Never ever do this! It doesnt matter what it looks like as long as it doesnt leak!! That is pointless. Just solder it right the first time. It only takes about 1/2 inch of solder to get the fitting hub full.
Waddaya mean: DO NOT Get this stuff on your hands???? Never mind your hands doodle head. They'll heal even from a severe burn. But just try and see through a scar on your eye either from solder flicked off the brush or exploding from contact with water while hot .
Have the decency to remove this video before some redneck follows your poorly thought out example.

Yes TARD cooling your pipe or fittings pre-maturley CAN harm it. It can weaken the pipe and fitting.People please look at other vids on you tube there are much better ones out there that are easy to understand.I have watched all this guys vids just for laughs.I have been soldering/brazing for 20 years and can tell you this isnt the way.
This clown isnt even related to a real plumber !! Please rename this crap IDIOT VILLAGE. Shit like this makes money for skilled tradesmen. because homeowners unwittingly try this @ home and 6 months down the line must get in a pro on a callout @ a high rate. get it done first day by a pro (on a fixed price) who can stand over his work.
Im sorry but you never do that to copper pipe and solder! DOnt do this ever. and the pipe is black because it is probably old cold water piping he had. but never clean a joint after made, never apply flux or any cold such as a wet rag. it will disrupt the joint, therefore leak! Dont do this!
i can tell u without watchin. put the torch to the excess solder to melt it then wipe it away. u can use a rag. btw i would advise agianst using a handyman to do plumbing work. u could get in serious by the city and handymen pretty much rig stuff up. remember u get what u pay for
If you don't use half a roll of solder then you wouldn't need to do this! Good plumbing. And cold water will crack a hot joint very easily. Who is this guy!?
, he got his copper too hot in the first place. the trick to making a clean solder joint is heat control and knocking the extra off with the solder your working with.
I found that all the so call experst on Expert Village are a BUNCH OF FUCKING IDIOTS! Every category they address are full of mistakes. Watch the video with the stupid women who does 'sign language' or the guy who is teaching someone how to play in different musical 'meters'. It's a joke! DON'T LISTEN TO ANYONE FROM "EXPERT VILLAGE". It should be called "ASSHOLE VILLAGE"
Lol he made it wet right after he's done to cool down XD, that one is a leak for sure. it must cool down by itself for at least 1 minute. And about the extra solder, heat the pipe (for first time, do it right in one time) and when ur dn eputting solder in that just use the solder itself to tick away the bumb underneath xD
As pointed out below this guy is a REAL hack. If you follow his poor instructions you will have a high percentage of failed or going to fail shortly joints. Check out other how to sweat copper videos on You Tube (like Tony the plumbers video).
What a stupid video!! Do not do this. When solder is cooling it has a tendency to crack if knocked... He has also spent 3 months cleaning that pipe.... copper is not black.
What you need to do is an apprentiship and learn how to solder. It shouldn't need cleaning up when your done.
So if you all disagree? why is this then rated with 4 stars? I'll try to down it a littlebit, untill the Mr Sweat comes clean with some proof his method doesn't affect pipe performance (leakages, less pressure etc.)
Do not do this.........you're bound to flush most of the solder out of the joint, overheat the joint making it soft and weak, and never use water on a hot joint as it doesn't allow the solder time to re-solidify strong. Use a dry rag and flame, sparingly. Above all, NEVER attempt to dissasemble & refit old joints as you will not be able to clean & prep the joint as new and it will be unreliable..... new fittings are cheap. Remeber, a water system is only as strong as its weakest joint
It is a poor way to clean joint, Get a damp rag or cloth whichever, heat joint and wipe and you'll see, if you had done this after making the joint, then there would be no need for the extra work, Just try what I mean,
from a union pipefitter, Also you got a little water?? stuff the pipe with bread, a 1/2 slice is about enough for 3/4" pipe, Give it a try, Only thing to lose is a couple minutes, but you gain some good exp,
