  • no HD?

  • definately NOT a hybrid...IM amazed at the number of people that dont really understand the technology. Im no expert but I get it.

  • I'll say it once more for effect.

In 1918 Detroit Electric made an electric car that got a range of 50 miles.

This has a range of 35 on electric only.

Combined, the vehicle gets 35-40mpg. In 1977 the Chevy Chevette got 43mpg hwy and 31 city!!!

This car isn't an improvement, just expensive eye candy.

  • @allteeth But, if Chevy made a modern day Chevette with 45 mpg it would have to be a hybrid to get that economy and still be fast enough to not be dangerous on the road.

  • for every Volt sold the Taxpayers of america is handing out another $7500 Bailout money

tell me how the government "makes" money

  • @emforty2 How about the fact we will save our oil reserves longer with mass use of vehicles like this. Your view is too narrow, this car is one pawn on the board. there is also wind, solar, hydrogem energy sources. This car won't save the government jack shit but it is a necessary cost to get the public informed about there options. Personally I'll just buy a 500cc motorcycle and get way better gas mileage and still drive my sports car.

  • all this said and done, does anyone have 40k to spare on this volt?

  • Ugly and expensive. What a combination!

  • @SierraM363 the looks are designed to be very very aurodynamic but it looks a whole lot better 2 me and is more practical then the nissan leaf or the prius

  • My trip to work and home again is 50 miles. This car will not make it on just battery power. And then a small car the same comparable size as a Cobalt is to small for me. With the huge price tag, GM's not going to sell many of these cars, in my opinion.

  • Well, if you figure that you get 40 miles already on electric mode. You are just traveling the extra 10 miles which on a Chevrolet Volt is only $1.00. To charge your car at night it's just $1.25. Therefore you are driving 50 miles the entire day for just $2.25. That is a WHOLE LOT cheaper than a regular gasoline car.

  • i love the GM cars made in Mexico, my Avalanche was made in mexico, i love my truck. Ever been to Mexico?? (Not border cities, they're full of american crossers which are usually nasty ass criminals). It's beautiful there, nothing compared to USA. I love my country but eh, i'd give it up if i could work GM in MX This seems like a problem betwween u two, so c'mon leave good places out of it, (USA, MX, CA) Oh but by the way, Ford suxx, just throwing that out there lol i wish the best for GM.

  • It's not supposed to be a performance car, it's supposed to be a gas saver? $40,000? Looks like the rich benefit right off the bat. But I don't think gas is an issue when you can drive a $40,000 car. I spend $800 a year on Gas. It would take me 50 years to spend $40,000 on gas. I'll pass. Let's not forget it's almost in the 50,000$ after tax and dealer fees and that you're fucked when the warranty expires.

  • @Xuzial Wow you really need to educate yourself before posting something! The car will actually costs $41k, then after $8k from the Goverment it will cost $33k. How will a car jump from $40k to $50k with taxes and dealer fees I have no idea, thats such a stupid comment.

You can actually lease one for $350/month with $2k down, and that is very affordable to the "normal" american.

  • @sossegado01 Taxes+dealer fees add an additional 3-4K depending on which state you live in. So this 41K car is now 43-44 K minus 8K from Govt which puts it to 36. If you decide to get that car on a 6 year term, it comes out to around 600 a month. I'm sorry but the "Average" american doesn't bring in that much extra income. Average american spends $1600 a year on gas. OR 3 car payments from this car..OR if leased 5. Not worth it unless its paid in full or a huge down payment.

  • you still have to put gas in it? so its just another hybrid, POS! I use to have a VW Jetta TDI that gave me 50ish mpg's and i got more boost out of it through tubing and a intake kit/ exhaust. it hauldazz! i ran a 14.2 at 106mph 1/4mile at the track. add TIEN suspention and a set of BBS LM wheels....whooo i love that car.... but im a supercharged e39 ///M5 guy now...FUK TREES!

  • @dickcheese663 VW makes shitty low quality mexican made cars.

  • @KennyboyGM LOL what an ass crack..... my car is at the body shop and they gave me a 2011 Chevy Impala rental........... EVERY part has a sticker that has the part number and MADE IN MEXICO on it. i would rather have a german car built in mexico than a Buick or Chrysler anything made by fat ass americans...... Mata los gueros!

