  • Hey those demon column thingies- Nevermind!

  • awesome show, their sound was really raw then, but still good. Treys soloing is really chaotic in this one, the song also sounds different to what it is nowadays, for example the weird timing on the end of the first riff, and the major, happy sounding riffs sort of ruins the song, but it is recovered by treys soloing and the cool vocal work. Good upload, do you have anymore of this concert ?

  • mike browning

  • yes it was mike wning on vocals/drums in 85/86....seen em at a couple bars in tampa in 85

  • Mike Browning is playing drums and singing here.

  • I'm pretty sure the drummer from '86 - '88? was Wayne Hartsell. Not my style, but he's a friend & great drummer (imo).

  • Man you don't know much about Morbid Angel Lord Vlad! Dallas Ward was the old bass player not drummer!

  • the drummer was dallas-ward( not of nile) right? and i believe he was the vocals. someone correct me or confirm please.

  • HOLLY FUCKING SHIT!

does anyone has the full show?

  • NICE VERY NICE THANKS FORM THE UPLOAD MAN

  • I was 7 in 1986, If i knew better this would have been my favorite song. HOLY SHIT MORBID FUCKIN ANGEL!

  • how the fuck does justin bieber be more recognized then these guys????

  • @islespatrick because being mainstream isn't metal...

  • @Deaththrash94 Some mainstream bands are good, dude. Disturbed is pretty metal, and the only thing mainstream about them is the fact that they're signed to a major label and have 6 million fans.

  • @rectifytheblack420 Fuck you poser disturbed is shit.

  • @Sjamsucks Poser? Wow, man. Wow. You may think Disturbed is shit, but you can't deny the fact that they can write some good songs. I'm not a Disturbed fanboy, I'm just saying. If anything, you're the poser, you elitist fuck. You make me sick.

  • @rectifytheblack420 Distured is corporate media shit. Those guys are in it for the money. I'd rather listen to something heavy and raw then some shitty radio rock crap that all those faggot kids who post \m/ in every video listen too.

  • @Sjamsucks What the fuck makes you think they're in it for the money? You really don't know shit about the band, which doesn't surprise me, but don't sit there saying that some "shitty radio rock crap" band is in it for the money when you really don't know what you're talking about, other than the fact that a lot of Disturbed fans are young kids through late teens, they have a wide fanbase, and they have radio airplay. What does it matter anyway, we all know Morbid Angel are WAY superior.

  • @rectifytheblack420

Nah, you're definitely the most poseurish out of the two of you.

Disturbed were "Nu Metal", as far as I can remember from the early 2000s. Don't know much about what they're doing nowadays, but the only reason they aren't sell-outs is because they never had anything to sell-out.

  • @ExNihilMetal You should listen to some of their newer material. Their first album was nu-metal, yes, but their newer albums are pretty metal. Listen to the song "Decadence". And how am I a poser for liking a certain metal band? People claim that certain shit isn't metal, but when you look at it, Disturbed is metal, just because I'd rather listen to Disturbed over black metal doesn't make me any more of a poser than a black metal fan not wanting to listen to Disturbed.

  • @rectifytheblack420

Sorry, I should have been clearer as to my definition of "Metal". As far as I'm concerned, Metal requires a certain spirit, as well as the traditional instrumentation and general trappings of the genre (distorted guitars, perfect fifths, musical and structural complexity, etc). One of my problem with Disturbed, and a lot of modern "Metal" bands, is that their structures are rock structures - songs go verse, chorus, verse, chorus, bridge/solo, chorus, end. That's pop Music.

  • @ExNihilMetal Well one thing, metal is a form of rock. I know where you're coming from, man. Half the time I can't stand Disturbed, I'm just saying they can write good songs. And hell, man, that song structure was used by MANY bands, heavy metal, thrash metal, death metal, you name it. You don't like Disturbed, I like some of their later shit, it doesn't make me a poser just because I like a certain band, regardless of the fact that that band may have commercial success.

  • @rectifytheblack420

"Thrash Metal" (I assume you mean DRI, Cryptic Slaughter kind of stuff?) uses Hardcore Punk structure, with Metal riffs, predominantly. You might be referring to Speed Metal, which would often have a developed intro and a very developed bridge (early Metallica is a good example). When I say "Metal", I typically mean Extreme Metal, to boot, as it's the furthest removed from rock/pop.

I also disagree that Metal is a form of Rock - are humans a form of single-celled organism?

