I wonder why the landing lights aren't visible in the clouds and fog? Could it be that they do not put it on for the landing in low visibility so that they don't get disoriented?
@a340x the landing lights are (in swiss) activated when stabilized, latest then.
Good Thought, but its standart ops to have landing lights, strobeand NAV Lights on for landing, if the pilots like it or not.I remember that in that landing the fog was so thick, the lower we got the better it got :)
That callout is "reminding" the crew to take the Autothrust from the climb detend to Idle.The Autothrust will continue to maintain the speed if you dont reduce the thrust to Idle and you will end up flying with the landing speed at flare height.

The ruff landing (when nose wheel hits ground) was the effect of the autoland.
When you land the A330-XXX and A340-300 (the only aircraft I have been flying in the airbus series) you pull the stick back (when wheels touch the ground), to get a rely soft landing. You should set auto brake to low instead of medium if strip is not to short.
In this case he had the auto brake set to low but the stick is locked when autopilot is enable so he cant pull the stick back

well the touchdown was alright, but as the front wheel came down it was a bit rough. They are working on this runway since quit some time now, i don't know if the old pavement had something to do with it or not..

How long does it take to get to crusing altitude out of Hong Kong?
The A340 would be close to max takeoff weight on this sector

Hy there,
whith full payload we reach the first cruising altitude (FL. 300 - FL320 ) after about 20 minutes.
Later, when more fuel is burned and the 343 is leighter, we climb upto FL440.
Yes we are close to the weight limits there.

I have to say that FL 410 is a more normal cruse altitude then FL 440.

it looks worse on the vid then it felt in the flight deck, but your right..
all the nice flare-ing can be distroyed when you try to get the nose down slowly :-)
aswell, they did pavement construction on that runway..
