  • Hey 4sailorjupitor4,

Its always good when a movie has a positive influence on someone(even if they don't know much about the art), espeacially towards learning the arts. Not sure where you live, so for now you can check out the info that I have on Bagua Zhang, if I can help in the future let me know. Peace, FredB.

  • i luv bagua

  • ...thought he was doing a running start to hit that gong. oh well. smooooth.

  • this old guy is real good, smooth!

  • watch the steps..omfg

  • Airbending? Sounds interesting and I am going to read about it. Cool upload.

  • a great inspirational kata....

  • It's very beautiful and graceful. But I would love to see it in actual combat.

  • @AtarashiNOhi many of the original bagua practitioners took part in the boxer rebellion and fought with legendary skill theyve also served as imoerial bodyguards

  • @TheVladimir78 imperial

  • Wow this guy just flows through every movement. And he surprises me when he goes through his slower graceful movements and then out of nowhere pulls out a lightning fast strike.

  • 0:02 shake your sillies out :)

  • be water my friend

  • Name of the music, please! Anyone?

  • this is the true form of nejis fighting style

  • Awesome, simplemente poderoso.

  • LIke this if you're an Avatar fan.

  • awesome!

  • you don't need any training for deadly air-bending techniques, merely half a can of refried beans.

  • i learn nan quan but can i move to ba gua ?

  • i could just picture him throwing people and moving in circles dodging enemy attack

  • What is that "shake" in the beginning. I've never seen this in an internal art. This guy looks like he has the goods - impressive. Taijiquan is my thing, but good Baqua is cool.

  • @jsphotos do you mean tae chi quan? fail.

  • @MetalDestroysAll

check out "Chen Xiaowang Applications DVD excerpt, Laojia/19ct w/ fajin"

    And, it's Taijiquan, genius.

  • @MetalDestroysAll look it up GENIOUS. its thats the translated ENGRISH way to say it.

  • I was waiting for him to like explode that gray thing with is mind.

  • negi on naruto

  • 333 likes and 33 dislikes. Ahhh this has made my day.

  • is he dancing or fighting? JK, it reminds me to Nejis fighting style from Naruto

  • @HachibinoGykuki

    YOU LOL

    dancing??

    what the hell your words..

  • @HachibinoGykuki thats because the gentle fist is modeled after bagua.

  • beautiful form, how lovely...just as its mean to be! x

  • This is excellent bagua of the cheng school

  • bagua is beautiful, but i'm glad i don't do it because i think i would get rather dizzy

  • @rosebudIII do it, do it do do do it...like LCD sound system say! do it. id dont make ya dizzy pet, it makes you amazin!!!,,,,, i got the most humble of teachers who have trained with the greats who dont even have a website....how lucky am I in the UK?...Im Little Miss Giddy Kali, Panantuan, Jung Fu, Pa gua girls going!!!!....IM BLESSED!!!!!! x

  • this dance looks wierd

  • In Ip Man 2, one of the styles used during the tabletop fight is bagua zhang.

Jet Li's character in The One uses bagua zhang, while the antagonist version of the character uses xingyi quan.

Airbending in Avatar: The Last Airbender is modeled on bagua zhang.

Ling Xiaoyu from the Tekken video game series uses bagua zhang.

Ashrah from Mortal Kombat: Deception and Kitana from Mortal Kombat: Deadly Alliance use bagua zhang.

  • baguazhang or Eight Trigrams is actually the art Neji Hyuga was using in the naruto series... spinning movements are used to confuse and evade and opponent this is a deadly martial art in the hands of an Eight Trigram master...

  • It doesn't work, if you don't know what's happening (mere movements),

It will be most effective and deadly, if you understand the essence of this martial art.

  • Wait a min... where is the walker and the bengay? Like I keep telling people. Take care of your boady and your body will take care of you. I know 20 year olds that can't move a faction of this gracefulness. I need to learn how to do that little dance number he did just before his routine, you know, that quick shake... I will practice.

  • @Melanatedone thats not a dance, shaking is to release self from someones grasp.

  • @ukguy - I know its not a dance, but you gotta admit, you'd be the man if you did that on the dance floor.

