sounds like the compressor in my neighbours toshiba window rattler aircon, just as noisy, bloody thing keeps me awake of a night even though its about 15 metres away and on the other side of the house. the ac unit is at least 27 years old and they leave it on till about 2am!
That it dose!, much of it comes from the intake gas passing through the reed valves in the head. The sealed housing eliminates 90% of the noise these compressors make.
You can also reduce the noise of a conventional air compressor by ducting the intake to the outside of the building in is used in.

@atomrocketcar you can make a lot of money scrapping them if you have the time, equipment and a good supply of old compressors.

Healthy AC comp oil should be clear, with similar viscosity to light motor oil.
Well used oil looks amber in color and is comparable to new motor oil color.
After a mechanical failure the oil will usually be metallic gray from all the metal particles suspended in it.

Unfortunately, all Kirby compressors are made nowadays by Kulthorn-Kirby Ltd. in Thailand.

that thing is off its head. it would be good a a/c unit.lol

it looks dry of oil, maybe they keep the oil and scrap the compressor already dry
HDXFH 2 years ago
it was full of oil when I got to it, legally they ahve to drain the oil before putting a compressor in the scrap bin. but very few do it.

you should go and offer to service it for them and charge $110. that might make every one happy.

Next time i get a 250lb Danfoss-Maneurop compressor I'l video it before I scrap it.
I narrowly missed a pallet load of them - new in wrap, at the local scrap yard but somebody else got in before me.
