Bowie's best musical period as far as I'm concerned, and I like his later stuff too. The band Def Leppard was good due to the fact that they were part of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars!
@abaneyone Lol, I saw Def Leppard when they opened up for Ozzy with his Blizzard of Ozz tour with Randy Rhoads. They were pretty much unheard of then with their High N Dry album. If you like Def leppard get their high N Dry Album, It's good stuff from their early days.
I was losing hope in this youth and new generations , they just dont care about good music or this art ,but 1 month ago in halloween week i saw a 12 year old boy dress as ziggy stardust with this red bolt on hes face and this incredible orange boots now im still believe in the new generations , probably that boy will make a change in the world with music :)
@chapelierfoudre This is the version I was accustomed to as a kid...I only heard the studio version later...which pales a bit in comparison don't you think? I mean the end...'Ziggy played guitar'...sends shivers...and I used to think it was from the Ziggy movie but it isn't...so where is it from?
idk i think his 95-present stuff is way better then his 80's stuff, aside from scary monsters i think most of his 80's is pretty bad for his standards.
Come on. These were clips played to the tune of Ziggy Stardust. That's why the vid don't match the music. The music was used to accompany the clip. Duhh!
IIRC the person who originally uploaded this clip said that these Dunstable vids were mixed with an audio from the same period, if not the same gig, hence why they don't sync exactly
Look how brilliant Ziggy is. The atmosphere is electric there. You can just tell. What a talented man. I must say though, I'm becoming pretty tired of people leaving silly comments just saying "I'm only 15" or "I'm only 13"... so what? I don't know what you guys were expecting. @SuvineLumememm yeah, but look at David Bowie now... He is exactly that shadow now that you are complainig about! He used to be a pioneer of pop music and Ziggy Stardust was his masterpiece. David Bowie. An absolute Original. My earliest memories of Bowie were as a 10 year old when you didn't have to take Drugs to listen to the music. Went to a party with my older sister, they were playing T-Rex, The Sweet and Sorrow. Slade also blew my mind. When I see bands like the Scissor Sisters ETC These days I think Poor imposters. My 7 year old son loves BOWIE
David has also made more music, and different types of music, than anybody from this era. They don't even know music, or much of it anyway, cuz they can only do one type, rap or hip hip, and that isn't hardly music anyway. David could outsing every musician from this time all at once if he tried.
@MandyKazooBowie please, Eric Clapton, Paul McCartney and many more are still alive just a bit older and besides cRap and Hip hop is only gonna last for another decade, maybe sooner if we protest now. These Rock and Roll stars are legends and we're going to remember them for a long time after everyone stops giving a damn about rap. Disco already died guys it's gonna pull through for us in the end
Let's get the facts straight here boss. First, Bowie has roughly 37 albums of material (studio/live/soundtracks) whereas Frank Zappa has around 87+ (studio/live/soundtracks). On top if this, each Zappa album, for the most part, is a different style of music. Secondly, music is whatever people want it to be. Thirdly, can Bowie really outsing Rusty Day, Plant, Morrison, Winwood, Marriot, Cocker, Edgar Winter, Young, Robert Palmer, Roger Daltrey etc etc etc??
@dothedewupurs Some good names in there but just look over the internet and see how many young bands, singers and generally young music lovers mention David Bowie as a main inspiration. It's worldwide too. Every week in a music mag you'll see mention of musicians going back to the sixties right upto today who mention they would really like to work with David on some music. His legacy is far reaching in many genres.
No doubt Bowie is beast, that's not what I was arguing. I was arguing the fact that Bowie has not released the most albums than anybody from his era nor could he outsing "every musician from this time".
Agreed. Thats a effing amzing version of Ziggy. 90% or less of so called artists will not be remembered even in 10 yrs time. Bowie will live on for 1,000s of years because of what he has achieved and I'm not just talking about this music.
In my opinion this is Bowies best song AND best performance. Listen to the guitar in yhe beginning; that is fuzzy. Even though those crapy hiphop guys are more popular than he is now, yhey wont be rembered a day after they stop making music, Bowie will.
I am 13 years old and I understand this, why doesn't every single one of the thirty year old, douchbags in theyr baggy pants understand it?
I have a feeling things are going to change.. now that we are on the verge of a recession.. i would not be surprised at all if something great comes out of it as far as music and art.. thats the way it usually seems to go... war/recession/new artists that are worth a damn not like whats popular right now..
yes he has a dilated pupil in one eye due to an accident . Guess thats why millions of woman fancy him and hes married to a supermodel. There really are alot of cretinous pll on YT. I have never seen this B$ but boy do Bowie and the band rocck. awessome
Hey man those bands UNKLE. MASSIVE ATTACK. DEVIN TOWNSEND. and TOOL do not even come close to being as talented or changing rock and roll or the world for that matter like the bands in the 60's and 70's did. Bowie sold 100's of millions of albums. Put all the bands sales together that you mentioned and they do not come close in sales. They won't even be remembered in 15 years.
OMH I LOOOVE THAT DUDE!! I have all of his albums ad everyone of them is just as great as the other one! But my favourite is absolutely Ziggy stardust and the spiders from mars!
Of all his incarnations, I like this one the best. Bowie is a talented guy but he switched gears faster than a lot of his fan base could keep up with. Great post!
It was very popular to be buy in the 70's glam rock period, i know that and i'm only 16, but 70's was best for music and theys only one musician like your bowies and reeds and wellers about now, so good music is dying
you guys are so right good music is basically dead i haven't grown up with this music like lots of you guys have but i think that this rock is one of the best things that has happened to me and hell im only 14
I am also 14 and would give just about anything to be alive when the good music was being played. Bowie is one of the greatest things to ever happen to music
i know right? every good band happened in the 70's. im an amutaur guitr player and would give anything 2 go back 2 see black sabath live or led zep or bowie or jimmi!
Why does it ALWAYS come down to sexual orientation? What does it matter if he is gay, bi or straight? Does his sexual orientation make his voice or talent suddenly different? I go to T.Rex, Bowie and Queen videos often and all I keep hearing is how Marc, David and Freddie were fags! WHO CARES? They WERE/ARE still awesome
what do you think? XD He was talking to you. This song is awsome. Im trying to learn it on guitar. My dad loves Bowie so if I play the song for him he will be amazed :D
hes not gay anyways. hes married to a woman. he stated he was "try-sexual" in the 70's and 80's which is not surprising to anyone (i hope) since he has always been a very experimental artist
Las guitarras son impresionantes. Y caracterizan gran parte de la música del Bowie de esa época. Me preguntaba cuánto de diferentes sería con otros músicos. En todo caso, el conjunto es fantástico ¿El mejor Bowie?
"thats because the audio is from the Santa Monica gig and the video is from the silent vidio from the Dunstable gig in England. The Santa Monica gig is rumoured to be video taped but has yet to surface!"
David Bowie is NEVER too old! he is my all-time fav singer, hes in my fav movie (the labrynth) and heard that this is a movie (ziggy stardust and the spiders from mars.
i always thaught it was a movie, but i was'nt sure... now i know he's aparently been in 28!
greatest Bowie song ever in my opinion... Bowie is amazing and so inspiring!! he's brilliant!

