Actually, the 60's theme dates back at least to the radio show version starring Vincent Price in the 1940's. In fact the part of the theme played by the flute on the TV theme (the light liting bit)was whistled on the radio show version, possible by Price himself. I think that theme might even go back to the George Sander's Saint movies of the 30's.
I have nothing against Dutton, though I think he would've benefited from much shorter hair. The title sequence was a terrible along with the shitty theme. The original 60's was experimental, fresh and ahead of its time. But this crap firmly dates it. "The name's Simon Templar." Cue halo. Cue catchy 60's music with graphics. It's the only way to do it.
@MrDirector This was from 6 feature length episodes made in 1989-1990. And for what its worth, the Ian Ogilvy show "Return of The Saint" from the late 70s had different theme music than the Moore series as well and is actually enjoyable.
This is from 1989. These were made for TV Saint movies. This particular one was called, "Fear in Fun Park". I believe this was the last one and also the best one. Simon Dutton was actually not a bad Saint. I had recorded all the episodes on VHS back then.
Thanks for posting this. I really like the theme music to his show. Kudos also for including the ITV/HTV West intro. Being from the US, I didn't know this version of The Saint existed. I'd like to see an episode someday.
Something about the animation - style of the era, I dare say - gives it the feeling of a very cheap, fast-paced copy of the Poirot opening credits.

Why would you do a new Saint adaptation if you're not even going to use the theme music???

@MrDirector Later episodes with Roger Moore didn't have the original music, nor did Return Of The Saint with Ian Ogilvy.

By far the worst Saint adaptation except for the Val Kilmer movie. These TV movies were slow paced and had poor action sequences.

I remember this as a very poor attempt of bringing The Saint back to ITV. Three magic letters were sadly missed. I.T.C.
