The difference is, hecklers are actually fucking with people while they're producing the product. There is a reason the old "I don't come to where you work and bother you" line is such a common comeback on the stage. It's beyond rude. If you don't like a performer then don't pay money to see a show and then disturb it, no matter who it is. i think all the confusion here is involved with semantics. Carlin was a good comedian, though perhaps not the best. but his wit, not comedy, was his most enthralling asset.
comedy makes you laugh now if you hear or see it now, like The Three Stooges. witty, truthful, and sometimes hilariously painful commentary on society may take a while to hit you, but wit trumps "comedy."
