There was a delayed penalty coming up on the dark colored team. Therefore, the goalie was going to go to the bench for an extra attacker... Instead of going to the bench, he allowed himself to join the play. Apparently it was also late in the game as the dark team had their goalie pulled. There was no risk of a goal in his own net because as soon as the dark team touched the puck, the whistle would blow

@Rms3434 Yeah, idiots. There is, however, a rule in those leagues where the referees can randomly assign penalty shots just for fun. Because that's what happened. There was no penalty, it just seemed like a good time for a penalty shot.

a goalie can cross the red line in the second period to get to his bench, the second period is when you are opposite your bench. the rule is then the attacking blue line. The rule used to be control the puck up to redline now it is now defensive blue line

I'm pretty sure that the rule is that they're not allowed to carry the puck over the red line, if they're passed to it should be fine.

He took off because there was a delayed penalty which is why the ref's hand was up, so if the blue team got the puck, they wouldn't have been able to shoot.