  • @dickcheese663

Fat ass Americans? Mexicans are the fattest. smelliest, pig eating mestizos ppl on the planet!

Chevy Impala is made in Canada, cheesehead. All parts are American and Canadan Fool.

  • @KennyboyGM made in canada isn't any better.....bunch of f-ink pot heads in canada. mexicans in america are the smelliest, but not in mexico it self. i would rather live in extra modern ass Guadalajara or Monterrey than in retard ass anywhere in mississippi alabama georgia... the south! dont compare a impala to a vw CC or a chevy volt to a GS450h.... government motors is going down, let them just keep the corvette. dude, the car is made in canada with parts from mexico. parts good/car bad

  • @dickcheese663

Listen cheesehead. The Euros, Japs, Koreans, all have manufacturing plants in the south where rednecks and hillbillies reside. So your driving a car made by fat hillbillies. The real American cars are built up north by educated, sophisticated, and good looking People. Mexicans are mixed, just like you, you mestizo.

  • @KennyboyGM ok dude.... a e39 M5 isn't made in kentucky. i lived in Brunswick ohio for 6 years. Sophistication is not the word that describes the hicks out shooting guns and riding motorcross in michigan, ohio, indana, and penn. I cant stand red texas either. Cars are built everywhere. its not about hipsters and rednecks. its imports and domestic. Besides ford and the corvette, i cant see it. I'm a lexus master tech ase master with L1. My wife is a pediatrician from mx city. r u just a racist?

  • @KennyboyGM actually im done with you...i have a life... the chevy volt sales report will answer this debate. dont preach educated and sophistication when you type racist shit. im white/hisp my wife is mex, we both lived in Munich, now living in texas. da white people here are kind or mega racist. da mexicans are gansters or genuine, the blacks are really successful or really over all bad. But we all live together and have to when N. korea attacks. import cars rule, domestic trucks rule

  • First it was all electric , then it wasn't going to be made, now it's going to be made but is a hybrid WTF who is going to pay 41000 for a hybrid

  • i want one .wind mill baby

  • Just be happy that the ball is rolling on EV,s and ERV,s this is how tech is developed, and the US need's the jobs!

  • why is it that gm had the EV1 over ten years ago that could go up to 100 miles per charge and now it's only 40?????

they are in bed with the oil companies

  • @doceanboy why don't you do everyone a favor and get over the conspiricy theories. The ev1's cost over $150k eacha dn teh volt cost a lot less with smaller batteries.

  • @doceanboy didnt the oil companies buy the patents for the ev1?

  • sweet!

  • Ugly, better looking than the Prius though. 40 miles on a charge is pathetic though. Why did they not Use the batteries from the EV1?

  • @zoticus1 40 miles is more than enough to get people to work and home without using a drop of gas. There's an additional 300 miles of range with a full gas tank too. Not bad, I'd say.

  • I like the car but that dash is pretty stupid. Touch sensitive buttons? I'd like my tactile feedback please, ESPECIALLY in a car where I'd like to have my eyes on the road/lights as much as possible while fiddling with the radio or airco.

  • What's the mileage?

    The best by a gazillion.

    How fast is the recharge?

Short enough.. or get this- don't worry about it because the only thing the gas engine does is recharge the battery faster than you'll use it. Just remember this, the full range in real world conditions with just 6 gallons of gas is about 400miles.

    Do the math.

  • The concept car looked cooler, it was more aggressive, and the dash looked classier. At least it still looks cooler than the Prius. I hope it's not a slug.

  • @MyRepresentativeOrg I see they don't like to hear the truth here - they call it SPAM. Bah!

  • I want one and I'm far from being a hippie or fan of the Prius. In fact, I hate the Prius - it's fugly and I won't support Japanese brands. Nice job GM!

  • "DMC4200" You're insulting me for saying my on opinion on what kind of cars? I bet you are one of those fucktarded hybrid drivers. Pulling up in your cars thinking you're saving the fucking earth. Why does it fucking matter to you what other people think of hybrids?

