Reminds me of the book "Rising Up and Rising Down: Some Thoughts on Violence, Freedom and Urgent Means" by William T. Vollmann. The title comes from the fact that many revolutions really change nothing, it just changed the ruling elite and changed the way leaders are selected (ie merit vs political loyalty or class origins). A perfect example is the Russian Revolution, those formerly on top switched places with those on bottom - all with little benefit.
Civil war lasted for 7 years, someplace less, someplace longer in different parts of Russia, nothing happend over night.Nobody really sieged power until Stalin in the middle of 1920-ies.During bloody sunday,socialist terrorist cell called "Eser" sponcored by foreign countries was firing at cossacks from the crowd of demonstrators and nearby roof-tops.Cossacks did not return fire until they lost 18 men.Pretty similar to what happend in Lybia..