  • Amazing! what else is there to say?

  • Wow... I have to admit that Avatar: The Last Airbender is what got me interested in Ba Gua, but it is Ba Gua that makes airbending so cool, not the other way around. I wish I could learn Ba Gua. It is an amazing and beautiful thing. I also think it would be fun and beneficial to learn. A lot of discipline and strength is required for any martial art, and that can be reapplied to every part of life.

  • @4SailorJupitor4 Thats funny Avatar is the same reason I looked into Ba Gua it would be a great thing to learn

  • @4SailorJupitor4 I knew something was familiar with the movements that Ang was doing!

  • @4SailorJupitor4 all today ive been looking up places to learn bagua .. i can find anything .. it is a bautiful harmony style ... Oh and also Neji from Naruto uses BaGuaZhang

  • @TehRoXXX

    im really looking forward

    to learn xingyiquan

    and ythen baguazhang

    and after that

    i wanting to learn taijiquan

the music and fight styles really inspire me tough

  • @4SailorJupitor4 hi, first thing u gotta do is this before you can learn taijiquan (taiji) u gotta learn xingyiquan (xingyi) thats the first of the classes u gotta learn to strike at one point before learning at all points. its xingyiquan .1 then baguazhang .2 taijiquan .3 see it at school each lvl is more diffulcult
  • @4SailorJupitor4 - Even the mark of airbenders on the wall. Well a lookalike anyway... :)

  • @4SailorJupitor4 Well, until the day you find a teacher, as a BaGua practitioner myself, I'll give you a piece of advice. DO train your legs. A lot. The training will be Hell if you don't.

  • wow

  • Love the music

  • airbending

  • @emixam291

    hardly...

  • its like chinese dancing and hiphop while worshiping a gong

  • sifu where your from

  • air bending!!!!

  • That last was meant to read "Tai Chi" on Methamphetamine. Didn't sleep too well last night, I guess my discombobulation is the inevitable result thereof.

  • It's like aikido on methamphetamine! That must take such perfect coordination and muscle control, not to mention the speed and economy of movement: simply amazing, and it can't be as easy as he makes it seem.

  • i think its good looking and all, but 1 thing i cant wrap my head around is; how do you use that for real? like against actual people in actual situations?

  • @juniorguard4life look up 'ba gua' on youtube and look at any of the other vids... a lot of them demonstrate techniques used in this vid or similar ones on other people...

  • @juniorguard4life

    Enough said. /watch?v=D4u5zN69nBQ

Just because you cant figure out how it can be applied in real life situations, does not mean that it does not work. It works, son. It works so well, that Kung Fu is the most powerfull and most dangerous of all arts.

  • @Elbottoo I didn't say that it couldn't be used I'm real life, just that I couldn't see how. After u watched this CID I watched others and realized how it was

  • i am a martial practioner here in the philippines...i have trained muay thai, kick boxing, karate, taekwondo and aikido, but this art is different and interesting to learn... and i admire, reaspect the master...he is very good..a truly master of martial art...hope someday i will have the opportunity to meet him personaly and be he's student...long live master Sun Zhi Jun

  • this martial art is very hard to master and its very precise.

  • i practice Taekwondo and Judo..a bit of Hapkido. And let me say that this puts all of them to shame. This martial art makes all others that I've seen and done seem awkward and clunky in comparison. This is so unbelievably graceful and powerful. I would kill for the opportunity to learn this. It's stunning.

  • My ignorance may show but there are depths to this that would take lifetimes to gauge.

But in a few words i believe: the SHIMMY provides Energy. I believe the shimmy is the mechanism by which the waist, torso, head and limbs gather/store/transfer that energy. Further-more the shimmy may be a way of say, setting the frequency of the body for the intended flow or more abstractly the attitude of said energy.

Anyway that's my theory.thanks for posting the video, more BaGuaZhang people!

  • I love Sun's bagua it is incredibly fluid and graceful a pleasure to watch

  • He looks rushed. I was taught that Ba-Gua Zhang should be done slowly and purposefully, taking care to feel the movements with every fiber of your being. But I'm also sure there are different styles of teaching, and the uniform looks like this man is a master of the art.