  • i didnt hear shit. if you drive with no music you probably hear a noise but who drives with no usic this idiot

  • your a deush bag hommie. people that drive hybrid put gas once or twice amonth getting 40 + mpg's.

    grow up

  • why cant some one do a 0-60 and a 0-100 in this car i want to see that

  • or how about, will it even go 100?

  • On another note you might be saving the air. Won't you be destroying the earth (ground) when your hybrid dies out? Where are going to put the hybrid's battery? The ground. Battery acid? That's what I'm thinking. Personally I just don't like hybrids or electric cars. Gas all the way. Also fuck diesel.

According to Wikipedia, and other sources I found on Google. The Volt's price is upward of 32K, and estimated to be near 40K.

  • NigguhJason, There is no acid in the Volt's biodegradable battery. You are just a tool of big oil.

  • It does not matter what the reviewer thinks of the interior, because its all bias. Personally I think the interior is ugly. The center console is white, and it just sticks out, which in my mind needs to blend in more.

I think I saw a few comments saying this car is cool. While I value your opinion, but I don't agree, because I personally think hybrids are not cool.

Hybrid owners buy the car to pull up next to you, and look at you to imply look I'm better than you I'm saving the earth.

  • at least its a chevy

  • how come the head looks like a Honda Civic ... and the body looks like an insight ...

  • because GM is now trying to trick people into buying one of there cars by making them look like a popular competitor. haha

  • The volt looks awesome! I'm glad it has a digital dash.

  • looks like a toyota prius, all car makers need to stop copying other car desings

  • honda fcx clarity is the way to go=)

  • t0rq21, the Honda FCX cost $1 million each to build. That's why Honda only leases them, if they sold them they would have to charge you a million bucks.

  • wooot?!

    didnt know that :O

  • @ndyt

Nope. The Clarity is under pre-production for trials. Chevy is rushing with the Volt, which could potentially backfire.

  • @JeremyFuhenstasser, Nope what? What are you saying no to?

  • @ndyt

I mean the Volt may be rushing things too fast.

  • @JeremyFuhenstasser, what are they moving too fast on? I have been watching the Volt since the prototype and it seems like they are going painfully slow to me.

  • @ndyt

It seems to me Volt is a PR and they are not gonna build it. Big Oil already bribed GM, it seems?

  • @JeremyFuhenstasser, Not going to build it? So the plant tooling up is just smoke an mirrors? Have you seen gm-volt (dot) com ?

  • @ndyt

    I said maybe not.

  • @JeremyFuhenstasser, oh, and the sun might not come up tomorrow.

  • @ndyt

Of course it might not. Nothing in the future is for certain until it happens.

  • @JeremyFuhenstasser, so, your original statement was completely vacuous.

  • @ndyt

Nope. I said the Volt may not be built, which is valid.

  • @JeremyFuhenstasser, but that is a meaningless statement because just about anything MIGHT not happen.

  • @ndyt And the FCX is only avaliable in southern Cali.

  • @Motorfordtoyota, They are leasing ONLY 50 of them for $600/month in S. Cali ONLY. Doesn't sound very "available" to me! XD

  • the gas motor does not drive the car and the generator is from Honda, it powers the battery not the drive line the gas motor can recharge the battery faster that the 220 volt outlet in your house with less fossil usage. The plugin is a product of Delphi automotive so it wont be standard 3 prong plug but hell 6gals of gas per every 450miles not bad better than any gas powered car , including a hybrid. This is a electric powered car and electricity to drive the wheels . Thanks raiderz111 !!!!!!!!!!

  • lol why is honda supplying the competition?

  • Honda has had many agreements with GM including Saturn. They are not supplying competition if the competitors are not selling their car in the US market. Just to be clear the fcx is a hydrogen car not electric , and have fun the hydrogen yield to energy to produce that hydrogen is 1:8 ratio

  • Pauliepsi, the generator is not from Honda, where did you get that misinformation?

  • misinformation , go read some more official sites before you criticize a contractual fact. It has been said multiple times , Honda has always produced specialty engines for GM

  • Pauliepsi, can you provide a link showing that Honda makes the Volt's ICE? I googled and only found that GM as a plant just for the Volt engine.

The FCX is electric, it uses the fuel cell to make electricity to run the electric motor and to charge its battery. A fuel cell vehicle is an ER-EV.

