He told me that, no, he didn't cheer Germany's defeat, but that very definitely Germans in the 1939-45 war, were fighting under the wrong flag. In other words, the Nazi cause made Germany's defeat no altogether unfortunate. That's as far as he woud go. I would go further, and I have met many Germans who were glad to cheer Nazi Germany's defeat. The Germans were Hitler's greatest victims.

@Keenkiller I dont think you are right about this, but there are some odd counter-indications. For example, Heidrich's mother was Jewish. Hitler and Himmler knew about this. It didn't bother them. There was Roehm and his gay entourage. Hitler, the pillar of bourgeois morality, knew about that too and did nothing about it. The Night of the Long Knives was prompted by his wish to satisfy the Army leaders on the eve of succeeding Hindenburg. But I think he was mad from the start anyway.

They became rougher and nastier by the time the war broke out, and of course during the war they let all restraint fade away, especially with those they had been brainwashed into despising as "inferior" people. Hitler wanted a warrior society, whose soldiers reserved their sensitive side for home and hearth and were merciless killers every where else.

@88dragons88 I had the honour of knowing a Polish officer who escapted via Rumania to Palestine. His father, also an officer, surrendered to the Russians and was thrown into prison. When Hitler invaded the USSR, he was summoned and asked which part of the front he wanted to serve on. After the war, he became a Polish trade official and on his first trip abroad, he defected. So not all Polish officers were killed. Those who were selected--as payback to the Polish schlachta for many reasons.

His doctor had written down that his patient had gotten syphilis from a German Jewish prostitute in 1908 prior to WWI. This could have fueled his anger towards the Jews. He was in the LATE stages of the sickness and refused to get treatment because he called it a "JEWS DISEASE." So, yes, he was crazy. He was freakin nuts and this disease made it worse.
