I forgot to mention...you can use items ment for other programs in Daz, there are people working to make meta data files for the old items, there is a free script to create your own meta data files and tutorials on how to use it, there is an auto fit free with the program so old items can be used with Genesis, so you don't really have to buy anything to use this program.
There is a lot of free stuff for Daz. You have the weekly freebies from Daz, not to mention from other sites, there is the freebie section of the forums as well as other sites, many of these items are very well made, some even better then what's in the store. You do not need lots of money to use Daz, I am proof of that. Daz just offered almost $1000 worth of product for free. People really need to stop whining.
I think DAZ DOES misguide the noobie considerably - whilst the graphics and modelling power are great, they do fail to tell you, that you will need a wad of cash and hide all credit cards, at least to make the decent stuff! Not forgetting the endless amounts of patience to even learn some of the basics. Plus the Mac Vs Windows interface is an issue in some of the tutorials. They do differ and can throw you off. I'm a 2 week noobie and have sworn more in one week than ever have before!!! O_o
DAZ3D's DAZ Studio 4 is pretty good but the tutorial videos are not as informative as they should be. Many times I've had to stop a video to go back to a certain part & try to see how a certain action was performed, as the narrator doesn't say how it's done. It's like they assume that beginners will already know how it's done. I've had the software for 5 months now & getting some of the content I purchased into the poser or DAZ Studio library has been unclear to me. I need an instruction manual.
@MNRedRyder Actually, You can now get DS4 PRO for FREE untill March 31. They extended the sale. You can get DS4 PRO, BRYCE 7, and Hexagon 2.5 for FREE.
You'd just have to purchase Characters, Accessories, and Props for Genesis and you can do exactly what you just saw in this video.

Isn't the "Dynamic Desire Hair" a Carrara only product? Yet it's in a Daz Studio advert. :P
