music came out around this time

  • This reminds me of an old boyfriend but I still love the song. Great.....

  • Pure Class

  • Probably because the song is almost 20 years old, and Railway Children were kind ofa 1 hit wonder bakc then.

  • massive massive tune..

  • Went to school with bass guitarist Brian Bateman ( Edmud Arrowsmith, Ashton-in-Makerfield, Nr Wigan )

  • Great band Wish they would of taken off here in the US.

    also played on

    WAVT The Progressive edge.

  • Wow I had never heard of this song or band until I looked through the list of number 1 modern rock songs on wikipedia and wanted to hear all the songs I didn't know. This song is soo catchy. I love it! I agree with many of the other comments too, the lead singer is a total cutie ;)!

  • Such a fantastic song

  • Gary's face in every bloody frame. Brian Bateman was the talent.

  • good rhythm guitarist

  • but what a nice face he has, that Gary!

  • face like a bus though

  • It probably says a lot for the quality of young males in the Wigan area in the mid eighties that both Gary and Brian were considered to be seriously good-looking. Especially compared to me.

  • great song!!!

  • This song is so great; a bit sad and happy at the same time. It reminds me of my lost youth, my 20s. The lead singer is so handsome

  • Great melody, great Rickenbacker guitars, good lyrics, good looking guys. Why they had no success?

  • it was criminal this great catchy song never made the top 10

  • KROQ 106.7 Los Angeles

  • When I'm bummed and driving my car (in the US) I get a weird emotion of both being happy and sad at the same time. But it's a good sad and a great feeling of hope.

The video is even great. That chic is a babe.

I'd like to see this song one day in a movie.

  • such a great fucking song.

  • The singer is BEAUTIFUL! He has the most captivating eyes and I love his voice. What a great band they were. Thanks for posting

  • A fabulous track. This is music with passion and meaning - something the majority of today's "singers" know nothing about.

Maybe one day I'll understand why this band were never destined for much bigger things than they got. I haven't understood for the last 18 years, but maybe one day I'll understand...

  • Christ, not heard this for years!!

What a band. Had a pint with Gary Newby once after a gig in Bolton. Top bloke. I'm off to Amazon right now to buy it. I feel 20 again!!!

  • This is 400 Zillion times better than anything in the current chart yet it never made the Top 10 at the time.

  • I met one of the lads while working with a uk pharma company a few years ago. nice bloke and some great stories of the road in the states. he didnt seem all that upset that it hadnt worked out and that he had sold his soul like the rest of us to the corporate devil!

  • Oh Happy Days!!!!!...never got the recognition they deserved, wonder if Gary's still as easy on the eye...probably fat n bald now...*sighs*...too many pies i expect

  • Wigans 2nd best ever group, they never quite had the fan base. But they did some great songs. This prob their finest. When i first went on you tube couple years ago, I looked up this song. i was so chuffed when it first got posted.

  • Wow!! I thought I was the only one on the planet who knew how good these guys were. My most favorite song is Over and Over by them. Too bad there wasn't a video for that song.

  • there is ill try and post it soon..

  • Yes I haven't seen that one and 'Somewhere South'

  • one of the fun bands of the late 80's then just Vanished, I still play the this song on my iPod

  • Didn't really like them in the 80's. I was really wrong. This is a great song...though it has to be said, age....matures some music.

  • What a tune !! Ive been looking for this for months ! Being a 90's child I sure can remember this....

  • One of my all time favorites... I have a cassette single of it; would listen to it in my car back in high school. Beautiful song.

  • I miss this song.

  • What a classic from 1990!

This is how a great song should sound!

  • Recuerdos del catálogo de musica de Rock-101, radio México. una rola cool!

  • when i hear this song i just think...wow one of my all time fav tracks,,,just dont make music like they use to

  • Gary Newby (singer) is married and living in Japan. He is a producer/writer for Japanese pop bands. In his spare time he works on Railway Children songs - but the rest of the band is long gone. He fills out his sound with Japanese friends/musicians. He is a truly gifted songwriter.

  • His last album(A gentle sound) of acoustic Railway covers is absolutely superb. According to the Children site hes working on publishing sheet music for his songs

  • I saw them at Maxwells in Hoboken, NJ!! Great band!!

  • i was at the same show; the one with the heart throbs on the bill. it was brilliant! xx

  • Ohhhh... cool ! I love this song ! I recorded a little clip of it off the radio back in 1990... and then forgot all about it until recently. What a treat to see the video !! Thank you !!

  • Ah I saw these boys live lots of times they were fantastic. The Did a great gig at the Bluecoat in Liverpool years back, the acoustics were wonderful, I predicted big things , but Im not sure what happened. Great guitar pop. Recurrence is a fine album

  • There are a lot of great bands from early 90`s that we never see again, is a shame....

  • wow...how many memories..i still remember when i saw for first time this video on MTV 120 minutes.. Then they played it for a while.. I got the cd and followed th eband for a while..but suddenly they disappeared. Heard it was Virgin record's fault.

Any news from them recently? I saw on Itunes a Live acoustic album

  • Excellent song, have it on 12" vinyl single and also the album, love it. thx

  • very nice!! do u have any kind of video of "because"?

  • "Every Beat Of The Heart" by The Railway Children peaked at No.1 on Billboard Modern Rock Tracks back in 1990. Nice song.

    Ferdinand from Laguna, Philippines

  • 106.7 KROQ Los Angeles played this in 1991, but they have not played it since. exception here

  • Have this Cassette, thanks for posting

  • listened to this at Santa Monica Place 1990 spring

  • Thanks for uploading this video...trully one of the best bands.

  • but unfortunately, they left factory after the first album to sign with virgin who utterly destroyed their career.

  • I believe the woman in this video is also in the video for 'I Owe You Nothing' by Bros. Harlot.

  • bit of trivia for ya... did you know that the railway children were under the factory records people? same people who owned the hacienda and managed Happy Mondays, Joy Division, New Order, OMD and other top manchester bands. Tony Wilson's the bloke. cheers

  • THANK YOU! Been searching for this video a long while.

Anyone remember how much cooler a 120 Minutes host Kevin Seal was than Dave Kendal?

  • ....sigh...120mins...Cheers!

  • Christ yes. That is such a superb album. I hope he does another, as its been a few years since it came out

In the meantime is played in another key on that album (if you're trying to play it on guitar)

  • No word on a release for the videos at the website for the group..

  • Amazing what shows up on Youtube, Pete Mitchell used to play this on Key 103 and I bought it on 12" single
