I've listened to "Calling All Stations" a few times. Some songs are good, others not so good. Ray Wilson has a great voice, but it's not really suited for Genesis. I think there are only two people who should be singing for Genesis, Ray isn't one of them
he's not bad to be honest but that album Calling All Stations was a big fail, sounded quite good but sold hardly any albums. I prefer the old genesis with Phil in the late 70's going into the eighties.
wow good job. This is overall my favorite genesis song, and believe me, that's a hard pick.there are so many great ones. I saw them live in Houston back when and I think about it just about everyday how wonderful and magical they were.
I love this guy's voice, I know it must be some sort of sacrilege, but I have to say that I like this song better with this voice - I think it fits very well with the song, and the voice is beautiful, I will definitely search for more songs sung by him now!
i give this guy credit. good singer and it isnt HIS fault phil left for a short while. i thought ray wilson put good input into the band for the time he was in.
Disturbed cover imo but without this disturbed wouldn't of had it so its kool since genesis wrote it but i like wat disturbed did with it disturbed for ever :P
Wow. I love the original and loooooooooove the video, however, without comparing this group to Phil Collins & Genesis, I really liked them a lot. Something about them struck me.
This genesis is completely different than the old genisis.
Different drummer + different singer = different sound.
Therefore this Genesis is different than the past two Genesises... The first being with Gabriel and Hackett, The second is the pop-based one with Collins as the frontman. This is the third genesis with Ray Wilson.
So I'm saying that Genesis did it better than Genesis, because they are different.
Another recent example of people ripping off other musicians is the current release of "Forever Young" There is a Rod Stewart Song with the same title, however the current rip off that is circulating is the "Forever Young" Originaly By Alphaville in the 80's. I already caught a couple of guys singing it and they could not believe me when I told them it was a remake of the huge 80's Hit From the band Alphaville. So sad to see people make money off of other musicians hits.
i like his voice. he's not trying to be phil or peter. he sounds great on the chorus. he actually had a hit with genesis called congo. its a good one.
Wtf. What do you mea "yes"? How does that asnwer his question? Ioper11... it was the same reason Steve left really... he didn't like the band environment anymore.
Mm no that's not right... he did say he missed it. It was... well after writing Both Sides, he wrote it in very much the same way he did with Face Value. And he found that's how he always wants to write, so he left to do that. It was also something like he didn't like singing other people's lyrics anymore.
Let a band evolve, for crying out loud. It's not like they fired Phil, he decided to leave.....Mike and Tony had every right to move on and evolve the band.
I agree. It gave them a chance try new things. I like to think of the Calling All Stations album as an album that would have bridged Genesis back in the prog rock direction. It has pop/prog mix but they probably would have gone more prog if they made the next album that they were under contract to make with Ray.
Shut up! And you call yourself a Genesis fan! Tony is the true sound of Genesis, in my opinion. But they're all awesome, every one of them makes Genesis. And in fact Mike and Tony wrote most of the songs... Phil was just the guy who helped put it together!!!!
No NO NO....!!! YES THIS IS A GENESIS SONG. Disturbed Covered it. I bothers me so much when newer artists make their money off of other artists music, and then people who don't know the original artist think that it is the a Brand New Song! Especialy a great song like this done by Phil Collins. IT WAS A MASSIVE HIT IN THE 80's WHEN IT CAME OUT.
What a statement! You're absolutely right... It was the same with a Phil Collins song called "Another day in paradise" covered by Brandy and Ray J when everybody said, "What a new song!"...
Very few singers can sound as good as the original singer did but I don't blame Mike & Tony for playing it cuz it was huge hit for them. I also think Ray did a pretty good job here & it's really interesting to hear his version of it. But all in all I definitely prefer Phil's vocals cuz you just can't beat the original singer of the song.
Ok... I really like Ray's voice, but as far as him singing Phil-era Genesis songs, I give him a thumbs down. When he was lead singer, they should've done Peter-era Genesis songs. It would be much more fitting with his voice.
i dont agree... peter has a much brighter voice than this guy.. that wont fit either... actually peter and phill sound litter bit the same in one kind of way
He is a good singer, but the problem with him is he isn't getting the audience into it and pumped like Phil did. Phil always involved the audience in the chorus by pointing the mic their way having them say the "oooohhhhh" parts. But as far as Ray's voice, he is good, but he lacks intensity.
ok dude stfu, disturbed version of this song kicks ass, so does genesis original, and system of a down r awesome too, (but disturbed are the best band ever)
anyway, this sounds shitty without the original vocalist back from when the song came out (sorry dont know the name)
Not a bad singer at all. I find it pretty interesting to hear. He has a certain rawness to his voice that phil lacks, but phil's voice has waaay more power. Besides that, Ray doesn't seem to know how to entertain a crowd. He's trying hard though... :)
I don't think that Collins, Rutherford and Banks care one iota, because every time that Disturbed sings their song, no matter how poorly, it puts money in their pockets.
As Phil Collins, the co-composer of the song was not with Genesis at the time this filmed version was made...even so it is far superior to the very poor "cover" that disturbed has out now.
It really bothers me that all people under 25 do not know this, and think the inderior Disturbed COVER is the original. Even this is not the original Genesis that oroginally performed the song....