  • @ExNihilMetal Okay, so you're telling me that Judas Priest and Black Sabbath just came up out of nowhere? You're telling me that rock wasn't the first step to metal music? Honestly what's with all of the technical bullshit, cut it down to the chase, dude. The early heavy metal bands drew inspiration from the older rock bands, as well as other forms of music, getting the sound they have now. Now I don't know about you, but I prefer the term THRASH over SPEED metal, but they're both pretty much--

  • @rectifytheblack420

Once, all life on this planet was single-celled. Now, a portion of life on this planet is multi-cellular. Humans are very complex creatures, which have evolved over a period of time to become so much more than their original ancestors (protozoa). Such is the same with Metal and Rock - a handful of very intelligent musicians set out to build upon the foundations which they had in Blues and Rock music, and they started Metal. The genre has since detached itself from Rock.

  • @ExNihilMetal Alright, Mr. Kardashian, I don't care about single-celled organisms or whether or not you know that metal evolved from rock and rock from blues. All I'm saying is, just because a band has commercial success and writes songs with rock song structures doesn't mean they aren't metal. Now, you don't like them, I'm not a fan of them, I just think they can write good music. So let's say they are rock. I like the band. You're saying that someone like me is a poser.

  • @rectifytheblack420

I'm saying you're more of a poseur than that other guy was, if either of you was a poseur in the first place. Hell, I listen to Three Inches of Blood. It's not "proper Metal", but it's good for a laugh.

Also, I'm stating quite categorically that Metal is not "a form of rock music". Metal has entirely surpassed Rock.

  • @ExNihilMetal Extreme metal has, yes, but not all forms of metal. And yes, I see what you're saying, but you say it like the word poser is a broad term. I'm not a poser, I do not claim to love nothing but death metal or thrash or whatever. I love metal in general. The problem with the metal scene nowadays isn't the shitty bands, it's the metalheads that hate on other metalheads for liking certain bands. Hell at least I don't like BFMV. Whatever happened to the brotherhood within the metalfamily?

  • @rectifytheblack420

It's as prominent and selective as it's ever been. Metal's always been elitist - "wimps and poseurs leave the hall" etc. Nowadays, there are heaps of fair weather fans popping into the genre to listen to "Metalcore" and pretend that they're Metalheads, when, in reality, they're some weird variant of emo. In five years' time most of them have grown out of it, whereas the Hessians I know are in it for life.

  • @ExNihilMetal Yeah of course there's always been the posers, but if some death metal fan said he liked GNR back in the day, would that make him a poser? Every little thing makes a metalhead a poser nowadays. I mean, shit, metalcore fucking sucks. Deathcore is great (the good deathcore), but that doesn't mean a person ain't a metalhead.

  • @rectifytheblack420

I disagree with you on the deathcore front, but you raise the main point of my argument - the GOOD stuff is great, the not-good stuff is mediocre to terrible, and that applies to all Metal, and all forms of Metal. Rather than listen to entirely average music, I prefer to listen to great music. To me, "Metal" is the best of music which uses the traditional "metal" instrumentation/distortion/sonic heaviness. Everything else is more or less rock (like Disturbed).

  • @ExNihilMetal I like the way you think.

  • @islespatrick Because..... ah fuck it I don't know.

  • mike browning rules!!

  • New interview with Tim Yeung talking about Morbid Angel: sickdrummermagazine [dot] com

  • the guy on the drums is pete??

  • Mike Browning

  • Now, he is Browning from Nocturnus.

  • trey azagthoth is probably my favorite guitarist ever. he has his own unique style and shreds like a motherfucker!

  • @hstrung42687 Saw him on Headbanger's Ball a few years ago. Talking about White High Tops and Jordache Jeans being metal. Thought that was pretty funny. Though he was serious, cause he was wearing them at the time. Mind you this was sometime between 2003 and 2005.

  • @baronofbefoulment I still wear white high tops and tight pants...

  • Notice how some of the riffs arent the same than on the studio version.

  • it has a nocturnus sound in there.sounded like undead journey

  • Fuck man, 86!!!! how heavy.

  • stormriderWI i agree with you

  • Cool song but not so good quality video

  • ahaha its soo different

    its slower hah

  • This shit is badass, my mind is blown

  • this is so hard for '86

  • the year of my birth! mad respect for MA's work.

