This was one of a few occasions when JR got really really mad, and every time he did...he destroyed someone, He destroyed Cliff Barnes more than once, he destroyed Sue Ellen on numerous occasions and that Barnes woman(His name for Pam).
@alslevie1986 We all loved JR's nastiness, but it got a lot darker here. He had, for one of the few times, a moral outrage fueling his anger. Bobby, his business rival, but beloved rival, was dead and Sue Ellen walked right into a trap. JR unloaded a volley of scorn on Sue Ellen, reducing her to tears. It was classic Dallas, which by the end of the season, would be all but gone. It never really recovered. I hope the new version has this kind of intensity.
It takes a Tragedy to see that Cliff actually does care for his Sister Pam. It took ( at the time ) Bobby's death to show he had more then hate in his heart.. Same goes for JR even if it was for a short time.
I did have an issue with how they just kind of brushed the fact that Katherine MURDERED Bobby under the carpet. Pam, Miss Ellie & Cliff briefly discuss it & then it's like he just passed away in his sleep or something. Pam just schrugs it off by babbling "so much hate - oh, do we get all her money now?" OK, so I made up the latter part, but it was a BIG deal minimized too much. Jenna should have found out (it explained EVERYTHING that happened to her - Naldo, trial, jail) & gone after Pam's cash
When i was younger around 7 years old i watched the fist season of Dallas on DVD back and in the earlier episodes i always though J.R was gay because he never touched Sue Ellen and with the many affairs he could have going to great lengths to hide him being homosexual. I know now that thinking that was idiotic.
Unfortunately there are mothers like Miss Ellie (yes, I know she is a character) all over the world. Your job is to lay the truth down to your kids (regardless of their age). You do not allow your son to talk to his wife that way.
@Amar7605 JR could be scary when he was mad! Even Clayton knew not to push him here. Sue Ellen stumbled into a hornet's nest with her naive comment about "having the best day." Then, JR pounced! "Oh you had the best day did you?" Some great drama. Too bad it was all wiped out by "Pam's stupid dream." Notice there is a nice tapestry above the dining room doorway (part of the total redocoration of the house at start of this season) that was never there again. Guess they thought it too gaudy.
The way to bring back Patrick without it all being a dream would have been to not kill off Bobby in the frist place. Maybe Bobby just disappears after a major argument with JR and the season ending cliffhanger is Miss Ellie kicking JR off Southfork.
@nrkgalt I have always thought that it would have been great if all of Season 08 would have been a dream of Bobby's while he was in a coma for the entire 198-1986 year. He would wake up and slowly he would find out what happened while he was in the coma (as would the viewers). Kinda like "Desperate Housewives" time-jump.
Yes! Someone else caught the redecoration of the living room between the end of the 1984-85 season & the premier of the 1985-86 season. It does appear that while the Ewings were saying goodbye to Bobby at the hospital, their living room at South Fork was being redecorated. I do prefer the new digs as it had a more luxurious look befitting such a rich family. Also, Dallas was competing with Dynasty, which had overtaken Dallas as the #1 show in '85. South Fork had to compete with Blake's mansion.
Did the Ewings have the decorators in while they were at the hospital saying goodbye to Bobby? Everything looks refurbished since the previous season finale .
an entirely different resurection was filmed back in `86 to explain the shower scene!the show filmed the story that since kaherine was rich, other hired killers could be gunnin` for bobby so as they were takin` him to the morgue he came back to life so they decided to put bobby in protective custody untli/if he recuperates!a year later, after katherine,s gang were rounded bobby decided to return.he came back to southfork,jr almost had a coronary, they talked and then bob went to pam.& shower scene!
She was going through a rough time. John Ross was in the Hospital for an Operation. JR chewed her out for not being there for their son, and instead of going to AA or calling her sponsor, she fell off the wagon. The day Bobby died in the Car Accident, she was with Dusty Farlow who was trying to help her "Dry Out", so she didn't know. Also, isn't it strange that she didn't hear it on the Radio considering how powerful The Ewings were.
JR is here at his most disgusting. It was near that he wouldn´t have been saying goodbye to Bobby either. JR was dating Mandy Winger and his secretary caught him by the phone by the accident.
