i used to watch a complete version of this on another channel until it disappeared a few months ago. It had a grey picture , i'm sure it said something about streaming and something to do with germany~please excuse my internet ignorance! It's just so nice to listen to,in my opinion, one of the all time classic songs without interruption~anyone got any ideas what/where it might be?
Simplesmente PERFEITO! Dire Straits é Dire Straits! Uma banda que estará sempre na memória dos que sabem o que é "música" de verdade. Dire Straits é Imortal!
although mark wrote alot of good music i would have been interested if someone else wrote a few songs that took the band in a different direction just for an album
After David Knopfler left the band the Dire Straits manager "Ed Bicknell" once said that Dire Straits was a vehicle for Mark Knopfler songs with not much space left for others.
Each and every one of them are musical geniuses in their own right but the words comes out of Mark's mind....he is as great a writer as a musician. He never ceases to amaze me.
I've seen this song once when Mark played in Erfurt and it was so intense... I'll never forget this. And to refresh it, I'm going to see him again next month in Erfurt. I'm so happy.
Talking about this version, the changes they made are for the worse. The performance is a bit loose, a bit tired. I recommend the Alchemy version, it's even tighter than the studio one.
I prefer this version with paul franklin on the steel was the best version of this though if i had to pick one. Alchemy was great too, but i think this is my fav
I first heard this song while still a kid. I immediately thought it was the greatest number in rock history. I still think so. Being hungarian I didn't understand a word of it, but that made it even more mysterious. I felt as though it was about the god of music just creating the laws of music out of the big black nothing. I still prefer listening to it this way, even though it's an adequate expression of man's struggles with nature and modern society.
My favourite song ever, this is pure poetry it appears before you if you clos your eyes, it's beautiful... helps me up when i'm down as well, you just let yourself go in the song, and at the end, i always have a smile on the end, no matter how deap down i am... :) wished there were more musicians like MK and Dire Straits!
I heard so much about this song that I wanted to hear it. That is the only reason I listened to it (after hearing it, I had to seek psychological help and medical help to stop my chronic vomiting). My therapist listened to the song and now he is in therapy too!
I dont think hes being lazy as such, it just seems they were trying to give more of a blues aspect to the song this time. Though i do prefer the alchemy version myself.
Loved it! My all-time favourite band and guitarist.
The song reminds me of my Grandfather. No song more than track 5, last track, of Love Over Gold: "It Never Rains". My favourite song of all time! I love Knopfler for it!
Like Otto Dorsk writes - it's heavily influenced by "Growth of the Soil" by Knut Hamsun (who won a Nobel Prize in 1920). Amazing how everybody (including me) assumed it took place in America instead of in northern Norway.
Wow . . . I wasn't expecting the soprano-sax solo, but it was nice! (I wondered why MK started it with the National, and that was answered quickly). I just realized the middle solo reminds me a lot of Tim Renwick (Al Stewart's band) --- have to see if there's any Al/Tim out here, now *chuckle!*. An all-time favourite of mine --- thanks for posting it! I just wish there was room for the whole 14:20 :-)~ . . .
awsome ~ i love this song ~ also romeo and juliet and brothers in arms ~ gonna listen to why worry next :) ~ we had dire straits playing in the car when the family used to go and visit grandma 80 miles away , when i was small ~
My 6th form high school teacher had us study this song in the poetry section we did that year 1987 or 88 cant remember, it was so cool, he was so cool yeeeeah big ups to Phill Coogan best English teacher Lynfield College was ever lucky enough to have. What an epic song that I will never forget.
Nice Video. Too bad audio's not so good. One of my favourite Dire Straits songs. One of the things I like about them is that they are really good and yet they are not arrogant because of it.
14 minutes 20 seconds on the 'Love Over Gold' album. I don't know another band apart from maybe Pink Floyd who could get away with such a guitarfest on the 1 song. Truly awesome.
I listen do Dire Straits Since i'm 5 or 6 years old, and loved it since the first time. After listening to this song over and over, i can say that this song fits in the definition of "progressive rock", which i like a lot. May the gods bless you Mark, we love you, and thanks for writing the soundtrack of my life.
Incrível!!!!
Faroeste caboclo do Mark Knopfler(em alusão ao de Renato Russo),das melhores bandas q tenho conhecimento na musica mundial!!!

I was in Karlsruhe 1992 when they played. It was great. Telegraph Road is my all-time-fav - and this version rules.

This band was never tighter than with Jeff Porcaro and Chris Whittem providing drums in the studio and live. Here's hoping for REUNION

Jeff was definitely a great drummer....sadly..he is missed. RIP Jeff...may your legacy live on.

Great version of the song but it is just different than Alchemy. They're all 10 years older, in their 40s, so the pacing is different.

Esta canción es incomparable, la música, la letra, nunca me canso de escucharla.