  • could this be present day Jannus Landing? I just recognize the big circus tent

  • this so fuking wierd

  • Goddammit!!!! This is motherfucking cooooool!!!!

  • Are you fucking serious! This video is Morbid Angel doing a song they wrote! The Berserker can't even write songs as good as Morbid Angel or they wouldn't be doing covers of them! this song wouldn't even exist and for that matter The Berserker probably wouldn't even exist if it weren't for Morbid Angel!

  • That riff starting at 1:59 always sounds fucking insane.

  • Trey's solo is the greatest I've ever seen. And in 1986? Unbelievable!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Watching Trey solo there just made me realize that Trey plays like Steve Vai on some kind of demonic crack. fucking Awsome!

  • Trey is going monstrous crazy here!!!

  • Mike FUCKING Browning

  • omg 80s yeah

  • Brunelle's solo starting at 1:05 may be hte most frightening thing I have ever seen!

  • Or is that Trey... I cant tell

  • i agree. That was insane

  • I think it's Trey.

  • That's Trey, and yes, it's incredibly frightening!

    TREY!

  • I wish to hear such brutal music back in 1986!!!

  • Mike Browning who is singing and drumming is same dude on the "rehearsal" video at their practice spot

  • I am suprised I haven't seen this clip before. Cool shit

  • in that times morbid sounds like NOCTURNUS...because the vocals-drummer idiots..check THE KEY-album...kick ass many albums of actual morbid angel

  • did this Browning guy compose any stuff in Morbid Angel?

  • Wow back when they had that guy from Nocturnus on Drums and lead Vocals.

  • could you please tell me who is nocturnus???

  • progressive death metal band with keyboards and the guy who is on drums here is on drums n vox for nocturnus, check em out.

  • Great to see this vid of early MA, thanks Mike!

Good luck and have fun with the Nocturnus reunion tour in Europe, too bad Mike Davis will not be there. Also good luck with AD and your other projects! :)

    Greetings from Groningen, Netherlands

  • Just to let everyone know that is John Ortega on bass and he was also the bass player on Abominations of desolation, not Sterling!

  • @afterdeathmike that is Dallas Keith Ward on the bass...I grew up with these guys...

  • Comment removed

  • Oh,and who was on the base then,David????

  • Who the f*ck is singing?!? The drummer? Mike Browrning?

  • 19fuckin'86!!!!!!!!

  • This thing gives me the shivers. It's like he's possessed or something.

  • Master was a big influence on the genre from the beginning, but this is water under the bridge. I recently met Terry Butler from Death, Massacre and Six Feet under while on tour with him over here in Europe on the last Massacre Tour and he confirmed something for me. Death played a Deathstrike/Master song I wrote called The Truth on the first US Death Tour. Speckmann

  • fuck you death fucking rocks

  • Your a real piece of shit you know that.

  • otimo

  • the guitars solos could be the best of the worst not really sure because of the audio quality excuse my english

  • Well I rather listen to Trey Azagthoth's atonal solos than your shitty sweep fest any day.

  • i got this e mail the other day just to read this angry ofensive an bad comments from you too bad man i was just making a point here thats all see ya excusemy bad english

  • ahahahaha

i don't like trey's style, but he's a great guitarrist, more than satriani and those comercial bitches

  • Man, what does being ommercial have to do with being an awesome guitarist?

They both are great in their own right.

  • morbid angel fuckin rules!

  • I agree with Coldacre, Death Didn't invent death metal singlehandedly, thats bullshit, Other bands like Possessed, Morbid Angel and Obituary aided the creation of death metal. But Death being musically boring! No way!

  • totally agree with this guy

death didn't invent death metal, it was inspired in other bands i think

but i love death, it's my favorite band

    ----

love this song :) i think altars of madness is the best album from morbid angel, it still haves a thrash taste in it

  • even though i disagree with you on that death are boring, i have to admit, if you think they started death metal you are stupid

  • WTF. Dude... how the hell can you call Death boring? I don't believe this. On what basis are you calling Death's music to be boring?

  • Halfway with you here;

But hey, u think they were boring even in their first 3 albums?

  • nice video! \m/ Morbid Angel \m/ , btw, anyone knows which model is Azagthoth's guitar??

  • haha death was insanely musically talented

  • Mike Browning's vocals are much more menacing than David's. This is the TRUE MORBID ANGEL!

  • you can't tell faggot!

