Wow, I am a die hard beamer fan and I cant believe what im hearing here. Yes the bmw is a beauty that has the best of luxury and performance, but the corvette has always been about nothing else but performance, PERIOD!
LSX engines are the best motors out there. Despite the displacement, these motors are simple and very efficient in both fuel and power. As far as handling, have any of you guys driven a z06? Those things handle very well. The beamer is e-z to handle but the vette isnt horrible.

@V8Supercar1 a car can be fast, & still be cheaply made. Corvettes are not nearly as well made as any of the European sports cars, like ferraris, lambos, astons, bmw, mercedes, etc. You know that they aren't as well made. Sure they have 2 of the top 10 spots but still be cheaply made.

Corvettes comes with race bred engines thats been endurance tested before they go into production. Also as a Ferrari fan, i will tell you the 458 Italia is faster (over-all) than a ZR-1. I'm not saying the 458 is faster on Nurburgring BUT if you look at all the other tracks it has raced on the 458 is faster more often than not than a ZR1. Plus the 458 is faster 0-150-0mph.

Your comparison between the Zr-1 and the 458 italia is flawed because the 2012 ZR1 has not yet been around every track the 458 has. Its been around the Nurburgring and the Laguna in which it posted faster lap times. And the Viper ACR vs. the 458. They've only been on 3 similar tracks. In which the Viper posted faster lap time on all 3.
@V8Supercar1 I think you should learn the diffrence between a Sportscar and Supercar. When i think of sports cars i think of MAZDA MX-5 or RX-7 not a Corvette with 630hp and a Supercharger.
BTW you should compare the ZR1 and 458 from the same time. IF you want to Compare 2012 cars wait untill the new Enzo comes out getting about 750hp+/tonne. Its going to shift.

Its built for the sole purpose of being exclusive, expensive, exotic and fast. A sports car is simple. Its a high performance car thats built by budget. lol Its a good thing I don't think that way. Because there are dozens of tracks around the globe even here in the U.S. thats very challenging. But anyway, the 02 Enzo just simply had "issues". Yes it did under perform on the ring but also everywhere else. Not to mention the issues that even Top Gear pointed out. It was a great car, but I don't see anything wrong with wanting more from the next one.

And I do find it interesting that the same thing happened to Warren Mosler not that long ago when he was winning in Europe. But speaking of the british/american effort. The Hennessey Venom GT is a big disappointment in my book. Mainly because of the price tag. And I also thought that Hennessey should have redesigned the interior or atleast have it redesigned by someone else.

When i talk to other Europeans and my friends we never seem bothered about the price of a car as it doesn't reflect anything of the car although i was looking on Ebay the other day and i saw a ZO6 Victory edition for 26k, i think that worth the money but i would ratherBMW
@namybot: The only time price starts to bother me about a car, is when I think its been over priced. The Hennessey Venom GT is priced at roughly 8 to 900 grand. After TTL (tax title and Licensing). The car is over a million dollars and the interior looks like it was pieced together at the last minute. Thats unacceptable for a car with that price. John Hennessey (one of my favorite extreme tuners) could have had a better product if he had just simply put a little bit more thought into this car.
Hennessey cars are Pathetic, the cars aren't put together to well. I think HKS, UGR, AMS and 9ff are ten times better. Jan Fatthauer is way better than John Hennessey at making cars fast, his Porsche's hit 250mhp and are faster than Bugatti veyrons on 1/4 mile

@Dominator5515 Wow, Viper won a few Races in 1990s. Porsche and Ferrari collectively has won over 70,000 races in the past 80yrs (do the math). C5R/C6R are winning American races like ALMS. Audi has won Le Mans 10x in the past 11yrs. BMW have been winning 24hrs Dubai and Nurburgring Ferrari have been all over the place winning everything. Oh and Fords Rally cars are made by British Engineers, American name but not an American car, just like the FORD GT40.

