When Singapore Airlines first got their A340-500s, they wanted to bring their A340-500s for a short hop. It's like a proving (i.e. testing) flight, to prepare for the super long non-stop ones to New Jersey and Los Angeles
All Other short flight is 777-200/200er....Other flight such as 5-6 hours long is a 777-300/300er other flight such as those with stopover is mostly 777-300er and 747-400....and a340-500 is nw full biz class flight to new york...nonstop and a380 is nw serving 4 places....sydney,london,toyko and beijing.
Generally, I find that the B777s are less bumpy on the ground and in the air. Especially when I am seated over the wings, the Boeings seem give a smoother ride.
why they wanna use such a big plane for such a short destiny? I use small plane for long destiny? isnt tht strange?

Finally, a "fast" takeoff on an A340. I didn't think they had it in them.

HI, in which area(s) are you comparing between the two aircraft types? I may not be able to comment on all issues.
