Do you think this TNF Venture jacket paired with a good fleece layer could hold up against -2 Degrees Celsius?

Take a closer look at those pockets inside the jacket. They're not good pockets except for larger items. There is a small hole on the side seam where the mesh meets the shell that allow small items to fall right out. I've had this jacket for a couple years and I love it. Even in fairly heavy rain it's great.

The inside mesh pockets are not pockets as there is a gap at the bottom, nearly lost some gear when i first put this on, also the peak in the hood when not worn can keep touching the back of your head so has to be folded somemore.

I just got this jacket, it rocks! Very waterproof for me. The left hand pocket is a stow pocket also. Just turn it inside out and stuff the jacket into it and zip it up.

Why do they leave a gap at the end of the inside pockets? I noticed this on my Venture.

I bought a red North Face Jacket today but I was in a rush and when I got home and tried it out I found it to be very dissapointing on a basic level. Yes its Gor-tex bla bla bla but the pockets for your hand are way too high up the jacket and the zip goes from the top to bottom which made even less sense considering how high the pockets came up to. That means when it rains I'll be in an uncomfortable position with my arms and I'll have rain pouring in from the top.

i have read many negative reviews on this jacket, in particular that it is NOT waterproof. what is your own opinion on it?

I think the jacket is fine for light to medium rain. However if you're going to be in heavy downpour I'd go with a full-on gore-tex shell.

The trade off is between water-resistance vs. weight and comfort. It'll depend on what environment you want it for.

@jumpthemap I heard H2NO is just as waterproof as Gore-Tex but not as breathable. What do you think of the Patagonia Shadow rain jacket for heavy downpours? I read the rating for Goretex and H2NO is 65 psi and Hyvent is 60 psi.

Don't have any personal experience with the Shadow Rain Jacket.

It's important to try out the product in person. Even though the published literature will list certain numbers, one must also consider the subjective feeling of how the product works for YOU.

If you can, try on the jacket, feel the material, and try to assess (based on your own experience) how you think it will do.

I just got off chat with a very incompetent customer service rep at Northface. It was exasperating. Passive agressive, couldn't answer my questions and wouldn't get a supervisor who knew what he/she is doing.

Can you tell me the weight of the jacket in your video, and how frequently I should wash it if I take it on the AT for 4 months straight through early spring and summer? I don't want to wash it too frequently and wear it out, yet oils kill it. PSI drops from 60-40 after 20 wash cycles.

It isn't going to be waterproof like you mention but more water resistant

It all depends on the weather when your doing your activity, Morning mist and light rain can be deflected by Hyvent DT but heavy rain and Storms, I recomend Gortex Pro Shell or Even Performance shell
