I think aikido is useful to know as a complementary skill set with a main kickboxing based martial art. Aikido by itself it not that great I feel jujitsu is more realistic as a non kickboxing martial art that is effective against kickboxing based techniques. I'd pit a low to middle range MMA fighter against the top Aikido artist and likely win the bet. It's not a fighting style and is used for defense for sure, just haven't seen it in practical demonstration or exhibition.
I don't understand why everyone is saying aikido is so mystical. It's just jujutsu from a standing position. Half of these techniques are the exact same thing as you'd use on the ground. In judo, they don't even change the name from the aikido version. It's a lot harder to do in standing because things are happening a lot faster and you're not in constant contact, but there's certainly nothing magical or mystical about joint locks and so on.

Ashihara Karate (Semmy Schilt WORLD K1 Champ!!! wooped everyones ass so no silly comments) Sabaki is very much an important part of a real martial artist's arsenal. @Dobbersky nobody.... aikido is pretty much outlawed in UFC because it is too dangerous. small joint manipulation and pressure points and most atemi strikes are not allowed in UFC... so the only thing that basically could be applied from the art is the stance and movement which is why you don't see it, only some principles of it... but anderson silvia does train with steven seagul and he has won his fair share of fights id say.
First, this isn't kickboxing. Second, for any 'technique' to work in REAL LIFE i.e. the street, you must be able to do it and train at combat speed. This means that when training you're going full speed and the attacker is NOT compliant... He must actually try to hit you... With that said, I don't think Aikido would work. Shit, keep your hands down against a semi-experience boxer or kick-boxer and it's LIGHTS OUT! GET REAL!
Is this aikido? I practiced this with karate, too - moves like this are part of the Kyokushin-kumite exam forms, for example. Plus, I learnt to do some proper kicks there, which this dressed up aikido guy didn't.

i am a kickboxer and this is not kickboxing in the video. kickboxing is brutal. while the guy grabs a kickboxer's leg, he usually spin kicks him with the other and follows through with a flurry of punches to the face. no aikido can stop a full contact PROFESSIONAL fighter.

Nice to know what to do with these kicks, however: In my opinion is not the type of art which make you survive a confrontation, but how well and how fast you can adapt to your opponent. Anyhow, blocking low kicks with the leg is in my opinion not without risk (and not the aikido type of solution). I would avoid the kick by stepping in.

Its called "Awase" and takes at least 6-10 years to learn and more years to perfect.

Who is putting this videos. Aikido is good martial art. BUT IT ISNT BETTER THAN OTHER ARTS.
Especially because of some IDIOTIC AIKIDO INSTRUCTIONS- WRISTLOCK ARE JUST 1% OF TRUE AIKIDO. HAND CATCHING IS FUNNY, FUNNY....

@delphys75 Firstly, kickboxers don't wear gi's. Aikido students wear gi's unless they are instructors. Only instructors wear the black hakama. So get ur facts straight. Therefore, if the guy in the gi is in fact an Aikido student then he is wearing the proper uniform. So STFU!

@Spankymf Ðude, in Aikido you use movement's energy. Hands are only one way to redirect it. It has technics that don't use hands.

Nice to know what to do with these kicks, however: In my opinion is not the type of art which make you survive a confrontation, but how well and how fast you can adapt to your opponent. Anyhow, blocking low kicks with the leg is in my opinion not without risk (and not the aikido type of solution). I would avoid the kick by stepping in.