  • I don't practice ba gua zhang (only the yang form of tai ji quan) but I find this technique very gracious and beautiful movements are fluid and vrey circulars (like the ba gua)

I regret that( bgz) it is already unknown in France.

  • his form is perfect.....

  • This is great- he flows like water

  • I love how fluid his motions are.

  • good god is this argument still going on?

  • lol people that lose their temper are also weak minded. Lol wanting to kick someone's ass over some comment on the internet sounds so immature.

  • Are there training videos available with this instructor?

  • do any of u christians think that it is wrong to try to learn this stuff because of the chi and healing and stuff that it teaches?

  • Only if they're religious fanatics... who are generally stupid... too stupid for NeiGong....

  • ha isaac newton was a christian but whatever andy

  • to learn of this stuff does not deny that it could have been created by god, and you are not worshiping it, but using it to enrich your life, thus making you a better vessel to spread the word of god.

Thats one way to think of it :D

  • I am not a Christian, but I follow something which suggests that it is undesirable to follow it and also follow another spiritual way.

I study Taijiquan, and I approach it as self-defense and health exercise, ignoring the spiritual content.

You can do the same with the Bagua.

    W.

  • Who gives a flying fuck what the weak minded think...As a martial artist you should recognize the difference between spirituality and the martial way..if your religion is getting in the way of that then perhaps you should either stop being a poser of the martial way or stop following false prophets...Your comment makes me want to kick your ass

  • @Dissonant1975 easy big guy

  • @Dissonant1975 please dont hurt me

  • nope not really it actually helps keep you calm to prevent chances of getting angry and blessing someone out lol......but it isnt worshiping any other objects or anythink like witch craft so my bias is its ok

  • Your god will save you...

  • @phonebush i don't think so. i think most of us would think of it as exercise.

  • A true DRAGON. Amazing

  • this looks so complicated and awesome i doubt i could ever learn to do it

  • You doubt not!

If you awake your mind radar to those feelings, you'll be able to grasp forms in no time. If you find some decent teacher and a TRUE master, he will be able to draw on a piece of paper how body energy flows around you - in front of you, behind you, the wrists, the arms and the fingers, the look -and all together. Ba Gua is really great pleasure to practice. But it's not involving the whole of the body deep as tai chi does.. So I guess it's better to start with Ba Gua.

  • As a kung fu practitioner, i could only ever dream of attaining a level of internal skill like this! lets shoot for it!

  • beautiful...

  • this martial art was the basis for the art of "Airbending" in the show avatar the last airbender! :D

  • yea i love that show. this guy would be one sick airbender

  • Beautiful

  • from watching he began using the basic mother palms thin went into some hand switching movements hes combining several forms together starting with the basic ones and moving to the more higher ranked forms of ba gua this is very graceful Love watching it

  • very very swift

I was taught some from Grandmaster David E Kash who was also a student of Grandmaster Wang

however it was the first time I saw bagua this swift

  • At his age still move so smoothly, very impressive

  • Just amazing

  • I found this one of the best examples of Ba Gua. Well done, perfect movement! Very enjoyable to watch.

  • It looks beautiful, I love watching it!

  • ba gua is for technic for wind fighterss

  • @megaboy250

What do you mean by wind fighters?

    Can u explain?

  • in the cartoon Avatar, the Air Nomads in the series (of which Aang is the last) all used this style for airbending.

  • I love it. I knew about this figthing style because of Avatar.

  • ya i know shorinjiryu kenukai karatedo and i want to do northern shaolin kung fu or this

  • I saw a video of Ba Gua Zhang once as a kid and I was mesmerised by the elegant flow of movements. Back then I didn't know what it was, but it left a lasting impression for a long time. Now that I've found it again, it has awakened my spirit and will to bind myself with this martial art. I will start my training next month. =)

  • I think bagua is the best fighting style ever :3 <3

  • old man shimmy! I love Bagua Zhang

  • Is this Bagua swimming dragon form?

  • I believe this is the 64 linking palms.