  • Stop posting. You have no idea what you are talking about.

  • okay, but it's a little weird that in that one gm commercial, they were making fun of honda lol (the part where they brought up the honda lawnmower). anyways, i'm not a fanboy of honda by any means. just saying

  • MrPaparazzziii, oh I have seen that commercial, you didn't get it - they were trying to make fun of people that would buy a car from a lawnmower company.

  • lol i get what ur trying to do. but, then why is a ''lawnmower'' company beating them in sales IN THEYRE OWN YARD (pun intended)?

  • MrPaparazzziii, I didn't say their ad was good, I thought it was stupid since everyone knows Honda lawnmowers are great.

  • why is everyone copying the civic's styling when designing a compact car???

  • Mazda does not. :)

  • MrPaparazzziii, it is a very aerodynamic shape.

  • Because Honda's crappyness is like a virus.

  • wow.. with all the hype, i was expecting the volt to be able to fly :-D

  • That video really told us a lot of nothing.

  • lol @ Borla exhaust ad to the right

  • "We're hoping to answer a few questions today. First and foremost, how much noise does the engine's generator produce?"

When you rarely shut up and when you finally do there is cheesy driving music playing, it's really hard to tell with our own ears. WTF?!

  • lol it has a better interior than a vette

  • needs a turbo sport version with 220hp with a 400lb/ft torque electric motor

  • That noise is still well within the range of what's acceptable considering what the vehicle is capable of.

  • Hmm, maybe chevy will take bake all these cars and destroy them like they did with the Saturn EV1, search who killed the electric car on youtube, can watch the whole movie, it's good.

  • gunzkevin, they could take back the EV1 because they were all leased. The Volt is going to be sold so they cant take them back.

  • ¡buena caballo!

  • definitely a cooler alternative to a prius!

  • looks so awesome

  • nice copy of a Civic lol

  • And its like one too, i love the dumb americans are marketing it as an "electric car" when it still has a petrol motor....sounds like a hybrid to me.

  • Whats dumb is NOT realizing that the Volt is powered primarily by the Electric motor and the 4 cylinder engine is used to recharge the batteries.

  • Yeah i know that. Its still a fucking gas/electric hybrid. Two motors are used to help propel the car.

  • raiderz111, no, you can go 40 miles without using any fuel. The ICE is only if you go over 40 miles.

  • Ok, and isnt it still using fossil fuels if you travel more than 40 miles? You are still creating pollutants in the air and still going to use fossil fuels.

This isnt solving or helping the problem hydrogen is the way to go, they need to quit marketing it as a fucking electric car when it isnt. Its a hybrid.

  • The gas engine never drives the wheels directly, it generates electricity for the electric motor....not a hybrid

  • yea its a hybrid, if you knew wat hybrid means, then you wouldnt have posted your comment

  • @NismoPWNS

I'm in an auto course and im doing a volt vs. prius project bro. The prius is a parallel system, the internal combustion engine turns the wheels directly in the prius (hybrid), the volt is a series system, the electric motor turns the wheels, when the gas engine kicks in, all it does is generate electricity for the electric motor, it isn't a hybrid, it's and Extended Range Electric vehicle....E-REV not hybrid......if you knew what E-REV is....you wouldn't have posted ur comment

  • dude, its a hybrid cause it has another motor to keep it running, the generator.hybrid means theres two ways to keep the car going. If it wasnt a hybrid, it would only go up 40 miles on a single charge. So its a hybrid + E-REV

  • @michael76567

    Right On TELL EM!!LOL

  • @michael76567 Yes if you want to get technical, but an E-REV is a narrower category in the hybrid family. If you weren't so anal you would have never posted ur comment. There is different types so hybrids! as long it has a gas engine of some sort it's a hybrid. If it is all electric then it would be an EV.

  • @Vallecaucanisimo If you come back here and read the whole conversation you'd realize that the guy I was talking to deserved an anal reply, and that was five months ago buddy.....you're reading my comment out of context..

  • @michael76567

"when the gas engine kicks in, all it does is generate electricity for the electric motor"

you might want to check your facts on that statement after MSNBC engineers tested the volt they found out the engine is coupled with a planetary transmission to assist the wheels on high speed this is a big controversy as GM had not been honest about this.

