  • is that the guy from dual survival??

  • @jacker372 yes

  • >>-----------(knee)--------->

  • @milotis he has scissors in his mutitool

Not everyone prefers scissors for tasks like that

  • what type of quiver is that and how could i make one if possible.

  • a pair of small scicsors is not a bad idea in the woods

  • i used to have a bow like you, but then i shot my sister in the knee

  • Dave you are the man. Did you ever make the video on making metal broadheads. If so could you send me the link or make the video. Thanks brother and god bless you and your family

  • Is that a surge or wave?

  • what size dowl rods and how much weight could you shoot them from with them out breaking and going threw your hand

  • would a 5/16 work its just a hair smaller in diameter

  • it sounds like a war zone out there planes flying over gun shots and he is totaly calm lol

  • @LittlePeiceOfHeaven7 its just a 22

  • You sir, are genius!! Love your videos

  • Your freakin' amazing at what you do... GOD Bless....

  • and arrows..

  • do you cell bows?

  • Thank you, I really appreciate the info! Love my Bear Recurve!

  • yay dave and cody rule the wild and this was a pretty good video.

  • Interesting, I recently got a long bow and I've already lost 2 of my dad's 6 dollar aluminum arrows, so this will help me save the money, considering I don't have access to any more than the one I have left.

  • I love the videos, you are a knowledgeable man, what multi tool are you using?? and is that a tanto blade i see??

  • -_- he said the bomb... lol

  • nice one!

  • what poundage the bow?

  • I'd love to put a live shell with extra powder and no pellets on the tip of one of those...

  • I used to make arrows, then I took an arrow to the knee...

  • @DJ4321120 If that happened to Dave, he would just look down at it smirk then brake the tail end of the arrow and push the arrow all the way through. After that he would just spit on the little boo boo and wrap his favorite bandanna around it and continue on his way! ;)

  • @dragonm8168 Yeah - then phone Rambo and ask if he's coming out to play as well!

  • @chas4551 Didn't you here both Rambo and the Terminator spent a day hanging out with Dave but the next day they both ended up at the hospital for shoulder surgery!

  • @DJ4321120 i used to make skyrim references like you, but then i got a life and i started learning about survival and other things cuz it would bring benefits unlike skyrim and its popular references

  • @DJ4321120 i used to make arrow to the nee jokes but then i realize thy wernt funny anymore

  • Every once in a while, I come across something on youtube that makes me really stop & say WOW. This is one of those times... Thanks so much for your skills and showing them. I've been a traditional archer for 10 years & never seen as cool and easy way to make an arrow when needed out on the trail. Thanks!

  • AWESOME! Just "effin'" Awesome, sir!

  • wow i need to get me a recurve just for the cheap arrows lol ive seen a lot of your videos and always learn something new thank you for taking the time to make them oh yeah and tell cody lundine to wear some boots we know hes a tough hippie hes shown that lol

  • a bow like that one costs more than 200€ in my country.

  • You did not teach them which direction is the best for cutting that notch. Notch must be cut across the grain. Notch with the grain and you have a lovely stake that you may well split on the bow and drive through your forearm. Other woods are better, there is a dowel wood called Ramen, very common, which it better than oak dowel. Also you can make nock points with dental floss like we did back in the '60's. You can use the floss to reinforce nock too, tie fletch down, even make bowstring.

  • YOUR SON IS GOING TO BE THE FUCKING MAN!!!

  • cool also if you have pine doweling cut across the fibers for the nock

  • If you do not have materials to use as a tip for the arrow, you could always just sharpen the tip itself to a point. This is obvious. The part that is worth mentioning, is that you then need to fire harden the tip. This is accomplished by taking hot coals from a fire and covering the tip of the arrow. One should spin the arrow for a few seconds to harden it. Soaking the tip in water for a few minutes will lessen the chance of charring, which will weaken the wood, rather than strengthen it...

  • @caman5 ...ALSO, burning the arrow will require you start over. A few short treatments beats risking overexposing the wood and lighting your arrow on fire. You can always take the arrow out of the coals, re-soak it, and treat it again.

  • PAY ATTENTION THIS MAN HAS KNOWLEDGE .SALUTE MR.PATH FINDER.YOU ARE BLESSED GOD SPEED .

  • NOTHING IS WAISTED

  • Would 3/8" Fiberglass Fence Post rods work for arrow shafts?