  • isnt that the Air Nomads symbol from avatar? XD

  • most likely what it was based off of.

  • No, but Airbending was based off of this form

  • The chinese say, if you have a stiff back, you're old, if you have a soft back, you're young. This master's moves are beautiful beyond words.

  • yup , he can.. seriously i saw him do it

but pacquiao on the other hand.. Whole nother story !!

  • u know kamal, if those guys were 70 years old, this guy would snap them in half.

  • With respect..this man has been training for longer than either of them have been alive. The situation where they would wind up fighting would be extremely rare because the really hardcore folks in China are usually humble and unless you see one of these guys picking on an old man I don't see it happening.

  • He's 76...

  • amazing.. people should stop trying to make whimsical comments, it only makes you look ignorant to how special this really is.

  • @stochastikos you suck out loud and I think you're the one who's ignorant

! YouTube is about the comments as well as the video. Respect that not all people know BaGuaZhang. Also that they might not bother asking questions which is the main, if not only reason it's been put on here.

  • am i the only one who saw the shoulder shimmy in the beginning?

  • No, I saw it and immediately wished the guy wasn't wearing that loose shirt. Sometimes I think they deliberately wear loose clothing so we can't see the torso body-mechanics that are the real power behind their arm movements.

  • @ChungFat4eva

i saw that too and immediately burst into laughter

  • @ChungFat4eva ..loool nope

  • you start doing that in a fight, you will surely win!

    hahahahah

  • so fluid and graceful, the stuff for sure...

  • mmm...yeah....that's the stuff.

  • looks like dancing pretty cool though

  • wow . .jesus and i thought wang hai jun was good. . . i do chen taijiquan but this . . this is mental

  • What is the name of the song?

  • Preaching on the Vulture Peak

  • thank you very much !!

  • very good! this is the real bagua!!

  • i always loved baguazhang because of how fluid and beautiful it is

  • did he do a little jig in the beginning?

  • Indeed he did, it's his way of shaking off the funk...

  • beautiful!!!!!!!!!

  • Best not to mess with any old chinamen!!

  • I've seen Master Sun practice Bagua and Hsingi, but never Tai Chi. Anyone know if he does? I'm sure he would be dazzling doing the forms. I would love to know what he thinks of Tai Chi compared to Bagua. In his time, I'm sure he "crossed arms" with Tai Chi practitioners and could comment on the relative effectiveness of each style.

  • The shimmy in the beginning is the bees knees, really...been workin on that for a half hour now and I can't seem to get it just right. His speed between 1:14 and 1:15 makes a lightning discharge look like molases dripping off an eskimos ass. Good business, truely. The heel-to-toe toe-to-heel transitioning is impeccable. Grandmaster is accurate.

  • HOLY CRAP! If this video has taught me anything it is that i need to practice more. Sun Zhi Jun is one of the greatest living BaGuaZhang masters and its good to see videos of him in action. This is a good example of everything Neijia Quan should be.

  • OMG! I have been implementing this same ability into my budo along with sword for about the last 10 years (30+ years MA training total). I've never seen anyone so closely resembling my ability to generate spirals from the center and blossom them into seemless direction changes while circle walking. Does he ever leave China for teaching? The U.S. government won't allow me to go to China without very good reason. In fact, I'm not allowed to even fly over some countries like China.

  • This is Sun Zhi Jun. The top cheng bagua master in the world. I highly doubt your ability is near his. And no, he doesn't leave China. I am sure for the right price he may, but he has a elite group of students there, and he is nearing 80. While you may have tried to compliment him, you are calling yourself a grandmaster in the same sentence.

  • uh, I am not political in nature, and do not belong to bagua...therefore I can not claim a title of grandmaster. More martial artists should take responsibiltiy for what they can do and state it directly. The false humilty many portray in an attempt to be asian only retards themselves and their potential students. It was just nice to see someone doing something I do, and I do perform at these levels without the limit of the bagua forms...dynamically in chaos.

  • i would like to see you perform

  • i agree that he is one of the best that i have seen but top bagua stylist in the world? that is a little far fetched don't you think? I have seen a couple of others that are very close to his level but better in application. There is always a mountain higher than another mountain.