Finnmove, I agree with you 100% that JR was at his most disguisting in this scene. Victoria was amazing in her scene where she is blaming herself for Bobby's "death".
Despite the fact Miss Ellie had changed her outfit and had changed back to Barbara Bel Geddes from Donna Reed and the whole house had had a complete make over in a few hours season 8 was a brilliant season and they should have built upon the strengths of JR, Pam and Ewing Oil. Instead they noticeably increased Miss Ellie's role but failed to get rid off characters such as Jenna and Charlie - the Donna storyline was brilliant but wasted and they ruined it all with bobby's return such a shame
Notice that while the Ewings were with Bobby at the hospital, a interior design team completely re-did the living room. New furniture, drapes, fire place, darker trimming and side doors opened. The interior looked much better after the remake, but it was funny, to me at least, that upon returning after Bobby's death, the house and Miss Ellie were completely transformed - for the better IMO!
If I was J.R. I would've told Clayton to shut the fuck up!!! He is always getting into somebody else's business! He can see that J.R. doesn't want to be bothered!!! And he should have shut up when J.R. was putting Sue Ellen through the ringer!!
Clayton really shouldn't have overstepped his boundaries. Bobby was a Ewing, Clayton wasn't. Also, everyone was on edge because of the tragedy. Clayton should have left the family alone to deal with this effectively. When you're in mourning, you are so upset and hysterical you don't think about what you're doing or saying. I remember when my Grandmother died, my family was so angry and cruel to each other but it wasn't until later that I realized that their anger was to manifest their grief.
dallas ist ein stück fernsehgeschichte . eine tolle serie, jr war der beste, pam eine psycho-tante und sue ellen eine dumme schnapsdrossel. jr forever !!
I still reckon Bobby should have stayed dead I remember watching the dream season on UK Gold a few years ago and I enjoyed every minute of it especially the JR/Pam scenes at Ewing Oil. Only things I didn't like were Mark Graisens return as he dragged Pams character back down + some of the Angelica Nero stuff was a little out there though her assistant Grace was smoulderingly hot.
I used to get a kick out of Angelica Nero. Barbara Carrera was wonderful! Did you hear that the original plans called for Angelica and Grace to be lovers? That's right. But they re-thought the idea and played it safe.
If it were today, it could be done but from what I heard Larry Hagman was homophobic. I'm not saying it's true but since Dack Rambo, was gay and had to hide his sexuality throughout his career, I think that doing that storyline wouldn't have worked.
JR was more angry that she was with Dusty than anything else. If Sue Ellen had say gone to visit her mother or an AA Meeting, he wouldn't have gotten ballistic. Also, don't you notice that she probably didn't have her Radio on to hear the news. Since The Ewings were such powerful people, I'm surprised that it wasn't broadcasted.
I cried, I felt so bad for Pam, Miss Ellie & even JR. Although JR did alot of bad things to his "little brother", he loved Bobby more than he could ever love Gary or even Ray.
If you were a true Dallas fan back then, you know that Bobby's death felt like someone in your own family had died. You felt numb and a little lost. That was the greatness of the writers. A lot of people put down this "dream season", but how else could he have returned as Bobby after dying/flatlining and not make it seem impossible. Remember, Patrick Duffy wanted out and they had to move on. He was gone a whole year, anything non-dream would have seemed illogical at that point.
I liked the dream season, but had this storyline continued, I have a feeling the show would not of been any better than how it turned out. In fact it may have been worse. The only original characters left at the end were Bobby, JR, and Cliff. Without Bobby at the very end, I don't know, things would've been different that's for sure.
@musicmaker85 , the last episdoe for the Dream Season was good. Yeah Bobby was gone. but JR and Sue Ellen were together again (The never ending saga of kiss and make up ) but Jamie had died in a car explosion and the Ewing building had exploded with Sue Ellen in it At the time I was waiting to see if she lived or died before they dumped the storyline and it became a Dream.
i loved this season SUE-ELLEN walks into Ewing office and it blows the side out of the building I was stunned but.thank god next season she was back!!!
I don't get why everyone hates the dream so much. "Back then" is interesting terminology since if you remember "back then" as I do, the importance was bringing BOBBY back (not Patrick as someone else) and a credible storyarc to do so was secondary.
