  • Why I've never heard about this movie when I was a kid? I can't even find this movie in anywhere in our country, even the books are rare.

  • Hazel's not dead.

  • No matter how many times I've seen this film ( which I agree. its a bit scary and bloodthirsty for kids) I always cry whenever I hear this even now depressingly beautiful.

  • I always cried at Rabbits. :'-(

  • One of the most amazing books I've read and one of the most beautiful movies i've watched in my life.

  • Yeah im 7 again thx for post

  • I just wanted to renew my icq status with zh1992's quote when i realized my older one is so related to it! joanna newsom - baby birch I saw a rabbit, as slick as a knife, and as pale as a candlestick, and I had thought it'd be harder to do, but I caught her, and skinned her quick: held her there, kicking and mewling, upended, unspooling, unsung and blue; told her "wherever you go, little runaway bunny, I will find you." And then she ran, as they're liable to do.
  • With rabbits like these, who needs rebels? Such a beautiful song. It makes me want to sleep with this song during the night.

  • I don't know about you, but that is a scary ass picture!!

  • @CharmieKid i used to see it in the video shop(betamax) when i was a kid but i never "saw" what it was for years. to me it looked like some kinda wookie wi a bullet belt across it's chest. however when i finally saw the film i was blown away! still looks like a wookie to me tho.

  • This song drove me to tears as a kid when it was new (and the only time I can remember crying at any movie, ever; I think I was all of 5)--and it does the same thing now, all these years later, only on a much more profound, bittersweet, level.

  • Such a sad song from a brilliant but monumentally depressing film.

  • @TheAltair4

How old were you when you saw this? 12 and read good reviews of it in review books and stated PG-rated animated movie, sounds cool and i loved it. Became one of my fave animated movies! depressing, violent and unique animated movie for adults. John Hurt did gave a good vocal performance don't you think?

  • @Johnlindsey289 I first saw this on tv when i was 7 and was kind of shocked by it's violence and blood but still thought it was a great film even though very sad. Everyone did amazing voice work for this masterpiece, even John Hurt.

  • @TheAltair4 Same at me. Similar with Felidae, both are not really made for kids :)

  • @Boccaraton2011 Yeah, and Plague Dogs, Twilight of the Cockroaches and Grave of the Fireflies are all pretty depressing too.

  • @TheAltair4 yeah, but you can kinda tell just from the titles that those will bring you down

  • why we cant have a music like this.looks all people listen to is pure shit

  • I have always loved this movie, and I think it is one of the greatest environmentally-conscious films ever made, right next to Bambi (if not slightly higher) on my list. I'm only 15 and I am so glad I love it the way I do. It's gory and morbid, true, but it's so much better for kids than the crap they're throwing out these days.

  • @MandrianPolonski Yes, I would agree that this is one of the greatest Environmentally- Conscious films ever but don't count out Nausicaa and Princess Mononoke... They're magnificent.

  • @Starlight1571

What about Pom Poko, Felidae, Antz and Twilight of the Cockroaches? all depressing adult animated movies with talking animals

  • @MandrianPolonski Richard Adams didn't actually intend the story to be any kind of statement, but I can see where you would derive that idea.

  • I think we all here grow up with awesome movies like that and the kids today grow up with Shit! They should make movies like that, its so touching and sad. I cry whenever i hear this song, its so wonderful it just touchs my heart and for all people who dislike this: You have no soul!!! And i am sorry for my bad english ;) Greetings from Germany

  • @AkatsukiDeidara1

    recht haste :D

heute kommt ein haufen scheiß und die kinder werden da mit Monster AG oder Teletubbies o.ä. verblödet.

filme wie dieser hatten noch echte tiefe und berühren einen noch heute :D

  • @AkatsukiDeidara1 : thats exactly how i feel!

  • @AkatsukiDeidara1

    Ihr Englisch ist sehr gut.