  • yea that's true I suppose, but your going to run out of mountains sooner or later right?

  • lol yeah

  • I mean.. this guy really is one of the best in the world :/ Alongside He JInbao and maybe only a handful of others

  • ...Are you a wanted criminal...?

  • No. I have valuable information, so I need permission when traveling over certain countries air space. This is not uncommon with so many people involved with international crisies today.

  • Note to tadanokami....if your so good buddy. put up clip and show us. Please.

  • Bagua zhangs trains upper body flexibility. It will keep one's body supple even at advanced age.

  • Wow - look at Sun Zhi Jun move - it's absolutely breathtaking!

  • I wish people would give the whole 'avatar' thing up. Its a cartoon for gods sake! Yes, it has actual kung fu in it, but why watch cartoons when you could be doing the real thing? It's a helluva lot healthier than watching telly...

Enough ranting, that symbol on the wall: does anyone know what it is? it seems to be a reccurring thing in bagua (Representing the circular motion?) I've seen yin&yang symbols spiralling tightly like that, but this seems to be a solid colour, with no dots of opposite

  • i don´t really know, but to me it just looks like a stylized version of the taiji symbol.the two dots are also there

  • Oh yeah, the two elongated things (fullscreening helps). Nevertheless, why does bagua specifically use this symbol instead of the more common one?

  • again i´ll just have to guess:it may be corresponding with the spirals and turns in bagua, which seem more dynamic than for example in taijiquan.now i´m interested as well.maybe someone else could help?

  • I put some links to sites etc containing that symbol in a comment, but I guess it was a youtube no-no. (even when I replaced the . with 'dot')

there was also a site with kung fu lolcats, which had a brilliant bagua one

  • It's just a supposition, but it could be a stylized version of the Yin and Yang derived from Taiji.

  • Eventhough I enjoyed this cartoons I don't like the kind of notority bagua gets through this. I hope it won't become worse when they going to make this movie. To the symbol: families or martial art streams throughout china used stylized religious symbols such as the taiji as family trademarks and seals. I believe this is what it is about.

  • I have a question, and the people posting to this video seem serious and respectful. As I have grown older, I have become arthritic, and unfortunately, have had some surgery for injuries in my knee and shoulder. Despite my injuries and age (early 60s) I am in good cardiovascular condition. I have been fascinated with BaGua for a very long time. BaGua seems relatively gentle on the joints in terms of training. Can anyone please comment and give me your views on this?

  • Most of the Internal arts are relatively gentle on the body because the use of force is smoothe and not abrupt. Try to find someone near you to learn from

    Lewitt

  • Bagua is extremely vigorous with a lot of twisting and compressing that requires your body already be open and supple enough to handle it. Anything less and you`re injured. I seriously suggest building a foundation through some qi gong or tai chi before taking on something as demanding as Ba Gua. From soft to hard is the safest and most assured way to understanding. Check out Bruce Frantzis` "The Power of Internal Martial Arts" for a serious breakdown of what you`re getting into. Good luck!

  • if you watch this with funk in the background its awsome

  • BAGUA is beautiful to look at mmmm!

  • This is an excellent demonstration. If you would like to know more you can visit my website, which is located on my page. While your there please feel free to suscribe me. I would be glad to help you with anything bagua related your having trouble with.

  • this is truely an wonderful style.

  • I am inner circle deciple of Master Sun. He is extremely strict when teaching us. He emphasize that each movement shall be accurate and no like other elderly masters. Master Sun still performs all gestures and movement accurately just as he used to be. For entirely movement, he even improved a lot comparing to his 40s, he is really amazing.

I think the reason is that he never stopped training for past 10s of years. That's why he is so perfect

  • Amazing to watch his precision and flexiblity.

  • Hawkeye, you are wrong. The master who perfomed here is Mr. Sun Zhi Jun. The video had been shot in 2005 when Master Sun was 72 years old.

Therefore, please update your information. I know you are in Korea and haven't seen master Sun much, it's understood that you mess up. Please just correct the information