  • @michael76567 ture amn I was like ehy is this guy saying hybrid, its a full electric car

  • raiderz111, no it is not using fuel for 80% of American's commute. NONE. That is HUGE. I am sorry you are so brainwashed by big oil that you cant see that.

  • @ndyt Yes that is a huge deal. However it will be a while since not all commuters have acces to a charging outlet. Most people live in apartments and park out on the streets.

  • looks like honda

  • At 1:32 there's a Corvette in the background

  • And a mini, and a civic.

  • And a Camaro! The best things in the video.

  • 1ST off I work for Acura Canada. Second off Hydrogen is the same price as regular petrol. Right now they have product FX Clarities in California, YOUTUBE IT, and these vehicle have no moving parts, and are alot closer than 30 years away. They do not cost a million dollars either. They are being leased right now by average americans for $600 a month. As for the volt, using electricty to power a car is going a step backward. Think of every car on the road being electric, and every1 charging 24 7

  • Now imagine most of those electric cars charging through a SOLAR array....

  • By the time we see the 1st generation of Fuel Cell Vehicles the Electric PPV's will be at the 3rd or fourth generation. And if there is a HUGE push to get solar power into the homes then recharging these vehicles will not impose much onto the energy grid. Which would mean the Fuel Cell vehicles being a niche vehicle.

  • davewhodavedunn, FX Clarities are leased to avg people? Total BS! Only hand picked select few, mostly celebrities. Hydrogen is the same price as gas? Total BS! You have make it from natural gas currently. If you make it from water it takes 5 times the energy you get back out of it. And they do cost a million to make, the fuel cell itself cost $300K, the tank cost over $100K because it has to take 5000-10000 PSI. Yes, how would you like a 5000 PSI hydrogen tank in your car? Not me!

  • In reality a Hydrogen fuel cell engine is not that much more efficient than a regular gas burning engine. When converting it's fuel into energy a gas engine waste around 2/3 rds. of its fuel in the process. The advantages a fuel cell vehicle has is that its a completely clean process and the by product is water. BUT you still need a HUGE distribution system of stations.

  • Seems to me he was struggling to say something nice.

  • firmer than a prius??? that doesnt mean anything!! a 86 datsun is firmer than a prius

  • the prius sucks in general, u stick ur hand out the window and it turns!

  • looks more fun than a prius..

  • Too bad the interior sucks ...

  • I want one

  • Sorry GM using electricty to power a car with an expensive battery that will cost more than the car when it needs to be replaced is NOT the way of the future. The HONDA FX Clarity is. Using hydrogen is the way to go, its the worlds most abundent source. Using electricy is a bad idea, putting stress on our grids, and where are those batteries going when they are drained, and dead and dont work? A LANDFILL...Not aint green!

  • davewhodavedunn, obviously you work for Big Oil. The battery will be cheap once it is mass produced. The FX Clarity is a fuel cell vechile, FCVs are at least 30 years away, they currently cost $1 MILLION each to build even with mass production. Hydrogen is the most expensice fuel. There is tons of electrical capacity in the grid if we charge at night. The batteries are recyclable and wont go in a landfill. Go back the Saudi sheiks that are paying you.

  • They are actually saying that you can use the battery in ur house as an energy storage device when u have to take it out of the volt, it'll still hold like 12 kWh....after that....THEN it goes in the landfill ha

  • roflmao @ the shift gear XD

  • The Volt's success boils down to 2 things:

    1) Cost: Purchase, Ownership & Energy (gas & electric)

    2) Cool factor (yes, it's cool!)

Hey GM; Turn off the range-extender when the car is not moving and offering white-noise and driving distraction.

  • Scenario:

You are CEO of a bankrupt automobile company that was bailed out by your country's taxpayers in a free market economy. You have been promising an electric car for 5-years now and have been talking about it SO much that most of your competition will be offering electric cars before your company does. Now you finally have one, but you are waiting another year to bring it to market.

Are consumer's (the people you laid off and took tax money from) supposed to be impressed?

  • nice car and like VeeKain said, the biggest question is price. I heard GM wanted to sell it for 20 grand, but they had to make it about 30-35 grand.

  • "Frankly," I think the kid aspires to be John Davis from Motorweek.

