Alan Mulally didn't have any experience in the auto business when he joined Ford, and Ford is looking more and more like the only one of the big three that is going to be left after this circus is over. All GM needs in its CEO is common sense and leadership; two things Whitacre has.

Whitacre is the guy who turned AT&T into the giant it is after the anti-trust breakup in the early 1980s. I thought everyone knew Whitacre was a good CEO.
