This was played at my son's funeral in 1999 . He was killed one day before his 20th birthday, in a head on collision. God bless all who have lost a child to trgedy.
This song was never really "composed"; it is a traditional wake song of The Bahamas, recorded some years ago by by Joseph Spence and the Pinder Family, and subsequently by others.
I 1st heard this song from the grateful dead (as I have so many other classic songs from folk history). Still, THIS is the best version I've EVER heard
this song was the song my dad listed to when both of my uncles had past away they were never able to say good bye on good terms my father being the man he is forgave them before their passing but some are to stubburn to live and let go for those out there let your loved ones know you love them no matter how much crap has gone in your past make it up now
The beauty of this song is the range of sound between Aaron's unique voice and the background bass singer. Because of its range and simplicity, this song will haunt the recesses of your mind till the day you finally go to your resting place..
Heard this song while flying from Amsterdam to Jakarta and all the other songs on the album are great too, went to buy this Aaron neville c d right away. Thanks for posting.
Wore several tapes and tape players out playing and replaying this song over and over. Wonderful song; more wonderful singer. Aaron Nevile is my favorite singer - bar none.

@aardvark1956 You're welcome! You might like Joseph Spence. Look him up. he was primarily a guitarist, who influenced many noted musicians.