To all the folks who bemoan the music of today, you needn't piss on others to enjoy the song. Sorry to throw this at you but:
"I watch the ripples change their size
But never leave the stream
Of warm impermanence and
So the days float through my eyes
But still the days seem the same
And these children that you spit on
As they try to change their worlds
Are immune to your consultations
They're quite aware of what they're going through" Excerpt from "Changes" by David Bowie

It was very popular to be buy in the 70's glam rock period, i know that and i'm only 16, but 70's was best for music and theys only one musician like your bowies and reeds and wellers about now, so good music is dying

welshdudess 4 years ago 3
I am also 14 and would give just about anything to be alive when the good music was being played. Bowie is one of the greatest things to ever happen to music
attolia2491 3 years ago 7

Why does it ALWAYS come down to sexual orientation? What does it matter if he is gay, bi or straight? Does his sexual orientation make his voice or talent suddenly different? I go to T.Rex, Bowie and Queen videos often and all I keep hearing is how Marc, David and Freddie were fags! WHO CARES? They WERE/ARE still awesome
otterhook 4 years ago
if anything bowie himself was an influence to punk however his music was just another reason for its sucsess but this is a genius song lol

exactly,
hes more of a genius then all of the homophobes on youtube
comfortablynumb12345 4 years ago
hes not gay anyways. hes married to a woman. he stated he was "try-sexual" in the 70's and 80's which is not surprising to anyone (i hope) since he has always been a very experimental artist
DamienThornGirl666 4 years ago
is there anything wrong with ? he still makes awesome music

I personally loved BAUHAUS' cover of this....They did the best cover of it. Definetly.
vegastr0n 4 years ago
I agree with you, and also Bowie agrees! He said that Bauhaus played the song in the way he should. Moreover, Bowie was the godfather of the Bauhaus.
Great song!!!!!!! Thanks for posting ;)

Las guitarras son impresionantes. Y caracterizan gran parte de la música del Bowie de esa época. Me preguntaba cuánto de diferentes sería con otros músicos. En todo caso, el conjunto es fantástico ¿El mejor Bowie?
egolandia69 4 years ago 2
Awesome song. I thought I was gonna be disappointed with the Bauhaus remake, but it was actually okay. I usually hate most remakes...