  • wana know what comes to mind when he introduced the duckt tape....? redneck

  • wat happened to the guy from arizona

    cody right

  • wat happened to the guy from arizona

  • Minwax Helmsman satin in the spray can is really good stuff because it is a marine finish its totally waterproof

  • "Arrow Making for the Common Man" sounds like the perfect video for me!

  • I prefer to make the nock of the arrow using a nail heated in the fire, is faster and has the advantage of hardening wood. I make tons of arrow because I am recreacionist and my arrows are used plenty of times against hard targets.

Sorry for my English, I'm from Argentina

  • @Valherjes man dont say sorry you have better English than any foreigner i know you only spelled one thing wrong and even native speakers of our language do that all the time. hombre buen trabajo, cómos mi español

  • use electric tape on your eye bolt and your carabeaner so they dont rattle

  • dual survival.

  • LMAO...cut the corner off that one...cut the corner off that one...cut the corner off that one...good video tho. that part made me laugh lol. whoooooo.

  • who else heard the gunshots?

  • dos it actualy matter if you use camoflage or just a brown color... it seems like decoration only cus i see it just as bad as greenbrown in the bushes

  • nice tape

  • i love ur show

  • @Cowboyfromkettins - I am pretty sure pine is a poor choice as the wood is a soft wood. He used oak in the video for this one.

I think I may run out today and go try a few.

  • @tensixsixmedia pine sucks. tried it another few times, dowels at least are unreliable/inconsistent. considering trying pine branches to see if they are any better

  • Does anyone know what material i can easily make arrow shafts from in the UK?

  • Comment removed

  • I just fired some arrows i made from pine dowels from B&Q in Scotland. they broke, all of them.

  • He cut the corners off of all of them.

  • hunting for food is a respectable and honorable thing. If you are hunting just to kill, you need to be hunted. As to the difference between Compound and recurve, a compound is just easier to hold for longer periods of time if you are stand hunting or tracking game through heavy brush waiting for a clean shot. Arrow strength is very important. generally is it a good idea to go 10-20 pounds stronger on the arrow than the bow you are shooting. This reduces the chance the arrow will warp or shatter

  • This was a fantastic tutorial and excellent use of everyday items. If you had to make an arrow out of local North American Trees, which would be the best wood and the easiest to straighten? I have heard that dogwood is good for the straightness but am unsure.

  • is a 25-30 lb compound bow good for small game?

  • Comment removed

  • Comment removed

  • @MrgotPump depends on what range you take a shot from, but yeah, that'll do it mate. second to that is how brutal and/or large the arrowhead you're using is. I use a 28lb recurve and it's dropped from small to big, rabbit to 'roo.

  • videos like this are the best i've been making bows and arrows but after watching a coulpe of these videos the bows and arrows i make are so much better

  • is it lil brave 2

  • whats the name of the bow it self

  • Using the eye bolt to attach to the carabiner on the rope is a great idea.

I also like the duct tape fletchings you made.

  • Comment removed

  • hey Dave where did u get that shirt from its awesome, also, your videos are inspiring

  • @lilguy00100 he made it from a blanket...

  • try using 5/16ths oak its a little smaller

  • Fantastic!

  • i think its awesome you just go out in the middle of nowhere and set up your camera. did you ever mess up on anything?

  • could you use any dowells? or is there a certain kind

  • I shoot heavier poundage recurve and longbows. I am getting an 80 pounder, eventually 100. Do you think I am going to need specialty shafts? I don't really have the money to purchase expensive arrows, and the pre made specialty shafts aren't exactly cheap, and they are pretty much just dal rods. At the knock I would reinforce it with artificial sinew. The arrow heads would be specialty pre made bodkin arrowheads. I like your idea for fletchings, very clever.

  • @EthanJM buy shafts that are made for the weight for that bow or it could go very very bad

  • i make cheap field points by taking refrigerator copper or aluminum tubing and putting it over the front then crimping it to a point 3/8 tubing works perfect on 5/16 shaft

  • Do you put any twist on those vanes? also, does the arrow jump at all or does the tape wrinkle when the arrow hits the shelf, and can you put a threaded insert in the arrow to insert a screw in field point or broadhead.

  • that's a neat place to put a tattoo of your wifes name on your ring finger, cool idea!

  • sounds like your son was trying to bring down a bear with that pistol.

  • yea no i dont have any shot gun shells lieng around

  • i made some from 3/8" and 1/2" dowel rod and used them on a compound bow and they never broke, a 60 # compound and a 60 # recurve or longbow are both 60 #

  • Were did u get that arrow holder?

  • can i use electrical tap?

  • EXCELLENT stuff-keep it up...Nick.