  • @AkatsukiDeidara1 Ik! I love the oldie movies, so much emotion and it looks pretty real, as in, backgrounds and fur. Now everything is so cartoonish. I love to see these movies :D

  • Sad ass movie ToT

I cryed! Song is so touching... if u saw the movie along with it... u wil cry ToT

  • I really like the instrumental in this version of the song.

  • ugly shit,bad!

  • it's kinda hard listening to this song while i stare at a disturing picture of BigWig getting strangled

  • I sit here amazed. . . After over 30 years, this song still moves my soul to tears. No other song I have ever heard effects me like this. That haunting voice, the oboe and french horn, and the slow mystic strings, like trees in a misty background. Those lyrics, straight from that still and quite part the soul. Thank you Art Garfunkel.

  • @AlexanderRaccoon Exactly the same with me. I watched this for the first time in years yesterday, and it just made me shiver. I love this song so much.

  • @AlexanderRaccoon

Well said!! And thanks MIke Batt.

  • @kurt2552 You have no soul.

  • @kurt2552 i agree

  • Luv this song and the movie they don't make films like this any more its sad I'm saying this as a 11 year old

  • love the beginning <3

  • I love this song and Movie.

  • I love this song and Movie. :)

  • I can't help crying. D: Reminds me of everything sad.

  • I'm looking everywhere for another version of this.

It starts with a flute and noise of birds, I guess.

    Does anybody know?!

  • I cried the first time i say this when i was 10 :'(

  • 1:27 I cry every time I hear that part in this track. That's why this version will always be my favorite.

  • el al a rah is my god

  • anyone remb the animation with the mouses? same feel as this one...

  • @Corliavt Do you mean an American tail? If so that had feel. They don't make animations with feel anymore... Well, they are pretty rare anyway today!

  • I watched this movie last week after 10 years the second time... just amazing

  • They don't make animations like this any more. We just have 3D computer animated stuff that has no feeling, or intelligence put into it. And no, i'm not some old timer, I'm saying that as a 13 year old! I love this movie!

  • @TMpokesonicstudios Well, actually... The intelligence they put into 3D animations now days far exceed that of this type of animation.

  • @XeroRastaa I ment a different kind of intelligence. some 3D animations are clever, but they aren't so common now.

  • No matter how many times I listen to this wonderful song, I STILL get chills every time without fail!

  • i heard this on wallace and grummit too! i only liked watership down because it was so gosh dern violent it was awsome!

  • reminds*

  • this song reùinds me of the good old times :) love this!

  • or the sun could be rise to defeat death as bigwig doesn't die in a snare!

  • This song made me cry - how I loved this movie when I was younger !

  • I already have this song, but it's off of Art Garfunkel's Fate for Breakfast album, and it's different than this one... I might have to download it twice! I love this score.

  • i need to see this film, i was born in 1989, so i was able to grow up with some of the late disney classics like the lion king and was fortunate enough to grow out of childrens films just before they turned into the awful crap they make now (pixar is an exception) looks like this film being before my time is even better than the ones i grew up with tho

  • Now why doesn't somebody attempt to something like this today? I dare all those nutless corporate hacks to do something like this!!!

  • @FlamingMeatballProd The heart of animation will never return until people who care more about a good story than about money and pop culture get the reins.

  • @AstralDragoon

Too God Damn True. When I become a producer, I will make something like this.

  • @FlamingMeatballProd That sounds wonderful. I've been lamenting the death of classic animation for some time, and the drivel that's churned out in the newer CGI films doesn't encourage me. Hopefully, people like you can turn things around.

  • @AstralDragoon

Isn't it great when you know you're not alone on this matter. Just hope there's a lot more people that appreciate classic animation, but with all the mainstream tards of today, we unfortunately seem to be a minority.

  • you got to love it

  • <3 :)

  • @angelMJrulesfizz it IS a snare....from when poor old Bigwig got the chokeslam.

  • I love the movie

  • The very beginning gave me chills....