  • Dumbass, Mike did the vocals on their demos and Abominations of Desolation. So of course he can tell and he's right!

  • By the way, was Trey or Mike Browning the main catalyst behind Morbid Angel's beginnings?

  • Trey bitch!

  • Trey was.

  • Its pretty amazing to think the first ever death metal album was only released a year earlier (Possessed - Seven Churches); these guys caught on pretty quick. Possessed weren't even from the Tampa Bay area, so they must have been well connected with the guys from Death. What's also amazing is the structure of this song for its time.

  • Death not musically talented?!! Haha, did you listen to the album Human?!! I don't think so. So buy that album and go listening and find out if Death is musically talented!!!

  • I have this album and it fucking cool. Their earlier shit was not talented.

  • Okay, agree. But when they come up with "Scream bloody Core" it was totally new for that time. Don't get me wrong:if i now listen to that album, its almost boring, but for that time it was unbelieveble!!

So for me "Scream bloody core" is still legendary!!!

  • scream bloody Gore can never been boring.

  • Their early material is talented. What the fuck are you talking about? Plus, Death predated Possessed when they were Mantas back in 1983 when the original Death by Metal tape came out. Making Death the first death metal band. Possessed might've had the first dm album but Death by Metal was released in 1983 (not 1984 like some say) making it the first death metal recording. plus, Possessed were thrash/speed in 84.

  • actually, Master were before Death, and they wouldve released their debut in 1985, had they not had problems with their record company. in reality, Master were probably first, but no one ever gives them credit.

  • well... yah, i mean DeathStrike/Master/Funeral Bitch...Paul Speckman in general was the true birth, everything came weeks/months after him, keep in mind the early Master songs were written in LATE 1983/EARLY 1984 !!!!!

  • Mantas/Death recorded in 1983. So Mantas/Death were the first band.

  • Have you even heard that demo in 83, not even close to death metal

    I doubt you have.

  • Listen Amebixfan I HAVE heard the demo of Mantas from '83 and it does sound like death metal, but wouldn't expect an Amebix fan to know that (Amebix are crust punk).

  • Stupid close minded cunt

  • ha ha, don't get butt hurt.

  • @AgressiveTyrant1 Possessed recorded in the same year...

  • la cago la wuea antigua igual ta wueno.

  • Mike Browning had the best vocals in Morbid Angel's history...fucking satanic, evil and blasphemous hate. FUCKING AWESOME!

  • you are dumb. this is a fucked up live sound recording.

  • Finally... Someone who agrees

  • God damn!! Trey ripps like a motherfucker!!

  • thank you!

  • Who was playing the drums at that time?! Mike Browning?

  • Sterling von Scarborough

  • Nothing beats "old school underground metal"-NOTHING!

  • Great! No other words to say...

  • Morbid Angel and Massacre, two of my all time favorite bands!

  • THANK YOU VERY MUCH...watch my Massacre video of that same memorable day, if you like...

  • thanks for this video =) i love the band so much !

    lets say death metal

  • i fucking luv the old thrash metal of the 80s but this is way more hardcore

  • holy fuck!!! that must have been a shock in 1986!!! damn metallica and slayer must have sounded shit after seeing morbid angel!!!

  • great video dude!

  • Wooow Dude !! This shit is fucking Killer .

  • Haha, that's great how Trey loses his pick early on in the song, and picks right up where he left off. By the way, Browning's vocals are amazing. Their just as dark as Vincents. Very Black Metalish.

  • This is the lineup that recorded Abominations of Desolation. Mike Browning- drums and vocals, Trey Azagthoth- guitar, Richard Brunelle- guitar, John Ortega-bass.

Let me know if you have a soundboard of this show because I have never heard of one. What you might have is a soundboard from an earlier show where Richard Brunelle and Dallas Ward were doing the vocals.

  • Hi,

I posted the Massacre - Chamber of Ages video of that same day in Tampa, Fl.(see my video's...)

I do have a SB recording of that show (and also from Massacre) and even a bootleg-LP , also SB recording...

    contact me if you want...

The sound-quality of your video is great afterall..

Thanks for posting this one...never seen it.

  • A fabulous gig. I yhink I have the soundboard recording of this one. Richard Brunelle was THE man; no one could top his whammy bar / flutter madness.

  • This is probably the lineup that recorded the 'Abominations of Desolation" LP.

  • I'm pretty sure it is.

  • Is that Mike Browning on vox?

  • Yes