  • hybrids are a joke. there not even that economical. if you want to be green go buy a diesel.

  • jerrry13157, this car can go 40 miles on the HIGHWAY without using any oil. As long as you drive less then 40 miles per charge you never use a drop of oil. Lets see your diesel do that.

  • for how much it costs to own and fix a hybrid, a diesel seems like a better investment.........the extra 10 or so miles is not worth it! The money u put in repairs for a hybrid surpasses that u save in gas!

  • Out here in VA, you are going to drive 40 miles no matter where you are going. At least for a daily commute to work and back, guaranteed. My problem with these hybrids is replacing the battery. They don't last forever. I've heard figures of up to $10k to replace them. I honestly don't know what the price is going to be, but at least with a diesel, this is not an issue.

Sure, you save on gas with the battery use, but you are eventually going to pay for it when you replace the battery.

  • gjmvi, The Volt's battery is a new design that is made to last at least 10 yrs, be cheap to mass produce and be recyclable. It remains to be seen if they achieve these goals but I am willing to give them a shot at it. To me, it is not strictly a cost analysis. To me it is important that I am not sending my $ to the MiddleEast and no CO2 in the air. 40 miles is enough for about 80% of Americans, the next gen will have a longer range. We have to start somewhere or there wont be a next gen.

  • forget about driving it in the first place dumbscrub

the production of a hybrid such as the prius causes much environmental damage. This car still uses petrol, is probably more expensive, and not as good as a diesel

  • warhawkpro, the Volt only uses petrol/gas if you go more then 40 miles before you charge it. If you keep your trips bellow 40 miles you never have to put fuel in it. Lets see your diesel do that.

  • ppl need to forget about hybrids. the cost way too much own and fix.....my aunt's had to pay almost 5 grand to get an electronic related problem fixed on her pruis she has had for less than a year!!....ppl dont understand that an average mechanic is not familiar wit hybrid technology! its either foot the hefty bill from the dealership or play try and error with mechanic.....HYBRIDS R BAD NEWS! u dont have to drive a hybrid to be fuel efficient...trade in the truck and drive slower!

  • MakeLoveNoBabiez, if she had it less then a year why wasn't it covered under warranty?

  • @ndyt: Good question....I know she's had it for a year but i dont know if she got it brand new wit full warranty. it might have been used!..i wonder if her insurance helped wit the bill? Idk! unfortunately i dont have an answer!

  • @ndyt When you purchase a new vehicle, the entire vehicle is not under warranty. Only specific parts designated by the manufacturer are covered under the warranty.

  • twolf422, nomrally, the ENTIRE electrical system is under manufacturer warranty. It is only things like brake pads that are not under warranty. So, I say again, why wasn't it under warranty? What part was it?

  • @ndyt I have worked for Hyundai, Mitsubishi, and Honda, The entire electrical system is NOT always covered. You will be surprised as to what is not covered on a new car. Hybrids were not around when I worked at these dealers. It makes sense to me that the batteries would be covered. But that may not be the case. Plus, we don't have all of the info. If her batteries were bad and not covered, she may have purchased a used vehicle with little or no warranty.

  • twolf422, then the claim that the car was only a year old is designed to make the car look bad. There is nothing unusual about an old used car needing expensive work.

  • She probably had a really old Prius, in that case she should know the batterys don't last forever.

  • WHAT the fuck r u talking about! no car battery lasts forever. secondly, we both don't know how old the car nor wat the electrical problem was! U brain shud be alive and sensible since its early! don't sound stupid!

  • why does it matter if it has engine noise? don't cars make engine noise anyway ?

  • and perhaps it was the video, but i didn't really hear much when he was stationary, did you?

  • Lol squishy suspension

  • he said firmer than a prius. Well that is not saying much!

  • biggest question: price

  • 34,595

  • once you pass the front fenders, the rest of the car is hideous

  • omg he looks like brandon flowers!

  • he does!

  • It has the same shape as a Prius and a Insight.

  • probably thats where they got their inspiration from

  • it's called proper aerodynamics. It was refined in the wind tunnel, so the end result as far as shape is no coincidence.

  • It looks like a Honda civic from far away and even up close until you see badge or the back of it.

  • Looks good.
