I really enjoyed watching this! This shows the pyro, while a bit out of place at range in comp is surely not a dead lead on the team, as long as you are creative. Considering the buffs pyro has had since this vid, things'll be so much easier and thusly more effective.

@Yobumumba meh, frie them up with flamethrower. Strafe around to get less damage from flame particles. Use flare gun if he tries to flee (-30 hp is still damage). Also your teammates wont just stay still

Although the degreaser is banned in competitive play, the mini-crit reflect buff and flare gun crit buffs (first the mini-crit one, then full crit) must make this guy amazing now.

Even when the Pyro is the "weakest" class, a pro Pyro can be super annoying to kill, they can reflect Rockets, Granades, Arrows and even Jarates

Still he really need better weapons, the Backburner is awesome but 50 ammo for airblasting is bullshit, the Degreaser have nothing special and the flamethrower is, well the Flamethrower, can Valve give the Pyro at least The Reserve Shooter?, I mean c'mon he have the Flare Gun and the Detonator which are almost the same weapon, give it a better Shotgun

@oliball123 At the time of this video, it would deal minicrits on burning targets at mid-close range, and full crits on burning targets at long range. With the hatless update, it was changed to full crits at any range. It gave the pyro a big advantage with the degreaser (set on fire, fast switch to flare gun, and then if they're still alive, pull out axtinguisher and finish them off).

@KyudoRyu Flaregun is great against them as well if you have some sort of insane prediction. I do it all the time. Degreaser puff then crit them scouts with flare and they just die two seconds later.

BTW in case anybody is curious, this is when the airblast took 25 ammo (compared to 20 now) and it didn't shoot quite as fast.

The flaregun also didn't crit (nor mini-crit) on burning targets either.

And obviously the degreaser wasn't out.

@thatsniperisaspy Well the reason is that the game revolves around class play and the classes need to be balanced according to specific postion (Its why I like the concept of Highlander). Problem is that instead of finding new ways to balance the classes they instead make all this new shit for demoman that never get proper nerfs (Meet the Medic update proves my point). Like Blizzard before them, the are making the same mistakes and are therefore killing their own game.

i've been trying to learn the pyro rocket jump, and good lord it's hard. and that's just me trying to practice it in tr_walkway. the fact that you're doing it and making it look so effortless against real enemies is just nuts. show me how to pyro rocket jump, please ;D it's one of the last good pyro tricks i need to learn.

@iamblankenstein Practising Pyro jumping on tr_walkway is more difficult than in a real situation, because the bots in tr_walkway fire straight ahead while real enemies fire at your feet. This makes it easier to jump over the rocket and airblast.

it's actually harder to pull off in a real game as the soldiers won't perfectly aim at your feet and some rockets will be simply unjumpable

I actually find it sad that you're using the Axtinguisher in, like, 90% of these clips.

Literally. Sad as in unhappy. Because Soldiers can just blast away with their rockets. Demos can just spam grenades. Heavy never really has to use his shotgun. But the poor Pyro, who has had his fire nerfed to hell and back, has to rely on an unlock. Pathetic.