Even if the Dodge viper is faster than the 458, I would take a 458 over a viper any day. & the 458 was voted #1 by the best driver car by Motor Trend. @namybot: I don't know what you are getting at. But the Ultimate Aero did its top speed run on a 2.5 mile straight of stretch on a public highway. The Veyron did its run on a perfectly paved track with a 5 mile straight. That is a big difference. Not too mention the Aero did the 1/4 mile at 9.9 secs which is right on par with the Veyron SS. Don't mention the Gallardo TT because its not a production car. Its a modified car.

The HP totals on the BMW were confusing, anyway the vette easily weighs 500-1000 lbs les then the BMW. Thats a reason not an excuse for why the vette walked away from the M6.
At no point until the z06 let off the gaz at the end did the tuned m6 ever come even close.Those are the facts i dont care which car you prefer the z06 is a much faster car than an m6 as it should be being 800 pounds lighter.
z06 has like a 7.0or something v8 and produces like 505hp, while the m6 only has a 5.0v10 and still produces 507hp. Thats good engineering right there. Plus a luxury 4 seater heavier car did pretty good against a lightweight 2 seater sports car.

crank hp is what the engine produce ( factory numbers) wheel hp is what it puts on the ground ... so theres an hp loss transferring power from the engine to the drive-train to the wheel or so ... loss 17% more or less

This vette generates more power 487RWHP and the BMW 445RWHP, thats a bit more, than the BMW weights 340kg more than a Z06, thats a huge difference in my opinion!!

Its not the build quality, the whole bullshit in Top Gear on the ZR1 has created many misconceptions of the Vette falling apart and the rear bumper made from a material that is very easy to manipulate. Agree with you the BMW is not a cheap car but we have other tuners, G-power as a example... In germany the M6 cost 40k Euros LESS than a ZR1 and you get the better car in quality and get a better resaleprice. both countries are different, the ZR1 is only in USA a good buy because the low price there.
the MPG is 11/17, not the best, but remember the weight!!! the Z06 is 15 (city) and 24 (highway)
@druide106 actually the Z06 can pull off high 20's easily and 31 if you are really trying to on the freeway. City is more like 10 unless you actualy use the skip shift which most people don't.

The Z06's 7 liter engine is 458 lbs (1.103 hp per lb). The M6's 5 liter engine is 529 lbs. Imagine if BMW managed to squeeze 1.103 hp per lb out of their engine instead of merely 0.945, they'd be up at 583 hp. Z06's engine costs $12k and produces 505hp, while the M6's costs roughly $45k.
The Z06's engine is much more efficient as well and it's also a smaller package (length, width, height). Compare torque, and the numbers are even more in the Z06's favor.
the vette has 2000cc more than the M6 and 1100 lb and two seats less than the M6 so i don't think it was a fare race. I think though the M6 keept the ZO6 pretty close

the M has 4 bigger cams, and everything they could put on it,,still lost, really good run, but jus imagine if the Z-06 had one upgraded cam, the yellow would simply disappear from the cameras view
My honest opinion to share: Both cars are respectable in a straight line, the BMW is a much more dynamic car over all,and in stock forms, Beemer will outhandle the shit out of the vette on a road course and the interiors are no comparison, vette is mostly plastic. Non stock suspension Vettes do win a lot of GT races but for the average driver(non pro) the BMW is better (safer) for handling. Both cars are beasts and anyone that hates on either probably drives a Honda econobox POS.

Wow, I am a die hard beamer fan and I cant believe what im hearing here. Yes the bmw is a beauty that has the best of luxury and performance, but the corvette has always been about nothing else but performance, PERIOD!
LSX engines are the best motors out there. Despite the displacement, these motors are simple and very efficient in both fuel and power. As far as handling, have any of you guys driven a z06? Those things handle very well. The beamer is e-z to handle but the vette isnt horrible.

Also as a Ferrari fan, i will tell you the 458 Italia is faster (over-all) than a ZR-1. I'm not saying the 458 is faster on Nurburgring BUT if you look at all the other tracks it has raced on the 458 is faster more often than not than a ZR1. Plus the 458 is faster 0-150-0mph.