  • is that ur house/hut in the backround?

  • i thought that you would make arrows with branches not already shapen wood.

  • just wondering but what happend to your overhang on the door of your spider shelter.........cody

  • i really enjoy all your videos. you're a great inspiration . thank you for sharing your expertise so generously.

  • this is the best homemade arrows ive ever seen i am going to subscribe and watch more b/c this is the bomb.......... :DD

  • could you sell some arrows with real feathers

  • could you just keep a pocket pencil sharpener in your bag to help tapering the arrow

  • maybe someone can explane to me why blunt tips seem to be required for smaller game instead of a broadhead or other pointed tip.

  • a bottle cap bent over in half onto the end of the shaft. The cap will bite into the wood and hold well. You can hammer a shape after and sharpen. Easy to carry as well. Great fletching idea.

  • can you sharpen the tip like you would a pencil

  • @jerkin1112 u can with a long longer shaft..but u need some weight on the tip for balancing flight

  • @5tonyvvvv what would i have to use if i would put weight on the tip?

  • @jerkin1112 a longer hard wood, or stone or bone point..if u use river cane,it fits naturally in the arrow, ive made them, what dont u understand?, try a fire hardened wood point, make it long so it balances. the natives still use them in south america

  • @5tonyvvvv im just 14 and i just started archery so i dont know that much about it.

  • @jerkin1112 Good Luck Kid, have fun experiment..You need to get the right materials, your arrow must be strait . and fletched correctly . River cane, birch, dogwood viburnum, make Excellent arrows! use goose or turkey feathers, from the same side of one wing..make stone arrowheads there free!, or use the bottom of glass bottles, be careful you can cut yourself real bad, even with stone points there razor sharp.

  • @jerkin1112 what kind of bow do you have? what is your draw weight? check out TatankaOhitika1 page, this dude is a master bow maker!

  • I have made arrow heads out of a penny or other change. just use some tin snips/metal shear, a hammer to pound the shape you want and a file and you got a 1 cent metallic arrow head.

  • hey man, have you ever killed a deer with those?

  • what weight is this bow

  • Hey dave like the videos. another shell that works well for blunt tips for small game are 38 special casings... they work well too!

  • Who the hell keeps shooting in the background? He's trying to kill you!!! You should launch an arrow at him!!

  • @primitivepathways He says it in the beginning. Its his son practicing with his gun.

  • What company is the camo duct tape made by?

  • Where did you buy your multi-tool? all i have a re swiss army knives.

  • what is the max draw you would go with when shooting river cane or dowel (primitive arrows)?

  • @danthman114 we make them all the way up to 32" we have discovered that river cane will hold up to most anything

  • Good job Dave! One small detail you left out. The nock groove must be cut perpendicular to the end grain to keep that shaft from splitting!

  • what kind of gloves are you wearing near to the end of the video?

also how thick would you say they are?

  • where can u buy that camo duct tape?

  • @davidk8888 Menards, Hobby Lobby, Wal-Mart, Gander Mountain, Cabelas...

  • i hear sombody shoting a gun

  • Dear squirrelhunterethan,

it sounds like his son with the .22 caliber handgun.

Or maybe it's just my ears...

  • LOL that could be an explosive arrowhead so easily..... (just no shot and powder in it.) Too cool though. Might need ta look into makin somethin like that. Arrows get costly...

  • Why wont it work for big game? to heavy?

  • ive shot arrows well with leaves for fletcing not fancy just stuck on twice and smoothed out its tmporary but it works

  • does the duck tape work as well as feathers and when you shoot the arrow wont the duck tape push the arrow in a different direction

  • Sweet Duck tape

  • Sweet Ducktape

  • great idea with the broadhead

  • dave after a little bit of experimentation i have found out that Gorilla tape works better than duct tape for fletchings but.... it is a little more expensive but makes better fletchings

  • outstanding... period.

but one question. do you cut it with the grain or across?

  • You shot my favorite energy drink Monster Java!!!

  • Did he say "The Bomb"?

  • Good job! The more I see about arrow making, the more appealing a longbow looks compared to the crossbow I got. Got any ideas on a 250lb recurve by any chance?

  • @rshighfill good lord! I think maybe you meant a 25lb?

  • @cramerrho - my bad, 225lb.. recurve crossbow

  • that would be cool to get a whole bunce of primers and put them in and shoot them make a boom

  • Dave. who is going to have that type shell with them?

Another video on youtube bowmaking uses bone or stone.

  • Great video! I love watching Dave and Cody's show Duel Survival. I think it is definitely one of the better survivalist shows out there.