  • It's amazing to see how many people now the film and associate it with their childhood, even if they are born in the 80's or 90's :)

I've seen the film as a kid too, and it made me sooo sad.... that song always brings back the memory of that feeling, even though I can hardly remember the film anymore.

  • now that im olden and im able to understand the text it makes me more cry then ever....

  • that film was so sad, i used to break my heart watchin it, i didnt really get it, why wa sit so sad? it made me understand about death. What wa sit all about? i know what it was about literally but i mean in the other sense....it just made me so sad and cry

  • you know whats sad? I've seen this movie a number of times, and I seriously just now noticed that the shadow was a rabbit with it's nose to the sky, I always saw it as a shadow figure with a melancholy look over his face haha wow great movie, beautiful song

  • I want a girlfriend who knows how to appreciate such songd so i can sing it to her im cute and 19 lol

  • I've seen this movie twice when I was a child, I'm surprised that I wasn't scarred, cause there was a lot of blood in it, but it did make me have a sad feeling, even now thinking about it makes me have that exact sad feeling. Well it is meant to be tragic movie.

  • this song is of my kids time to 16 yehrs ago ,cry of this song wonderful thans of this song

  • Bring a tear to my eye LOL stupid rabbits

  • All the world will be your enemy, Prince with a Thousand Enemies. And whenever they catch you, they will kill you. But first, they must catch you... digger, listener, runner, prince with the swift warning. Be cunning and full of tricks, and your people will never be destroyed.

  • @zh1992 Amazing quote. I love it.

  • @zh1992 i cryed at this film but i was only a little kid!

  • I didn't pick it. It's the cover art of the CD.

  • @MutantLeprechaun It was also the movie poster.

  • @MutantLeprechaun It was also the movie poster. It is Bigwig in the snare.

  • @MutantLeprechaun I love the cover art with the sun setting in the background and Bigwig in the snare. It sums up the film perfectly as even in the end hazel for all of his cunning can't escape the snare of death even when he dies naturally as the black rabbit ask him to come with him.

  • Beautiful song I love it, but couldnt you have picked a better pic than Bigwig caught in the snare?

  • this memories... awww... i loved this song so much *_*

  • this movie is deppresing

  • My favorite part is when the orchestra takes over in the middle recapping the theme associated with the rabbits (Fiver) and lets the English horn bring the melody back home to the vocals. Beatiful score & won of my all time favorite movies

  • good song, sick choice of picture!

  • @wendynicholson1 - That is a picture of Bigwig caught in the snare. It is on the marquee poster and the soundtrack album artwork. The movie is wonderful. It is a heroic tale oppression and freedom. Not for young children -- it should be rated PG-13. But everyone should see it.

  • love this song<3

  • this film is freakin scary! I can't beleive it is a U!

  • @jasmineb226 It's part of that damn misconception that ALL animations are for kids. In America, it's PG-13 I think.

  • @ScorpioCarly According to Martin Rosen, the director, children weren't fazed by the violence of this film. It was the parents that blew it all out of proportion, maybe because they were confused as to how the violence scared them more than their children. lol

  • @TheMonochromeBird Tell that to the nightmares this gave me! Also, I always cried at the scene where Bigwig gets caught in the wire because I thought he actually died...

  • @TearsofWolves It never bothered me, I was 6 when I first watched this film. I guess it applies to different people. :/

  • @ScorpioCarly Kwl

  • @ScorpioCarly No, it's got a big fat G rating stuck right on the back. It's like petting a cute bunny and then it turns around and bites your finger so hard that it bleeds. That's what watching this movie as a kid is like. XD

  • This song is beautiful, reminds me of my dead grandfather because he used to watch Watership Down with me :') R.I.P

  • We had to get my dog put down today for cancer and kidney failure...

I sang this to her as we put her down... She always seemed to love the song...

And her death looked more like sleep... very peaceful... but very pale...

