It's weird listening to them perform it so different to the OBC version I'm so used to. Tbh if they do everyday they may as well play around with it lol

I've seen all the principal London Elphabas live, and NDJ. I have to say that I don't think there is a "best". Idina and Alexia, I felt, brought the best interpretation to the role, while Rachel and Kerry were not really any different to any other Elphaba. Kerry was amazing, but I think that Rachel has the edge purely because she seems to sing the songs a bit slower and with more riffs. Kerry seems to rush. Having said that, she blew me away live and I'm gutted I didn't see this. Sounds amazing

I think what makes a good Elphaba, is to do with their stage presence that give the audiences the emotional feeling one should, at a particular scene. It is almost like having the audience being part of the story. So far, I think Idina and Kerry have achieve that. I'm sure there's more then these two though!
Aah this is amazing! I love the applause at the end! Gutted I couldn't make that performance, must've been a life changing theatrical experience for everyone there! Really miss Kerry in Wicked, I'd love her to come back some day!

I was in the audience that night, I knew she was leaving, so I bought some tickets for England and booked some tickets for the show. I couldn't imagine just seeing her on Youtube, and it was one of the best nights of my life ever.

What I love about Kerry is that deep powerful flawless voice that comes so naturally from her (and honestly she is one of my favourite female voices ever) but I admit her acting is not the best.
I've heard many a great recordings of Eden, but, unfortunately, when I saw her (in SF), she sounded very off (flat for the majority of the performance).
Therefore, I must credit Kerry with the better of the two. =]

@jaszon28 Kerry was amazing on Oliver. She closes the show in January as I'm aware. I haven't seen Oliver since cos it's not one of my gave shows. You gotta sit through a lot of depressing stuff until Nancy's entrance. It's not exactly an uplifting show. I have now also seen WICKED in Germany which was an interesting experience as I don't speak german.
im actually quite shocked that the crowed didnt scream their heads off when she stood up with the cloak on. They screamed at every other moment in the show. Gives me goosebumps just listening to audios from that night!
I'm looking forward to Rachel Tucker and Louise Dearman next August in London,BUT, this performance of Kerry's and Idina's final London performances are THE 2 BEST performances I've EVER HEARD from ANY Wicked production ANYWHERE in the world! Its very interesting to see the emphasis on the words change from actress to actress. Maybe I'm a bit slighted, but I always enjoyed how Idina and Kristin performed this scene.

@iilluuvvmmll I didn't say the role was confirmed. I jsut said Stephanie was given the reading in the workshops so SHE was originally meant to be Elphaba but then they got Idina instead. I don't know if it was either Idina was a bigger name since she won awards in Rent or either that Stephanie had signed up for another show that was in the works before Wicked.
I think I am one of those americans who had no idea it was her last show. Honestly it was my first time seeing the show and we went to London on our Europe trip and saw wicked. Seriously- all you people slagging Kerry off are stupid. She was amazing in Wicked- she's better than the ones in America's Wicked! Believe me, I've seen them alot of times, having lived in the US. But Kerry is amazing- nobody can beat her!

@jaszon28 Kerry was amazing on Oliver. She closes the show in January as I'm aware. I haven't seen Oliver since cos it's not one of my gave shows. You gotta sit through a lot of depressing stuff until Nancy's entrance. It's not exactly an uplifting show. I have now also seen WICKED in Germany which was an interesting experience as I don't speak german.

im actually quite shocked that the crowed didnt scream their heads off when she stood up with the cloak on. They screamed at every other moment in the show. Gives me goosebumps just listening to audios from that night!

I'm looking forward to Rachel Tucker and Louise Dearman next August in London,BUT, this performance of Kerry's and Idina's final London performances are THE 2 BEST performances I've EVER HEARD from ANY Wicked production ANYWHERE in the world! Truly seminal......watershed moment in musical theater history.....just beautiful!

Its very interesting to see the emphasis on the words change from actress to actress. Maybe I'm a bit slighted, but I always enjoyed how Idina and Kristin performed this scene.
Of course these two are amazing as well.

Bellatrix is somewhat correct, we all know that the song was originally written for Stephanie but if you do the research, the last part was an octave lower until IDINA took it up an octave, therefore making it more her own. Stephen liked it so much that he made it a part of the show. Learn to take opinions for what they are: OPINIONS!

I do really like Idina but I respect other performers who have played Elphaba and fans should realise that they're commenting on someone who may be a favourite Elphaba and would upset other fans.
Willemijn Verkaik is my all time favourite Elphaba but I don't go saying "Everyone sinks low compared to Willemijn"

And about the SJB thing, at the SF workshops she was there as a dancer. Its weird how it was written for her but she didnt play the character

@MithraMusic All we know is that Stephanie was supposed to get the role in the workshops but then Idina took over and performed DG as a full song when it opened it's premiere so everyone recognises it as Idina's song.

@iilluuvvmmll I didn't say the role was confirmed. I jsut said Stephanie was given the reading in the workshops so SHE was originally meant to be Elphaba but then they got Idina instead. I don't know if it was either Idina was a bigger name since she won awards in Rent or either that Stephanie had signed up for another show that was in the works before Wicked.

I think I am one of those americans who had no idea it was her last show. Honestly it was my first time seeing the show and we went to London on our Europe trip and saw wicked. I had no idea it was this ladies last show until the very end. I was wondering why everyone kept freaking out after every song she sang!