  • @kevin770

    love the show.

    tomorrows show is bow hunting.

  • Dave your videos are great I appreciate the work you put into them. Just a thought, a couple years back Mythbusters did a show based on a theory that most indians hunted with just sharpened sticks as arrows and that the flint arrow heads were only used for very large game. With their tests they concluded that a sharpened stick has almost as much penetrating power as a flint head, but the flint head opened a larger wound on the animal for faster bleed out. Usefull info. in a survival situation.

  • thank you wildernessoutfitters you have taught me how to make easy fletchings with duct tape and I have been looking for quick easy methods of fletchings also you have introducedthe swiss arrow to me PS: it`s funny that i make broadheads and put them on my arrows the same way but instead of archers glue I use superglue

  • i love that bow i would trade my compound 65# draw for it. thanks for the arrow tips. i know this vids been around for awhile and may have seen it in the past but hey thits that good.

  • it sounds like a firefight in the background

  • dave on you multi tool if you use your knife/saw flod your tool up so the knife still still sticks out and has support

  • When I was Kid I would make Arrows out Dowels from the hardware store. they do work pretty good aslong as you keep the distance short. I would use duck or even blue jay feathers for fletching and glued them with anything from Elmers and Super glue to even trying tree sap. It was Fun.

Never got good enough at making a bow. Plus a good willow would last me some times four days. Like I said it was fun. You can be pretty accurate too.

  • Wow, that was scary for a moment. It sounded like you were stuck in a gunfight with a bow and a knife. Glad it was "friendly fire" from your boy.

Looks like a really nice bow. I paid $120 for mine and the guy gave me a discount or it would have been $150! Clever job on the arrow. A guy could make arrows out of wilderness stock with your info. I would probably be happy with two fletch. This is good info, never know when you might unexpectedly end up in the wilderness. Thanks.

  • sounds like someones hunting in the background

  • Top Job Dave well done mate thanks

  • should make a flint broadhead :)

  • have you ever killed a deer with a home made harrow

  • Very good vid...Thanks..

  • are you left handed

  • you rock ! :D 5

  • Thanks for the great instructional Dave, I've made myself up a dozen on these guys. To get my feathers uniform I used the first excess that I cut off as a template to cut the following 'feathers'.

  • After watching The Book of Eli I realized the ultimate survival weapon was the bow. Firearms are fine but eventually you may run out of ammo then gun powder and primers. Especially if there is no one making them anymore. A compound bow would not be the best thing also unless you can make your own aluminum/carbon arrows. So a long bow and/or recurve is the way to go and make your own arrows and practice, practice, practice.

  • Wow i have to say it sounds like you have been doing this for a long time. I am thinking of going of to some remote island and living of what i can find. This video really has got me thinking about making a bow as well as a couple arrows, whats the fun in buying all the stuff?! Haha anyway thankyou for posting this as i am probably goin to make these!

    Evan

  • I was shot in the ass with a home made arrow when I was a kid. Thanks for teaching me how to get revenge on my brother.....

  • as effective as a broadhead? jess yanks know alot,

  • can you use this in the sling bow with the whisker bisquit

  • When Nocking directly into a wood arrow i believe the cut has to go across the grain.. im pretty sure if you cut with the grain it has a higher tendency to split... I like the idea of using duct tape to make the fletching..... Thats the kind of knowledge that is handy to keep imbeded in the gray matter... Overall im giving this vid five stars.... I have an Oneida Black Eagle, but i find myself hankering more and more for an older wood recurve to knockabout in the woods with...

  • with hardware store dowels, your best practice is to wrap the base of the nock with thread and coat it with superglue.

  • is an arrow with 2 fletchings as accurate as an arrow with 3? i'm making a self bow and i want to know becauses i'm going to be making self arrows. and until now all i've shot with is store bought arrows with three fletchings

  • Thanks dave, I LOVE your videos, they have helped me sooo much with many things, and could you show how to modify the sling-bow into a bow fishing sling-bow using a fishing pole reel? Thanks fo all your help

  • I found a good common man multi tool at Lowes. It's their kobalt brand. It has good pliers, knife, (blade need sharpening), saw, 2 files, and an awl, as well as screw drivers. I have used mine in the woods and its tough. $10

  • so many ideas are swirling around my little brain....thx

  • hey dave duck tape is a dollar at the 99 cent store and for the point can't you drill a lil hole in in the middle about an inch deep and screw a store bought 20 for $5 dollar field point ect. in to the arrow? just wondering, good vid though