Your comparison between the Zr-1 and the 458 italia is flawed because the 2012 ZR1 has not yet been around every track the 458 has. Its been around the Nurburgring and the Laguna in which it posted faster lap times. And the Viper ACR vs. the 458. They've only been on 3 similar tracks. In which the Viper posted faster lap time on all 3.

And I do find it interesting that the same thing happened to Warren Mosler not that long ago when he was winning in Europe. But speaking of the british/american effort. The Hennessey Venom GT is a big disappointment in my book. Mainly because of the price tag. And I also thought that Hennessey should have redesigned the interior or atleast have it redesigned by someone else.

@namybot: The only time price starts to bother me about a car, is when I think its been over priced. The Hennessey Venom GT is priced at roughly 8 to 900 grand. After TTL (tax title and Licensing). The car is over a million dollars and the interior looks like it was pieced together at the last minute. Thats unacceptable for a car with that price. John Hennessey (one of my favorite extreme tuners) could have had a better product if he had just simply put a little bit more thought into this car.

Audi has won Le Mans 10x in the past 11yrs. BMW have been winning 24hrs Dubai and Nurburgring Ferrari have been all over the place winning everything. @V8Supercar1 I was trying to point out the fact of a V8 vs V8. Your SSC are shit anyway over 1200hp and still struggling to hit 250mph. We Europeans have the Agera R 0-200mph in 14secs and 264mph with 1100hp. We also have the Bugatti SS 267mph beast, ring any bells.
In case you haven't noticed you mention S7tt, you want me to mention GallardoTT with 1500hp or the Porsche 9ff with 900hp 247mph?<------ with 900hp ;P

@namybot: I don't know what you are getting at. But the Ultimate Aero did its top speed run on a 2.5 mile straight of stretch on a public highway. The Veyron did its run on a perfectly paved track with a 5 mile straight. That is a big difference. Not too mention the Aero did the 1/4 mile at 9.9 secs which is right on par with the Veyron SS. Don't mention the Gallardo TT because its not a production car. Its a modified car.

Whats funny is that the z06 has some wheels on it and the BMW has Camshaft work done, header work done, some serious engine work.. THE z06 HAS SOME WHEELS w/gun metal center caps.. z06 has like a 7.0or something v8 and produces like 505hp, while the m6 only has a 5.0v10 and still produces 507hp. Thats good engineering right there. Plus a luxury 4 seater heavier car did pretty good against a lightweight 2 seater sports car.

This vette generates more power 487RWHP and the BMW 445RWHP, thats a bit more, than the BMW weights 340kg more than a Z06, thats a huge difference in my opinion!!

But if this race took place in the US, the M6 with that aftermarket package, (Kelleners is not cheap!) would be a complete waste of money. The M5/M6 is not the greatest car in thw world. They are WAY cheap now in the US but heir mpg is terrible, worse than the ZR1, the tranny is loud as all hell, the exhaust sounds like you are choking chewbaca, the car is not worth ther MSRP imo

Agree with you the BMW is not a cheap car but we have other tuners, G-power as a example... In germany the M6 cost 40k Euros LESS than a ZR1 and you get the better car in quality and get a better resaleprice. both countries are different, the ZR1 is only in USA a good buy because the low price there.
the MPG is 11/17, not the best, but remember the weight!!! the Z06 is 15 (city) and 24 (highway)

The Z06's 7 liter engine is 458 lbs (1.103 hp per lb). The M6's 5 liter engine is 529 lbs. Imagine if BMW managed to squeeze 1.103 hp per lb out of their engine instead of merely 0.945, they'd be up at 583 hp. Z06's engine costs $12k and produces 505hp, while the M6's costs roughly $45k.
The Z06's engine is much more efficient as well and it's also a smaller package (length, width, height). Compare torque, and the numbers are even more in the Z06's favor.

My honest opinion to share: Both cars are respectable in a straight line, the BMW is a much more dynamic car over all,and in stock forms, Beemer will outhandle the shit out of the vette on a road course and the interiors are no comparison, vette is mostly plastic. Non stock suspension Vettes do win a lot of GT races but for the average driver(non pro) the BMW is better (safer) for handling. Both cars are beasts and anyone that hates on either probably drives a Honda econobox POS.