    R.I.P. Senator

  • @BlooCirca I know how you feel, I was thinking the same thing listening to this song. I had to say goodbye to my Lassie back in august. I cry often thinking of her. Its an ache in my heart so real, I miss her. Im sorry for your loss too.

book. And i don't watched it when i was a kid

  • I love the song ♥

  • OMG I listened to this song with tearful eyes. Great movie :)

  • One of the most sad and disturbing movies I saw as a kid, I believe.

  • @Jouwl did you read the book? very bleak. a lot more in it than there is in the film.

  • The clarinet that comes in at 0:29 makes the whole song just hauntingly beautiful.

  • wer hat denn das gesungen ???? (in hip-hop oder techno-jumpstyle etc viel besser)

  • @Mrkingesac

Mike Batt bzw Art Garfunkel... und nein, nichts kommt auch nur teilweise an das Original heran ;)

  • @Klotzerine

Yeah, brings tear out of my eye every time.

  • C'mon... Anime is not bad. You're thinking of Pokemon, Digimon, Bakugan, Naruto, Yu-Gi-Oh and all that other crap. Try watching Princess Mononoke, Spirited Away, Ginga Nagareboshi Gin or any other of the Studio Ghibli films. They're sure to change anyone's view of anime.

  • @ThylacineAli ginga densetsu weed is better

  • @ThylacineAli

really loved spirited away, its a beautiful movie!

  • I heard ´this song on the radio today. It's a song i'll never forget.

I loved that movie that much !

I didn't understand what the song or the movie was about, I was child but now i do.Bautiful and sad

  • By the way GREAT SONG:)

  • Just accept that all animation is good. Both anime and animation.Just stop kicking every anime fans as.Its like I would kick your as only becouse you like banana. You just dont make any sence.I hope I never ever get to hear again that someone critizize any one else for just being who they are.I hope you learned your lesson you big moron:(

  • The ones I think can grow up are the ones who wont acccept whats different from them.Just accept that they are manga and anime fans out there and just accept that they are those who are not.Its no big deal.I hate it when you critizize someone who likes somephing you dont like. Its just wrong. You just keep saying bad things about them.Dont you realise that it hurts.Do you realise how we suffer.AH YOU PISS ME OFF SO DAMN MUCH.YOU ARE THE MEANEST PERSON I EVER SEEN.oh,I just give up.

  • Um okay.Im so suprised over how many people there are who hates anime.I mean are you like rasist.Whata heck do you mean with lets take back what is truly ours. Are you freaken dead in your mind.I mean everyone has the right to make animation and stories. There are so many different kinds of ways to make a story. And I am an auther who makes european manga cuz Im swedish.I myself prefer anime and manga cuz they are good at making greeat stories.Nomater how old you are you never too old for animation

  • I remember watching this as a child. This was the first movie/song that had me crying. I love this movie, and this song is hauntingly beautiful. A tune I have never, ever been able to forget.

  • @cartoonkingforeever

yes i think your right this movie is really greate but you have to tollerate the opinion from others too^^ mh thats true a long time ago *for me a long time=P* there where much better films on tv but i dont like tv very much so i read books or i listen to audo books *i like that very much* im not that type of teen or adult that likes whatching stupid love storys^^' and to answer your other post. i think that i can say that i have read enough books

  • @cartoonkingforeever

    im from europe too

and please dont say that i suck you dont know me so you cant say anything about me

  • @cartoonkingforeever

you are really narcissistic to call yourself a king

i cant understand why you are shouting around like that, if you want i can give you some examples for very bad cartoons

but i think you only like things with nice pictures you are not the person who is interessted in profound, or nice storys

im a patient girl, but if your second answer is like the first one (nothing but yelling at other people who just told their opinion) i will not be so nice like i am now

  • I hate anime. The art style annoys me.

  • @360Gamer2010

oh in japa every animated film is called an anime, so this is an anime too^^

there are many good, sad and profound animes ^^
